If I had never read Emma, this would have been a delightful romance story with a main couple that I was rooting for with all their tension.
But I have read Emma. And this made it EVEN BETTER. This is a great adaptation written by two people who clearly love the original book and the original characters and they effortlessly transported our dear Emma Woodhouse from being the belle of Woodbury to the star of 83rd street.
This book was super cute and kind of gave me grown-up Eloise at the Plaza vibes. This book is the perfect chick lit and I definitely will be recommending it! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for sharing this book with me!!!
Emma of 83rd Street was a Jane Austen fan fiction of sorts by Audrey Bellezza and Emily Harding. The coauthorship was good and the writing done well. I personally love Jane Austen fan fiction!
I would call this a miscommunication and friends to lovers trope. It’s a debut novel and hope they write another. Emma and George were adorable and I loved the ending.
Thanks Galley Books via NetGalley.
I have always been a big Jane Austen girlie, and I love retellings. This Emma retelling is fun, modern, and steamy! Thank you Netgalley and Gallery Books for the egalley in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this modern retelling of Emma (for context though, I haven't read the original but I have watched Clueless a dozen times). I thought that the authors did a really good job at framing the issues Emma faced into a modern context. I also enjoyed reading Knightley's point of view and thought the author's did give him more depth of character than what I thought would happen. Nadine was a little on the light side for story telling, but I did like the mix up that happened between Emma and Nadine thinking they liked the same man. Most tellings keep it, but I don't think that it's always necessary to have a real controversy over liking the same man and I'm glad that the authors did side step it.

I completely adored this modern retelling of Emma!!!
The fact that this book was written by two authors is truly mind blowing because of how beautifully seamless the writing is. I had a blast reading this and found myself binging the story because of how sucked in I was.
Friends to lovers is easily one of my favorite tropes and this story truly swept me off my feet. How much I loved this book was surprising to me because I typically am not always a huge fan of classic retellings, but this one truly outdid itself and I loved it.
I loved this modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma! I immediately connected to the MC Emma Woodhouse as she supports her family, best friends - the Knightly brothers, and her new friend Nadine. I’m always a sucker for a dual POV because I like to get both perspectives of the main characters. I listened to the audiobook since Teddy Hamilton, my favorite male narrator, did a great job with George Knightly. Brittany Pressley is the female narrator, and she is one of my favorite female narrators too! Emma of 83rd Street is delightful, and I couldn’t stop listening! I highly recommend adding this one to your TBR shortlist.

A classic romcom, easy enjoyable read! I was initially attracted to this book by the cover and I’m glad I did, it was the perfect summer beach read that I’ve already recommended to several friends!

This book is a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’, and I have to say that I really enjoyed this story despite not being too familiar with Austen’s original work.
Emma and George have been best friends forever. Growing up as neighbors they’ve always had a special bond. Theirs is a slow burn, friends to lovers romance and the tension and chemistry between the characters was off the charts.
This was a thoroughly entertaining and heartwarming read. The book was well done, and these authors have earned themselves a fan. This one is definitely worth your time if you enjoy slow burn and/or friends to lovers romance.
Emma on 93rd Street is a sweet retelling of Emma. I actually think you could read this one without knowing that and still really enjoy it. I love modern retellings, but I was a little nervous, because Jane Austen is a great author and I wasn't sure how I would feel about the modern take. Audrey Ballezza and Emily Harding made it work. I loved the NYC setting and the new take on an old classic.
A huge thank you to Gallery Books for granting me access to this title. I enjoyed buddy reading it with my bookish buddies on Bookstagram!

This was a fun modern retelling of Emma cause Emma was a well to do lady in her time with the connections of her father.. I love all the retellings of Emma, always heart in the right place but not quite hitting the mark.
Loved Knightley. He's a favorite of mine. And this version is also kind of mysterious in his childhood friend turned sexy neighbor role and the realization of not knowing when that happened. Always love when it hits her like a lightning bolt. I wasn't expecting the slow burn to turn into steam but I was here for it. It was definitely well earned and the last bit was hilarious with her sister.
Thank you gallerybooks for the e-ARC for the honest and voluntary review.
I love Jane Austen’s retellings! And this one did not disappoint. It is funny and adorable and so sweet. Definitely don’t skip this one!!
I am always up for a good Jane Austen variation, so I was happy to give this book a try. The authors put a creative and interesting spin on the story and the writing flowed nicely making this a thoroughly entertaining read. In this modern retelling of Emma, the two main characters remained true to form, but in a more modernized, spicy version. The witty and fun banter was on point and I also liked the addition of Knightley's POV. I really became engaged in the story and couldn't put it down! I thought the authors did a nice job of maintaining the authenticity of the characters and keeping with the spirit of the classic, while putting a modern twist on things. It's a most captivating read from beginning to end. I am always on the lookout for authors that create Austen variations, especially modernized ones, and these authors have, without a doubt, been added to that list. Really enjoyed this!

Are you looking for a steamy rom-com where the steam doesn't come into play until the end of the book? Are you looking for a slow-burn friends-to-lovers romance? Are you a fan of Jane Austen retellings? If you are any of these things, I highly recommend giving Emma of 83rd Street by Audrey Bellezza and Emily Harding a read or listen. Unbeknownst to me, this is a retelling of the Jane Austen classic Emma, and I didn't really realize something was going on until I saw the last name Darcy pop up at the very end of the book. Then of course I saw the reviews and found out it was a retelling of a book I have yet to read, but that doesn't make me love it any less.
The pacing was perfect, and even though the steam was STEAMY (for me), I loved that it came near the end, and we didn't hop into instalove. I also really enjoyed almost every single one of the characters, especially our MCs Emma and Knightley. Emma may come from a rich family, but she felt pretty down to earth and the tension/chemistry between these two was palpable throughout the entire book. I actually forgot Emma of 83rd Street was written by 2 authors as well, that's how seamless the story and writing were. Chefs kiss all the way. You can't go wrong with the audiobook, and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone since Brittany Pressley & Teddy Hamilton, 2 of my absolute favorites, completely knocked it out of the park. The end left me hoping these authors will team up again, and they have an instant fan in me!
I have to be honest - I was nervous about this one! I love a good retelling and Jane Austen so I had high expectations; I am delighted to say that Emma of 83rd Street exceeded my expectations. I was immediately drawn into this story set in New York City and fell in love with the characters. This modern-day Emma is clever, chic, and absolutely adorable. I could not stop smiling as I read and the tension between Emma and Knightley is palpable. I literally inhaled this one as I sat on the beach. I can't stop gushing about this book.
This book was described as a retelling of Jane Austen's "Emma." I love Austen and have read all her works, but this retelling did not work for me. Emma in this story was unlikable, spoiled, rich, and self-centered. I disliked all the product name-dropping, most of which I was not familiar with. Knightley also seemed arrogant and egotistical. I felt sorry for Nadine, since she seemed like a perfectly nice person but became a pet project for Emma, who interacted with her in a condescending manner. (After all, there is nothing wrong with those of us who do not wear designer clothes and shoes, live in mansions, and pay other people to do all kinds of things for us.) The females in the book seemed obsessed with seeing guys as "hot."
Readers should be warned that this novel contains explicit sexual scenes, strong language, and drinking/drunkenness portrayed as acceptable behaviors. (I wish I had known this before I read the book.)
I received this book from the publisher and from NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
I loved this book! It was adorable. The setting, the characters, the plot… perfection! If you love the movie Clueless, read this book!
Thank you NetGalley and author for this ARC!
I loved everything about this book, it was cute and fun. The characters made the love story so enticing. I would read this book multiple time! Thanks again! Such a great book! I need a physical copy now!
I really enjoyed this book! It is a modern day retelling of Emma that has the perfect combo of Clueless meets Gossip Girl vibes. It was such a fun quick read that had me rooting for the main characters.
