This is the first book in the series featuring Detective Eve Bennet. Eve finds herself investigating a family who have been brutally murdered. She discovers the bodies of Mr and Mrs Tanner who were murdered in their bed but only finds the body of one of the children. Hannah is missing. She is traced to her uncle’s house but he won’t let Eve interview her as she is traumatised. It soon comes to light that the family had belonged to the a Mormon community. Whilst searching the Tanner home Eve makes a horrific discovery in the attic that reveals dark secrets. Can Eve and her team catch the killer before h strikes again? We learn that Eve had managed to escape from a Morman community after her mother had been forced to join and had very bad memories of that time, but Eve had managed to turn her life around. The book is mainly told from Eve’s point of view and gives an insight into her earlier life. I found this book an interesting and unusual read and look forward to book number two.
Thanks to a Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a new series. And what a ride!! Wow great book. This is a mystery/murder for Detective Sergeant Eve Bennet. It was amazingly sad, and I found the cult aspect disturbing but probably on point. It is a super interesting story, that I would highly recommend. 4.5 stars

Detective Eve Bennet is now one of my favorite female sleuths. Roberts introduces us to Detective Bennet in this book and creates a very intriguing mystery. Bennet and her team are called in to investigate the murders of 4 family members who are a part of a polygamous Mormon community. At the scene, Eve finds a man, his two wives, and his son with their throats slit and no evidence of the perpetrator. The case brings up unwanted memories for Eve, who was once part of this cult. Her abusive step brother is a prominent leader that she must deal with to solve the murder. The twists keep you guessing until the end. I can't wait to see what happens next with Detective Bennet.

This is the beginning of a new series and I cannot wait for more. There is nothing better than a lovable crime fighting team. There are some great characters. There are also some vile characters which makes the story so much better. The cult aspect is so interesting, especially with how Eve is connected to it. The crime kept me guessing and the reveal was so disturbing. I did find it was slow in places and it was a bit repetitive, mainly with descriptions of the team members. The descriptions of proper police procedure also dragged. However, it's a great read and if you love crime or cults then definitely check this one out.

𝑾𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒆𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂 𝒅𝒆𝒃𝒖𝒕!

I’m going to need more from @hollysrobertsauthor immediately. It’s no secret that I feel a debut can make or break. Roberts has nailed it and this is a book that has delivered in every way.

This is a book unlike any I’ve read previously. Roberts has set this in an area where our main protagonist is a bit of an outlaw, also at war with her brother.

This is addictive and completely captivating. I have loved everything about this book and it is one that I have devoured in one sitting.

I have been transported by this book. I’ve definitely felt as though I have been with each of the characters and I can definitely imagine this one on screen.

This moved at the perfect pace and definitely doesn’t disappoint. I have loved everything about this book and definitely need to read more.

Detective Eve Bennet gets a call from her stepbrother about a murdered family in a fundamentalist community. The close-knit polygamous town appears to be hiding something and it's up to Eve and her team to uncover the truth. Eve's stepbrother is determined to make things hard for Eve and the men of the church will do anything to whatever happened to this family a secret.

This was a very good first book to the series. Eve's past was linked to these people but the author didn't give everything away in the first book. I can't wait to read what happens next. I really liked her diverse team!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

I read this book in one sitting, it was so good. The story is based around a community I know nothing about, fundamentalist Mormons. I came away from reading with a slight knowledge of the life they lead. It doesn’t make for easy reading.

I loved the main characters within the team sent to investigate multiple murders. The way they work together, almost as if they are all parts of the same being, was vital in them being able to investigate fully.

I can’t wait to see what the author brings for them next.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

Only Girl Alive by Holly S. Roberts Narrated by Stacia Keogh this is the first book in the Detective Eve Bennet series and what a brilliant start to a new series this was especially as I was hooked from the beginning till the end., The narrator Stacia was excellent.

"As day breaks over the Tanner family home, the house is deadly silent and the door is firmly closed. Upstairs, the whole family lie cold and lifeless in their beds. All with the same look of fear in their unblinking eyes…

Detective Eve Bennet takes a steadying breath as she enters the main bedroom of the Tanners’ modest home in the tight-knit town of Hilldale, Utah. Mrs Tanner’s high-collared nightgown and her long plaited blonde hair are soaked in blood. Next to her, Mr Tanner’s hands are clasped together in a final prayer.

Filled with dread, Eve forces herself towards the children’s rooms. But instead of two children, she only finds one. Where is the youngest daughter, Hannah? And why are there long scratches across the walls?

Eve tracks Hannah down to her uncle’s house nearby. But he won’t let her step foot in the house. Eve knows what it’s like to be held captive by a family member, and fears for Hannah’s safety. What is he terrified Hannah might reveal?

Back at the Tanner home, Eve makes a shocking discovery in the dust covered attic. Mr Tanner was hiding a dark secret from the rest of the community—the kind of secret someone would kill for.

Could another family be in danger? and why?

As Eve runs from the house she stumbles into the path of the one men she spent years trying to forget.

He won’t let her get away this time.

But, can Eve escape the evil that has haunted her whole life? And will she catch the killer before another innocent family is murdered?

This book was so good with great twists and turns throughout. It was a book that I felt I was a part of.

I look forward reading Book to of this brilliant new Detective Eve Bennet series.

There’s always a bit of a thrill starting a new series as you never know if it will produce. I loved the darkness that is present in this book. I like the exploration of religion and the extremes it can be taken. I liked all the characters and the different things they added to the story. I love back story especially back story that is slowly drawn out and missing parts. There were surprises. I await the next in the seried

Deeply immersive into the world of both police work and mormon polygamy culture, Only Girl Alive is a police procedural for the detail oriented reader who desires authenticity in their crime scene investigations. With her team of dedicated investigators on one side, her slimy brother determined to disrupt the investigation on another, and the echoes of her past within the community herself to grapple with, this makes for a complex and dynamic narrative.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for access to this ARC.

It's a good start of a new crime thriller series. it reminded me of another one I loved also set in a similar setting and backstory.
Even if the starting point was similar the main characters and the plots are strong enough to make them different.
This story kept me on the edge and I appreciated Eve and her team. The plot is gripping and full of twists.
I can't wait to read the next story.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I need another police procedural series to follow like I need a hole in the head, but I couldn't resist this book and I will definitely read more in this series! Detective Eve Bennet is an investigator in Utah and a former member of a polygamist sect who is called in to investigate brutal murders in a polygamist community. The mystery is good but what sets this apart is the extremely descriptive and immersive view of this world that is wholly unfamiliar to me.

This started off really well and caught my interest then, it drifted into police investigations and procedures which dragged the book down and made it slow reading. It’s a shame as I had high hopes for this book. I hope the next one is better. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This is the first book in the new Detective Eve Bennet series. It’s rare for me to start a series at book one, but I appreciated it with this one. Eve used to be a part of the Mormon like community where four murders take place, so there is a uniqueness to her leading the team that is investigating the murders. While I haven’t done any research to see how close this community is to the ones that exist in Utah, but I appreciated the complexity of the community. I have read a few detective novels that took place in an Amish community, but never in a polygamist community.

Eve’s brother is still part of the community and joins the rest in trying to disrupt her team’s investigation. There is such an interesting dynamic between Eve and her former community. It really adds a unique angle to this detective series. And it kept me guessing. I find detective novels are rarely fast paced, but this one seemed a little slower than the average pace.

I was able to switch back and forth between the book and the audiobook and Stacia Keogh does a great job narrating this somewhat dark novel. She kept me focused on the plot.

If you are looking for a unique twist on a detective novel, you should check this one out. I can’t wait to see where the series heads next.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for the honest review.

Normally I love a book about a cult/religion, and the people that escape them. But this book was very repetitive with the flash backs and Eves interactions with her stepbrother. And then the description of her team and how they worked together was just annoying.
