The art was really enjoyable in this graphic novel, but I found that some elements of the plot were a little heavy handed.

This graphic novel has lovely artwork. The story is easy to follow. I would have loved a bit more back story as to the demons, why they are there, why are they so interested in Elliot, etc. However, I think that these items might be addressed in a future volume, so I am excited to see what happens to Elliot and his friends. I think this is going to be a fun series.
Thank you so very much to Legendary Comics and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.

This was an enjoyable read with a lovely art style and color palette. While it's a pretty standard magic-gone-wrong storyline, it's a satisfying read with a charming cast of characters.

It's always tough being the new kid in the coven.Elliot Green has had a rough year. His dad died, he had to move across the country, and now he’s about to start high school in one of LA’s most prestigious private schools, where his mom has accepted the position of Vice Principal

I normally do not like fantasy graphic novels, but I really enjoyed this one! I will definitely be adding it to our collection. I loved the pacing and the creepiness every once and a while.

Thank you netgalley and Legendary Comics for an opportunity to read The Witches of Silverlake in exchange for an honest review. I loved this graphic novel as it reminded me of The Craft. It was a cute introduction to the characters and their stories. I'm incredibly excited for volume 2.

Like the new kid discovers he's a witch after moving to a new town to start again premise. But just seemed a little too fast passed for me to really believe the true craziness going on in these teens lives. Love the dynamics between everyone in the coven. Their friend group feels so organic and natural.

The Witches of Silverlake Volume One was an interesting read but overall something was missing for me. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters.

I like the found family/friendship of this. You’re immediately pulled into the action and interested, which is great. It’s very dramatic in a way that reminds me of paranormal or supernatural TV dramas in a positive way. Leaves you on a cliff hanger, leaving you hungry and waiting for the next volume.

Elliot is starting his first day at a new high school in a new state, having moved from Ohio to California. His mom got a new job as a vice principal at a prestigious private school in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Aside from the culture shock, Elliot has been having weird visions and dreams of a creepy skeleton-looking figure hunting him. Within hours of arriving at school, he becomes adopted by the self-proclaimed weirdos of the school: five witches looking to complete their coven with him as the sixth. He’s arrived just in time for the most powerful moon in centuries. But all of them get more than they signed up for when a vengeful demon starts coming after Elliot and hurting other classmates and teachers in the process. Elliot must juggle his need for acceptance, his past trauma, his new magical powers, and his romantic feelings, all while fighting off an evil cult and their savage demons.

There are so many things about this story that remind me of the movie The Craft: a new kid moves to Los Angeles, obviously the witches, their innocent spells backfiring... There are some moments when the dialogue is pretty stiff and not quite authentic to today's teenagers, but if we take this as set in the same space as the movie, it works well as an homage to those intellectual outcasts. There is a very diverse cast of characters supporting the cis gay white male lead, and I appreciated that everyone’s sexuality and gender are features of them instead of foci of the story. While Elliot's romantic feelings does take a good amount of the story, it doesn't feel like tokenism or performative for the sake of having an LGBTQ+ story. All that being said, there are some problems with pacing the story and balancing how large this cast is.

This story takes on some difficult high school issues, so would be best suited for that age group.

This was interesting, but not in the best way. It feels very much like a rehash of the movie The Craft. The group of kids is bigger, and there are multiple genders, but this is a retelling of the Craft, with a tad bit of Something is killing the children thrown in. It’s not a bad story, but it jumps, frequently. The ideas are mostly smooth, but the action goes forward, jumps, goes forward, jumps etc. That is annoying. There is not time to develop a feel for the characters of how they feel about the situations taking place around them. Overall, this is a good start, but I will reserve more judgement until the next volume is released. This could either go on to become a great series, or flush itself-down the toilet.

Starts off crazy and ends even crazier. Set in a high school where a group of teens are in their own coven doing "magic". Then that "magic" becomes magic. Murders and accidents happen via demons and no one knows what's going on, besides maybe the demons. Artwork is good, not my favorite type of style, but enjoyed the story.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this graphic novel in exchange for a honest review.

I enjoyed this. It was a fun witchy romp and left me curious as to what was happening and what was to come. Definitely for people who were fans of Buffy or Charmed. My main criticism would be the main plot started too soon and we didn't get any real chance to learn about the characters. Things jump into motion a little too fast for a vol one book. Otherwise, great story, beautiful visuals and I hope it does well.

A really lovely graphic novel! I loved the characters and the diversity of the cast. For my taste the main story started to aprubtly and i wished for a bit more atmospheric day to day scenes. But otherwise: lovely idea & good time reading!

Ehhhh I wanted so much more from this graphic novel. I appreciated the queerness of the characters but I wish it was more explicit in the novel. It wasn't until the character info sheets at the back that I learned about the identities of the chapters. The storyline is very basic and ends without anything being resolved.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this graphic novel in exchange for a honest review.

The art style is so pretty, and the character designs are stellar. However the pacing and transitions are extremely choppy for a graphic novel. To the point it is distracting. It almost makes the reader question what is going on and if they missed a page.

I also felt the story overall was a Charmed or Buffy episode. In many ways I think it would do better almost as a adult graphic novel, the themes are already there and the warnings allude that it could be more.

Overall, it is a good idea and it is going places but the formatting, story elements, character relationships and plot points need some refining. Especially if this series is to continue onward.

It’s a classic tale told for a new generation - friends and the light of their love for each other battle the forces of darkness. If representation matters to you, then the inclusiveness of this group will fill you with hope as they struggle to figure out how to fight together to save one of their own and much more. The art is in turns moody or bright and connects the reader to the larger story. The writing struggles at times but eventually finds its way to a satisfying conclusion.

The Witches of Silverlake is about a group of witches who get in deeper with magic than they ever wanted to. Elliot is new to town and is adopted into a coven of witches. Things start to fall apart when masked figures and demons are after Elliot for an unknown reason, and a member of the coven suddenly ignores them.

This first volume introduces a larger story that will play out in later issues. I really like the illustrations for this one, and it has the makings of a really good story, but it moves too fast and lacks the depth that would make the story pop. Hopefully it will be flushed out in later issues. The cliffhanger was unexpected and leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

When I first started this graphic novel, I felt like I was really going to enjoy it. Seemed like something that was perfect for me. However, it all just felt flat. I didn’t really care for the characters and the dialogue between the characters felt forced and weird. I feel like this could have been something really neat and I’d be interested to see where it goes but I didn’t like the way this was written.

This is an exciting start to a new series. There are a lot of characters to meet and get to know in a short space of time however, I do have some favourites. It’s an exciting story that I am now waiting excitedly for the next installation of.
