The writer chose an interesting way of telling a story about young souls whose bravery took on those who had ill intentions for their family and their land. The story was interesting to me. My eyes did perk up to certain parts of the story. The writing did a great job with their research and information of facts.

Overall it was a good sequel. I enjoyed having more of the previous characters as well as the introduction of new ones. It was a good basic story of the fight between good and bad and the individuals caught between it with high stakes and decisions to make. I really like that this installment did not have as much horror as the previous one haha.

Why though why? It happens to me most of time that when I enjoyed first book in the instalment the second one felt flat for me. This was that second book.

After reading the author’s comments, I realized why I enjoyed the second book more than the first. There is not as much horror. I suppose this is great for readers like me and maybe not as exciting for those who loved the first book. I also realized, while reading, another reason I struggled so much. Kearns mixes many of the World’s religion and mythology. The characters are known by many names and it made it hard for me to grasp them. It forces me to really pay attention to how he described them. I faced the same disequilibrium that the characters faced as they struggled to understand what was happening and who they could trust. This second installment begins to answer some of those questions, giving me a sense of balance. And still there will be more to come, I am guessing in at least a third book. I’d encourage you to try this sequel if you liked the first book, but especially if you weren’t sure and still finished reading the first story.
