Pregnant Princess in Manhattan by Clare Connelly is a sizzling romance with a surprise baby trope pairing with royal drama. Princess Charlotte Rothsberg has always known what was expected of her and all she wanted was one night of freedom, before her arranged engagement to a Sheikh is announced. Escaping her guards, he meets Rocco in a bar and ends up having an anonymous one night stand with New York billionaire, Rocco. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but the unexpected consequences will change both their lives. Rocco insists the two marry so she must break her arranged marriage with a Sheikh. The pair honeymoon in Italy and all goes well until Charlotte confesses her feelings. Because of things that happened in his past, Rocco wanted nothing to do with love or a relationship. When he finds out that Charlotte is pregnant, he is determined that his child will never experience what he did but developing feelings for Charlotte isn’t part of the plan. Now, Rocco must decide what he wants his future to look like. Neither Charlotte nor Rocco had the best examples when it comes to family and love. They do know what they don’t want, so they will have to find a way to have the family they do want, as they journey on a passionate and emotional path. I highly recommend Pregnant Princess in Manhattan to other readers.

Princess Charlotte's life is planned out for her, from how she spends her time to who she will marry. There is no love between her parents and her. She was basically born just so she can continue the family line.

She excepted her fate and never fights it. Except for one night in Manhattan. She escaped her guards and enjoyed a little bit of freedom until she stumbled on Rocco in the bar. Their connection was instantaneous and they had a one-night stand.

She is determined to never see him again, she is supposed to marry another, but then she finds out she is pregnant.

Rocco was raised by his mother and was never wanted by his father. When he finds out that he will become a father, he is determined to be there for the baby no matter what, so he asks her to marry him. But is very clear from the start, he just wants to be the father, not the husband.

I really like the storyline. Charlotte's life seems perfect, she has all that she could ever want and nothing at the same time. She doesn't have the ability to make a choice about herself, and her self-worth is shattered as a result. Rocco is fiercely independent, doesn't rely on anyone and doesn't really care what anyone thinks. He encourages her to stand up for herself. I really liked that! Even though there is pregnancy and a royal wedding, the road to HEA is not all that straightforward for them.

Charlotte has always known what was expected of her and all she wanted was one night of freedom before that happened. When she meets Rocco the chemistry between them is undeniable, but the unexpected consequences will change both their lives.

Due to his past Rocco wanted nothing to do with love or a relationship. When he finds out that Charlotte is pregnant, he is determined that his child will never experience what he did but developing feelings for Charlotte isn’t part of the plan.

Neither Charlotte nor Rocco have the best examples when it comes to family and know what they don’t want so now they have to find a way to claim what they do want as they take us on a passionate and emotional journey.

2.5 Stars. Princess Charlotte Rothsberg has an anonymous one night stand with New York billionaire, Rocco and ends up pregnant. Rocco insists the two marry so she must break her arranged marriage with a Sheikh. The pair honeymoon in Italy and all goes well until Charlotte confesses her feelings and Rocco can’t return them and must decide what he wants future to look like.

This book really felt like a Harlequin romance, and specifically one from 15+ years ago. There was a lot of really regressive views about virginity and gender norms. At no point in this book did I think Rocco actually cared for Charlotte because there was not anywhere near enough groveling at the end to make up for how poorly he treated her throughout the book. In fact, I spent most of the book just wanting Charlotte to escape both Rocco and her family and find peace on her own. There was also some weird descriptions regarding the Sheikh that Charlotte was supposed to marriage which if he had been just another European prince might have been fine but because he was specified as a Sheikh it came across as racist. I am also getting really concerned about how often birth control fails in Harlequin-land. Overall the book was a quick and easy read but I recommend knowing the tropes present before diving in.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for the digital ARC and Harlequin for the gifted copy.
