I was excited to start this new Detective series, and while I think there is potential here this book wasn’t my favorite. There is a lot of “world-building” and intricate details about lifestyles vastly different from most. I couldn’t get into a rhythm with the writing, and there are lots of description of people and places that felt a bit like info-dumping. I think Eve is an interesting character with a very complicated backstory, so I think there’s lots of potential for future books! Topic is very different from many conventional detective stories, so if you’re looking for something different you may like this one! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.

The title of this book drew me in when looking for a mystery story. I was immediately drawn into this twisted, fascinating and fast-moving tale. I honestly did not want to put this book down. The story contains just the right mix of current events and past events in the life of Detective Eve Bennet. Her case forces her to confront the trauma of an abusive childhood, abandonment and even brain-washing as she fights against the very people who did that to her in order to find the truth about a horrific family murder.

The subject matter involves the Mormon Church and the schism of fundamentalist off-shoots that some readers may either find offensive or difficult to read about but I felt it was handled tactfully and honestly. Eve Bennet was not born into the cult, but brought in by her birth mother then abandoned before finally being rescued by her mother. So much of what we learn about the cult is through her eyes, her memories and her understanding.
If you like mysteries that keep you on the edge of your seat and give you goosebumps, I recommend Only Girl Alive.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and Holly S Roberts for the ARC and the opportunity to read Only Girl Alive.

An excellent start to a new series and an insight into the close knit Mormon communities in Utah and featuring Detective Eve Bennett.. I liked the dynamics with Eve and her team as they investigate the brutal killings of a family. The details and research into the community was excellent but harrowing at the same time. The characters and their descriptions were good, the pace was fast and, overall, the book is well written and one I would recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

I struggled to get into this for the majority of the book and found it all a bit slow but I did like the premise and the setting and it was quite a unique setting for a domestic thriller so that kept my attention. Bit stereotypical but it wad an easy enough read and had some good twists and turns. I'll definitely be looking for the rest of the series when they're released as I'm hoping now that I've been introduced to the characters, I'll be more invested in the next xhapters

I was really looking forward to starting the first book in a new crime detective series but unfortunately I struggled to get into the story from the beginning. While I was trying to get to know the new characters and the investigation, it kept jumping to information around Eve’s past, which I found confusing.

Detective Eve Bennet is called in to solve a murder in a polygamist community of which she used to be a part of. Very interesting to see her views as a police and as a young child Great start to a new series I look forward to the next installment.

It took me a while to get into the rhythm of this book. I wasn't sure I would like it and I found the theme to be repetitive and the characters were a little to heavy on stereo types. I would read a second book just to see where the characters go from here.

This book surprised me. It was a bit slow to start but by the time I was half way through I was invested! Really loved Detective Eve she is a very likable character. Loved the mystery and the storyline. Really I have nothing bad to say it was a great start to a series and I will definitely be looking for the next book!

A story made oh so unique by the setting and situation. I found this book to be so interesting while also being a rollercoaster of twists and turns. The polygamist sect is not something I knew a lot about other than news stories. This book immersed you in the lifestyle from an outsiders perspective but also shedding light on the tight knit bonds of those on the inside and the lengths they will go to to protect their own. This was heart wrenching at times and terrifying at others. So well written with wonderful character development. I highly recommend this one.

Brilliant book. Kept me hooked and I am certainly looking forward to the next one in the series. A little unusual (in a good way) for this genre!

Only Girl Alive by Holly S. Roberts introduces readers to Detective Eve Bennet and her team.

Book synopsis: As day breaks over the Tanner family home, the house is deadly silent, and the door is firmly closed. Upstairs, the whole family lie cold and lifeless in their beds. All with the same look of fear in their unblinking eyes.

Eve and her team (Collin, Ray, and Bina) are on the case and looking for the youngest member of the family, who escaped the tragedy and appears to be missing.

I really liked this book and introduction to Eve and this team. I appreciate a strong female protagonist.

The story gives the reader insight into the fundamentalist dogma. It is quite interesting and disturbing.

I look forward to more books featuring Eve and her team. I liked the author's writing style and the way she developed the characters and the scenes. The story held my interest throughout.

Only Girl Alive is a great start to this series. It is a good read for fans of Lisa Regan and Robert Dugoni.

I would recommend this book and this author.

Wow this book was such an eye opener. I was shocked by the background story of Detective Eve Bennet. I knew those tight knit communities existed, but I could not imagine they way they worked. Kudos to the author for zooming in on this and draw the attention of the rest of the world to this. I understand they can make some of their own rules, but honestly some of their regulations are disgusting.

I admire Eve for having found the strength to break free even though she still struggles with some things that happened in her past. She does not have a lot of family to fall back on, but her team is her rock. They protrect her, support her and love her. Together they battle the people keeping them from doing their job: unmasking a killer.

The community's lips are sealed. Even worse: they try and do everything to hold Eve and her team back. No matter how hard they try though, Eve will find out who is behind all this even if her life is in danger more than once.

A very good start to a new series. I do wonder if Eve's other cases will bring her to her home town again.

In the first part of the book, the author gives us a lot of Eve's history. It was very interesting, but I took my focus a bit away from the case. Maybe it would have been better to alternate a bit of info about Eve with the investigation in order to make it a bit easier to read, but that only my opinion of course. ;)

I was shocked, disgusted and horrified, but I also welcomed the warmth between Even and her team.

Thank you

Thank you so much for being approved by Bookoutre and NetGalley to read and review this book.

Detective Eve Bennett and her investigative team are asked to solve the brutal murder of a family of 4. There are so many twists and turns that will keep you wanting to find out more!!

Eve was a part of the community before escaping, which is lucky for her as she became a cop!! The team helping her are a strong tight knit unit and will fight with her to solve the crime!!!

No spoilers but this is one series that I will look out for in the future!!

Detective Eve Bennet and her team are called to investigate the horrific murders of a man, his child and two wives.
Another child has disappeared from the house, and is tracked down to her Uncle's home, but Eve is prevented from stepping foot in the house to question the child.
The discovery of an attic in the murder house, together with evidence of monstrous torture makes the team's blood run cold.
Haunted by her past life in the cult, Eve has to overcome the deep trauma she suffered in this town and the bitterness that she feels against her mother for bringing her here.

A well written book, and the descriptions of the characters make this quite enjoyable, and I am sure the rest of the books in this series will be as good as this one.
Very engaging, and the police procedures are well explained.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

3.5/5
The first in a new detective series, starring Eve Bennet. Eve grew up (mostly) in a fundamentalist Mormon community. Although she was able to escape before becoming a child bride, her past still haunts her. However, nowadays, she is a detective who investigates crimes within these communities. When four people are murdered in their sleep, Eve starts to investigate. Along the way, she. must deal with now being an outsider in the community.

Fast-paced read! I enjoyed this debut although there were times when it seemed like other books should have been before it - like characters would reference things in a way that felt other books were before this. I am curious to see where it goes from here within this community.

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sadly I really wanted to like this one , but in some places it made it hard for me to even want to continue on reading, it just felt a bit repetitive, which made it less of an enjoyment to read . Maybe someday I'll give it a retry ,down the road .
