This is a needed book and I thought the language was approachable, though I do think the reflections are more appropriate for older teens perhaps new adults. The one thing I would have like to see with the reflections on how to have these reflections in community.

An important and helpful read. I appreciated the blending of information and ideas for processing in this book.

I wish I had read this when I was growing up and exposed to racial abuse. Racial trauma has a lasting effect on kids and people should do more to confront it so that black girls don’t end up internalizing this kind of pain. The book does a good job at demonstrating examples of racism to help people understand what experiencing racial trauma looks like. The wording was simple and easy to understand. My only complaint is that it was much too short, I think it could have expanded and offered intimate details a bit more than it did. This book is really reflective of the times we’re living in.

The Racial Trauma Handbook for Teens by Tamara Hill is a resource I've been looking for as a therapist who works with adolescents for a long while. This book is a useful tool that provides age appropriate psychoeducation to help teens understand how our bodies respond to racial stress, what racism and racial trauma is as well as how to identify signs of being discriminated against. The introduction is written by Dr. Erlanger A. Turner who specializes in working with Black youth and children. Overall, a wonderful tool that every therapist, teacher, and parent should have on their book shelf!

Thank you to the author and publisher for the e-arc copy!
