Thank you to NetGalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Now this, this is a good twist & turn of a book. In the beginning, I was ready to pull out a piece of paper to keep track of all the different characters being introduced, but the story picked up and I got lost in it. Four friends who met in college descend upon the Chateau decades later at the request of the matriarch. Within the first day there is a murder, lies exposed, an attack and everyone to blame. At some point there's a twist I didn't see coming and couldn't put the book down, I needed to know who was to blame in this tragedy. Now that I've finished, I'm ready to reread to see it all unfold from that perspective - something I never do after finishing a book!

The Chateau
Wow wow wow. This was so amazing. I was spinning round and round to figure out where it was all going to go and truly I had no idea.
I thought the audio was amazing and had different narrators that played the parts so well.
I would highly suggest this one. It’s completely bingeable. The ending leaves you up in the air though - which might be the only thing I disliked and why I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5. The story is a bit longer than needed at parts, in my opinion, but totally worth the ride.

Secrets, secrets, secrets. This book was full of secrets and drama. There are a lot of characters to keep you guessing while reading, but ultimately this book fell flat for me. The plot is a bit unfocused and the ending was a little to soap opera-y for my taste.

This is a great book to read on a vacation or at the beach! Full of intrigue and mystery and that lingering sense that we never truly know who our friends are. I truly enjoyed this book!

I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.

Super creepy and atmospheric. Loved the setting and all the twists and turns.
Thanks to the publisher for the advanced copy!

I thought this book had a unique setting, different from others I’ve read. I enjoyed the multiple POV for the most part but at times felt it was unnecessary. The book was suspenseful but jumped a little all over the place at times. Overlap had fun reading this!

This was such a good book! I loved the different perspectives, and how the story unfolded. Highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review! ❤️

It’s been quite a while since I’ve read a psychological thriller that’s also a little bit locked door and I loved this book. So many plot twists that I didn’t see coming and I didn’t suspect the culprit being who it was either. The French countryside imagery, the food, the people really helped bring this book to life.
The four ladies take a bit to differentiate without looking at the chapter titles but I did get there. It is a rare thing for me to highlight passages while reading but there were so many good ones in this book I just had to. These ladies all have their own unique but relatable stories & feelings – none of their history feels like it couldn’t be someone you know. The background details on Van Gogh were something I wasn’t expecting and I love learning bits & pieces from books.
I was not a fan of the ending chapter – I don’t want to give anything away. It was unexpected & I wasn’t a fan of where things were left. That is really the only thing that I would change about this book.
A big thank you to Atria/Emily Bestler Books for the opportunity to read this book. I burned myself out in thrillers a while ago and this book was an absolutely awesome dip back into the genre. I highly recommend picking this one up. All opinions are my own. Rounded from 4.5 stars.

This was quite the interesting read. It took me a bit to get into it because I didn’t like any of the main characters but there was some great redemption arcs as the story went on!
It’s hard to say much without delving into spoilers but I found the whole wwii era plot line to be sad and fascinating, but mainly sad because I’m sure there are many for whole that story could be based on reality. The current murder plot was well done, it kept me on my toes!
Overall, this was a solid thriller for me!

Friends, enemies, lovers---the relationships in The Chateau by Jaclyn Goldis are unpredictable. The novel follows four best friends who return to visit Serephine, grandmother of Darcy and a wealthy widow with many, many secrets. Over the course of several days friendships are destroyed, relationships are ruined, and the truth is finally revealed. Overall, a fantastic novel!

Really enjoyed this novel. It had many twists which kept the storyline unravelling until the very end. Well written, and easy to read. Lots of intrigue that kept me invested. Definitely will look for the next book by Jaclyn Goldis!
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for this ARC!

I enjoyed this novel of suspense. It was a little slow for me to start, but once I got about 30% in I was pretty well hooked. I enjoyed the dynamics of the female friendships at the heart of the story. The setting was vivid and I imagined myself in the French countryside at a large chateau. The author uses a sense of place well. I will likely forget this one after a little time, but it was an enjoyable read.

Unfortunately I did not love this. The premise feels exciting, and lush but what we got felt tedious and confusing. There were so many points of view and none of them felt distinct in any way. I really wanted to love this but in the end I was left bored and uninspired.

A group of friends get more than they signed up for during a 40th birthday party in beautiful Provence, France. The trip is bittersweet since they know the grandmother of one of the girls and owner of the chateau is dying. The fact is well known that this will be the last time they will all be with her. Shortly after they arrive, events turn drastically and someone is murdered. But who could the culprit be and what have the girls been hiding for all these years?
The premise and cover really had me gravitate towards this novel. Very slow burn, took a long time to get into the pace. I tried but could not connect with the characters at all. Typically I really enjoy having multiple point of views but they all seemed unreliable, similar personalities and hiding more than what’s reached the surface. Many of them felt like the same individual with slightly different characteristics or backgrounds. Now on the other hand, the atmosphere sweeps you right off your feet. I could feel the fresh French countryside air and the suspense creeping up my spine.
I would not characterize this as a thriller but I will say there is PLENTY of drama, secrets and twists to uncover at “The Chateau”. Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Review: The Chateau by Jaclyn Goldis 4.5 ️
A dream girls trip to a luxurious French chateau devolves into a deadly nightmare of secrets and murder.
The Chateau has everything I love in a murder mystery - a fabulous but remote location, multiple POV, lots of reasons for motive, and well executed twists. While it is categorized as a thriller, it’s more a mystery sprinkled with lies and betrayal among a group of friends with lots of history. Everyone had a secret and the way the secrets and backstories tied together to reveal the murderer and motive was perfection.
If you liked THE GUEST LIST or ONE OF THE GIRLS, you’ll love this locked room murder among a group of friends.

It took me a little bit to get into this one but once I did it was a fun ride. Golds does a wonderful job reating a strong atmosphere and pulling the reader into the setting. The characters were interesting and kept me intrigued.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. of this book. This book felt more like a drama than a suspenseful thriller and at times I thought some parts were windy and unnecessary. However, it was twisty and fun and I did not predict the ending.

This was definitely a fast paced murder mystery, but I feel like it was missing something. I was able to finish quickly, but then I had no thoughts in my head as I finished it lol it was probably the locked room trope that let me down because they always do.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC

Intense mystery with fictional Holocaust ties!
Deception and suspicion fill this mystery. Friends are invited to the place where they gathered as young adults, years ago, The Chateau. Darcy is now 42 and her grandmother owns the Chateau and has invited Darcy and her friends for a gathering. I can't say much without spoilers, but I enjoyed reading The Chateau and seeing the mystery unravel. I like how the history of each character intertwines within the story to make intense personal connections. I appreciate how the author tied the history of the Holocaust into the past, present and future. I enjoyed the artistic ties and the interesting information, fact and fiction, about Vincent Van Gogh.
