Burned through this thriller in one day! Very dark, told from multi pov- named and unnamed victims, a serial killer’s daughter, his potential next victim.
We follow the story of serial killer Aiden Thomas’ victim, who has been in his possession for 5 years, renamed as Rachel and very nearly beaten into total submission. We meet his 12 yr old daughter Cecilia, and the next lady on his list, restaurant manager Emily (who seems to also have a few screws loose honestly.) There’s not a ton of back story on Aiden, although it shows a few glimmers through a couple of short one page chapters on some earlier victims. There is a confusing amount of time spent discussing Emily’s coworkers/employees of the restaurant, not sure the purpose of this or how it pertained to the overlying story arc.
You know how sometimes you want to yell at a movie screen during a horror movie?( RUN! TURN AROUND! DON’T GO DOWN THE STAIRS!) This book had me yelling in my head to the women involved. I could see this one being adapted easily to screen. Overall I really enjoyed it.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Knopf for the opportunity to check out an early release of this thriller!

Michallon’s thriller debut ‘The Quiet Tenant’ was really eerie and hard to put down. We meet the victim five years into living in a shack until the killers wife passes away and he’s forced to move and kill or take his ‘prisoner’ with him. He chooses to move her into his home and socialize with his daughter.
Hopeful her quick thinking will provide an escape ‘The Quiet Tenant’ has you rooting for ‘Rachel’ the entire time.
Scary psychological thriller written in over three point of views and perspectives ‘the Quiet Tenant’ should be added to your read list of 2023.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for allowing an ARC and providing a thoughtful and honest review.

Wow.
I think that’s the appropriate response to a book like this. I can’t wrap my hand around the fact that this is a debut when it feels like it was written by an author who has been writing books like this for years.
The Quiet Tenant was gripping, heart-racing and so much fun. I was on edge the entire time I was reading this, constantly wondering what was going to come next. It was almost as if I could feel the anxiety and emotions of the characters.
The change of point of view from different characters in each chapter was the highlight for me because I loved reading from their perspectives and seeing how each moment was viewed differently by them all. Each character was so unique but they each were connected by the same man.
This is what you expect to read when you pick up a psychological thriller and I am so happy I was able to receive an ARC for this.
I’m excited to read what comes next from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Knopf for providing me with this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow brilliant debut I-was immediately drawn in to this unique thriller about a serial killer.Loved the different point of views kept me turning the pages reading late into the night.A new author to follow a book I will be highly recommending.

The Quiet Tenant by Clemence Michallon
Phew, I absolutely had a hard time putting this book down. Love how the story is told from multiple points of view. Little slow and predictable at times but on the whole a very very good read! Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for letting me read this and leave my opinion.

Oh my god!! I could not put this book down. I love how the story is told from different points of view and how even at the very end I didn't know how it was going to end. I highly recommend this book. I work in a middle/high school library so I'm not sure that the book is currently appropriate for our students but once we switch to high school only I will definitely put on my to buy list.

The book features 4 main characters, Rachel, Cecillia,, Emily and Aidan.
Rachel, has long been kept by Aidan, locked up, Aidan seems to be a respectable man, but has many secrets.. after his wife dies, he and his daughter Cecillia move and take Rachel with them. Rachel is still kept captive, but although Aidan appears to have killed others, he keeps Rachel as his quiet tenant.
I would have liked this book more if I could have understood their motives. I could not identify with the characters or their way of thinking.
I do thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, I appreciated that the story was told from 3 different perspectives. The book very much reminded me of the case of the 3 girls in Cleveland, OH who were kidnapped and rescued years later. I really enjoyed that the author included Aidan having a daughter and her role in what was going on. Rachel was an incredible protagonist who had great instincts. As I said I really enjoyed the three parallel storylines from the kidnapper, victim and a love interest. Its a great reminder of not really knowing what happens behind closed doors. Thank you to Clemence Michallon, Knopf and Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

3.5 out of 5 stars for me!
I found the beginning to be a bit confusing. I couldn’t keep track of the characters but around 15% in I got a better grasp of everyone.
After 15%, I began to appreciate the point of views.
That being said, The victims narrating the book was a brilliant, instead of it being narrated by the killer himself.
The story was engaging but the characters weren’t very relatable. Granted it’s a thriller but I like to feel like I have connected somehow to the characters.
Overall I would recommend!

Another book that seemed to have so much potential in the plot but then just...didn't live up to it.
The woman (who starts out in the shed) is held captive by a well respected man around town, Aiden Thomas. Who also happens to be a serial killer with a 13 year old daughter!
If there was an explanation as to why he chose to keep "Rachel" alive out of his other victims, I must have missed it.
But she stays ...and obeys...in unbelievable ways.
Then here is the town bartender Emilie who gets infatuated with Aiden basically stalks him obsessively.
The plot lacked mystery and suspence so I read just to find out what comes of these characters.
Recommend if you're looking for something a bit different, somewhat dark, with some crazy characters, at bit of a slow pace.
Thank you, Netgalley, publisher, and author for the ARC.

If you like psychological thrillers with a slant this is your book. Aidan abducted Rachel five years ago and has kept her prisoner in a shed. He has killed several other women over the years. This story is told mainly through Rachel, Cecilia, who is Aidan's daughter, and Emily, Aidan's love interest and probable next victim. We also get tiny vignettes from the women Aidan murdered. The story really takes off when Aidan must move house and he decides to bring Rachel along. A relationship.grows between Rachel and Cecilia. While Emily draws closer to Aidan's secrets. Excellent plot and place along with lyrical language hit this book out of the park. Thank you Knopf publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this.

When I logged onto Goodreads this morning I noticed my Currently Reading now sits at over EIGHTY books . . . .
That is SHAMEFUL! I only read one book at a time . . . I just never review them *sad emojis forever*
The Quiet Tenant is a new take on an abduction story. The narrative is told by three women: Rachel, the captive; Cecilia, the daughter; and Emily, the local bartender while they navigate their respective lives with Aidan. The Stars here all come from this being such a fresh approach. Clèmence Michallon’s version of a serial killer story has all of the vibes Emma Donoghue presented in Room. I could not put this down.

I have very mixed feelings on this read, so I will break it down into two sections!
What I loved:
• The author’s writing style. She knows how to write eerie, suspenseful scenes.
• The characters. I was rooting for the women!
• The multiple POV approach. This always hooks me into thrillers.
What I didn’t love:
• The resolution was not surprising at all. There were no twists. Just a steady build to a predictable climax.
• For being about a serial killer with multiple victims, we didn’t really get a “why” or a super interesting in-depth character study of the man.
Overall, I would love to read more from this author! I think this book will be a home run for many readers! It just wasn’t quite the thriller vibe I was hoping for.

THE QUIET TENANT by Clemence Michallon
This is the most intense, complex, captivating, suspenseful, dark psychological thriller that I have stumbled across in a long time. It was impossible to put down until I finished it. I am not going to say much about the plot other than it is a much, much different take on a serial killer and his victims than I have ever read before. I look forward to reading Ms. Michallon's future works, her debut has been extraordinary. This is a definite 5 star read.

This book hooks you from the very beginning. This story is told from 3 different characters, and their viewpoints over time.
It focuses on 4 main characters:
Rachel-- The woman in the shed/the woman in the house
Aidan-- The kidnapper/Dad/Serial Killer/etc.
Cecilia-- Aidan's daughter
Emily-- The local bartender/woman becoming obsessed with Aidan.
I will say that this story is a slow burn for sure, but if you stick with it the ending is worth it.
This book focuses primarily on Rachel. She was kidnapped 5 years ago by Aidan, a friendly family man and pillar of the community. He has a 13-year old daughter and a wife who just died. Because of his wife's passing he has to move. This forces him to move Rachel into the new house with him and Cecelia. Nobody knows or suspects the type of evil he has inside other than the nine women he has kidnapped/killed.
There are many twists in this book, and the story has a lot of suspense. The book also includes chapters from each of the other women he has taken. I enjoyed the viewpoints and how the story unfolded.
I also loved that the author did such an amazing job writing this book in her non-primary language! That was very impressive to me. If you are a fan of true crime/serial killer stories then this is the book for you. I could not put it down.

Aidan Thomas a serial killer and the kidnapper of Rachel, who for the last five years chained into a garden shed. Why wasn’t someone looking for her? Cecilia was Aidan’s daughter and the innocent person in the novel. Aidan’s was a surprisingly affectionate parent to Cecilla
I do not usually read thrillers; however, I enjoyed this novel very much. Perhaps, I should add this genre to my reading list. The author alternated each chapter through the eyes of each character. I liked the author’s unusual formating, It took a few chapters to become familiar with this presentation of each character.
The author’s words were compelling, hence I found it difficult to put the novel down. The story was interesting and I ended up with an internal argument when it was time to finish a chapter and ended up reading several more. The conclusion was well written and did not make the reader wonder whether or not this was the ending.
I appreciate Clemence Michallon, Alfred A. Knopf, and NetGalley the opportunity to read the Advanced Reader Copy of this book and I’ve written an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. Such a unique perspective from the women in his life. The characters may stay with me a while!

AWESOME debut!!! I almost have no words, but here goes....... I could not put this one down except to go to work! This is a serial killer story that doesn't really focus on the serial killing. Aidan is a great husband, father, and much respected man in his small town. His wife has passed away and he is now a single Dad. Poor guy. He is also a serial killer who has killed numerous women and has kept Rachel in his shed for 5 years. His family is forced to move, so he moves Rachel also. Bad idea on his part. The story is told from Rachel's POV and also his daughter Cecelia and Emily. Emily owns a local restaurant and is starting to fall for this "perfect" guy. All of these lives come crashing together in what is one of the best, most thrilling climactic endings that I have read in a long time. I loved reading how this guy manages his double life until he doesn't. I cannot wait to see what this author writes next!
Thank you to #NetGalley, Clemence Michallon and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
I will post to Amazon, Facebook, Instagram and other retail and social media sites upon publication.

this is a book that will keep you turning the pages, it was hard to put down. He is a father and a member of his community and also a serial killer. really enjoyed this read.

Thank you to the publisher & NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of The Quiet Tenant.
This is story is told from a few different points of view. It' scary to think you don't always really know the people in your life. I like the style of writing and the chapters were nice and short. The story held my attention, but at times I felt I was just reading to see what was going to happen. I was left with some unanswered questions and wished the ending was tied up a little better. Overall I would say The Quiet Tenant is worth the read.
