Thank you to Netgalley, Claudia Martin, and Amber Books Ltd for providing me with a free copy for an honest review!

From gems of nature over modern buildings to ancient ruins this book sparks the spirit of discovery with jaw-dropping photographs. Somehow I was not expecting that many nature shots. The text provided for every picture adds interesting information. In addition, each continent is introduced. However, the information provided there seemed a bit random.

This is a beautiful book for every curious mind that enjoys discovering hidden places.

I grew up in a small tourist town, so the idea of visiting tourist traps has always brought an icky feeling. Hidden Places is, in my opinion, the perfect informational book. It really focuses on sharing the pictures and sites instead of focusing on telling you about the location. The photos are stunning and will have you planning a trip before you even put the book down! The book was divided into different location categories around the world. Each place did include some basic information, but the sole focus was really sharing the beauty of each hidden place through the photographs!

Rather than focusing on just one country, this beautiful collection brings together special places from all around the world. They are places that inspire, encourage mindfulness, prompt awe, and calm the heart. This book celebrates the beauty of the earth and the remarkable variety to be seen. Whatever amazing destinations one is already familiar with, this book will more than likely introduce a reader to more. After perusing this collection, I'm left with a feeling of profound amazement at the earth on which we live.

Another stunning and fascinating book by Amber Books. As always the photographs are amazing and there are short descriptions of what you are looking at. Never boring, just enough to inform. This book highlights incredible architecture created by man and nature - buildings, landscapes, waterfalls, caves, seascapes and waterways arranged by continent. I would love to visit several of these locations now - so a great way to build up a travel bucket list! Think this will make a great Christmas gift for my husband.

The book, Hidden Places by Claudia Martin, is teeming with hidden gems!!! I love to travel and I love travel photography. I was still not fully prepared for how amazing some of the places captured are. I like that it’s broken into sections of continents. I’ve been to many of these countries and had no idea what I missed!!! Do yourself a favor; get this book before you plan your next adventure. You will not be sorry for learning about some of these hidden places and incorporating them into your travels. The photography is stunning. The captions do a great job of succinctly describing the location and what makes it special or unique.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

This coffee table book is full of beautiful color photos from around the world. Taking readers from the Americas, to Europe, to Africa and the Middle East, to Asia, this book features hidden gems that most people miss on the journeys. I had heard of many of the places while others were new to me. A lot of the places seemed chosen at random. I also wish there was more consistency on what deemed something worthy of being chosen. This book featured a geyser in the middle of nowhere Nevada and the entire country of São Tomé and Principe as equally "hidden places." The photographs were absolutely beautiful and this would be a fun book for any traveler to flip through.

This is another great book from Amber Books. It’s filled with photos of astonishingly beautiful places you’ve never heard of. It also features mysterious abandoned places. One in particular that was haunting was an old church half buried in lava.

The book is interesting and would make a great coffee table book or gift. There isn’t one page that isn’t outstanding. Thanks to Amber Books and NetGalley for my copy.

(3.5 Stars) Beautiful photographs of less known places in the world. The book is broken into four sections by continent grouping. Usually I love these type of books always wanting to add to my list of places to visit. The photos include cities, buildings, beaches, nature and World Heritage Sites. There is a little description of the photos but many of the selections seem arbitrary. And some in my mind are not hidden at all. There are many in remote places but I don’t consider Taos, NM hidden nor Little Venice in London. Both are easy to visit. There isn’t much explanation of why something is selected. It is enjoyable to look at but is something I would probably get from a library as opposed to choosing to own. Thank you to NetGalley and Amber Books for a temporary ARC in exchange for a review.

Another beautiful book to drool over from Amber Books! This was such a treat to discover so many stunning places all over the world that are slightly off the beaten track, or little heard of! My jaw dropped many a time as I turned each page to see what was next!

There are hidden places up high, and under the sea, and this book features them in stunning detail via photographs and text that shares more information about them - there are villages, temples, beaches and mountains and many of which I'd never even heard of!

The quality of photography is exceptional and just shows how wonderful nature is when you see these sights that the globe has to offer!

A beautiful photography collection of secret and hidden places around that world full of unique beauty- and the names of their locations! Perfect for setting up a travelling agenda.

Now _this_ has many a full-page photograph I was looking for (compared to some other photography-themed books I read recently)! Love it!

High on photography quality and quantity; a bit low on text + details and compilation logic, but enjoyable nonetheless. It inspired me to add more than a few places to my ongoing "TBV" (to-be-visited) list, that's for sure!

I'm not sure my and Martin's visions quite align on what constitutes a "hidden place," but it's always interesting to see what others come up with, at least, amirite? (Colorado's Garden of the Gods was a surprising inclusion, for example; it looks gorgeous and has long been on my list to see, but never seemed a "hidden place," per se. Maybe having been to Colorado a couple times already, and having friends that live there, I have more exposure to it than I might otherwise.)

The "Africa and the Middle East" section was disproportionately light compared to some of the others--North America in particular--and that was unfortunate. Of all the _hidden places_ one could see, it seems that area could lay claim to a plethora! And, New Zealand didn't seem to make the list at all. #smallweep

Still, a great starter read on off-the-beaten-path places to visit. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This book is stunning and packed so full of beautiful photographs it made me want to grab my passport and go find some of these incredible hidden gems! Such diverse areas from snowy nature to vibrant cities, it really is a rich and interesting book!

In this gorgeous 224-page photography book, travel writer Claudia Martin shares “strange and wonderful places that are little visited and little known.” Each location typically gets a photograph or two with an informative caption, and locations are featured from each continent except Antarctica.

The content feels a bit random, so I would have liked to read more about how these particular locations were chosen. Maps showing where the sites are located would also have been a welcome addition. You could use this book to inspire future travel plans, but not much information is included about each site, just a brief paragraph. If a photograph catches your interest, you can always research that site more yourself. Some of these photographs certainly piqued my curiosity.

At 12 by 9 inches, this attractive hardcover book would make a wonderful gift or be an interesting addition to your coffee table.

Thanks to Amber Books for providing me with an ARC through NetGalley. I volunteered to provide an honest review.

This is an absolutely beautiful book featuring many, many places I never knew existed.
From ever-burning craters, to pink stones, gothic castles to ancient temples and waterfalls that look so perfect you’d think they were CGI.
A fascinating look at what is out there, off the beaten track and away from heavily populated areas.
Each photograph is accompanied by a small text telling you what you’re looking at and giving a short history if needed.
It has certainly added many places to my bucket list and given me a few I’d like to research more about.

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for giving me a chance to read this book and travel far and wide from my armchair.

This is a compendium of high quality photos of beautiful places. The text is minimal, but informative. There is nothing particularly "hidden" about most of the places, although a few are off the beaten track. A nice, if thematically unfocused, book for browsing and daydreaming.

This book is full of beautiful photos of nature and architecture that may not always get the love they deserve.

There were moments where I turned to the next featured location and my mind was blown by how beautiful and/or awe-inspiring it was.

I appreciated that not only did I get to see some new, intriguing places, but I got to learn things too thanks to the facts sprinkled throughout the descriptions.

It was fun to see a few favorites like Lofoten and Svalbard, but also be surprised by new places I'd never heard of before. I've definitely added more places to my travel list!

Hidden Places: From Secret Shores to Sacred Shrines is a beautiful book brimming with amazing places dotted throughout our beautiful world. Many you will want to add to your own bucket list for future travel and others will be for indulging in armchair dreaming. The photography is amazing and some of the places of astounding. The only question is why you didn't know some of them existed. Overall a lovely book that would make a beautiful gift.
