Fun mystery with a great cast of elderly characters solving the death of a friend. This was really enjoyable and I will be back for the next mystery with the Charity Shop Detectives.

Really enjoyed this cosy mystery, was easy to read and the story flowed. The ladies were well written and liked the humorous parts of the story too. Looking forward to more from this author.

A really great, cosy mystery! I loved the characters and the plot moved forward at the perfect pace - not too fast that it felt rushed and not too slowly where it felt drawn out. What a thoroughly enjoyable story. A great cast of characters who are very well thought out and who work extremely well together. The author does a fantastic job of describing the lives of these retired ladies and their daily activities leading to them becoming embroiled in a murder in the local area. Nothing too far fetched about anything that they get up to while they investigate this crime and there are plenty of little twists along the way to the satisfying conclusion.

Every now and again I like to take a break from the usual hard-hitting, dark and gritty crime thrillers I usually read and immerse myself into something a little more sedate and The Charity Shop Detective Agency hit the spot perfectly.

I absolutely fell in love with the three main characters in this story - Fiona, Partial Sue and Daisy ... oh and not forgetting Simon Le Bon! Despite being retired, they have the skills and insight needed to assist in bringing the perpetrator to justice. There is a supporting cast of equally excellent characters that all added to and had their place within the story.

The plot is engaging and had some great twists and turns that kept me guessing and on my toes. The pacing was perfect for me and felt right for the story.

Highly recommended to those who enjoy a cozy mystery with believable characters and I can't wait for the next in the series ... sign me up!

I thought this cozy mystery was a good start to a series. I like the 3 main characters a lot. I like that there is a few neighbors who will add some friction as the series continues .

Just as charming and fun as you would hope, if you judged the book by its cover and title. I loved the elderly civilian detectives and will definitely come back for more if this becomes a series (as it is expected to do).

In her retirement, Fiona has left her London life behind and now spends her time managing a charity shop in Southbourne, ably assisted by Partial Sue and Daisy. The Dogs Need Nice Homes shop isn't as stylish as its rival Cats Alliance shop across the street, but it performs an important community service - providing a space for the town's very senior citizens to meet for a weekly coffee morning, ever since the local community centre suspended its bus service. When one of the coffee morning regulars is murdered in her own home - stabbed in the back no less - the three women vow to find out who did it. Drawing upon their own (not insignificant) resources, as well as crumbs of information fed to them by the local police, the Charity Shop Detective Agency is born and sets about tracking down a killer.

This was a really well-written book, with plenty of skilful misdirection to keep me on my toes. I enjoyed it and would have rated it higher if only it had held my attention a little better. For a relatively short book, it took me a while to read. Still, I look forward to catching up with the ladies again in the future.

I liked it a lot. It was cozy and gentle and very similar to Richard osman books. If you like a twee murder mystery set in a beautiful town near the sea then this book is for you. Well done it’s lovely. Thankyou netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fast-paced cosy crime read with the perfect recipe for a series. The characters are funny and lovable and the plot twists come thick and fast.

A fabulous read, very clever and really funny. I laughed out loud a few times, not something I usually do. This is a cosy to remember with great characters, a brilliant setting and a fiendish plot. Loved it!

Now why would someone murder 86 year old Sarah? That's the question Fiona, Sue and Daisy, all volunteers at a charity shop, decide to answer, especially since it appears there will be more murders (and there are). These three mature woman have a nice joshing relationship and nothing gets past them (at least not for long). It's a nicely done cozy with delightful characters (and a dog) in a good setting. To be honest, The Thursday Murder Club is more complex but that doesn't mean that this isn't a fun or rewarding read. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Looking forward to another one!

When charity shop workers Fiona, Daisy and Partial Sue learn of the murder of one of their customers, they decide to form their own detective agency to solve the mysterious death.

As more deaths occur in the neighborhood, the three feisty ladies join forces with the police to try and find hidden clues to determine the identity of the killer.

What follows is a funny, zany, mad-cap adventure of three retirees trying to outsmart a killer and figuring out the why behind the whodunnit.

Boland does a great job of creating characters — some that are truly delightful and some that will rile up the reader. He also builds a fun plot filled with red herrings, misdirections and creativity.

Fans of series like Richard Osman’s “The Thursday Murder Club,” Robert Thorogood’s “The Marlow Murder Club” and Charlaine Harris’s Aurora Teagarden, as well as authors like Agatha Christie, will enjoy “The Charity Shop Detective Agency,” which is due out Dec. 13.

Sadly I did not like this book. I found characters boring and book slow. The synopsis sounded promising but I think the book fell short.

This was blooming marvellous. I absolutely adored it. Complete escapism. Fantastic read for a winters afternoon at home with a cup of tea. I love it when I find a new cosy series and I am obsessed.

I adored this cozy mystery. As far as I’m concerned, this can’t be made into a charming TV series fast enough. Even though I’m still a couple of decades younger than our amateur detective group, they were easy to identify with and I loved their love of British crime procedurals. The stakes are a bit higher than most of the other cozy-genre novels I’ve read, but there is plenty of cake and tea to warm the soul. The characters - main and peripheral - unfold beautifully and I was totally satisfied at the end of the story. I’m keeping this author on my radar because I want to keep reading the adventures of Fiona, Daisy, and Partial Sue.

I liked the writing style of the author from the very first page. The book has also got an interesting plot, unusual, but very likeable set of amateur detectives as well as interesting supporting characters. The plot has some twists and turns, and it keeps you guessing till the end. It was a really amusing read. I can recommend to anyone who likes a good cosy mystery.

A serial killer is stalking the elderly of Southbourne. The only clue left behind is a domino in the hand of each victim = with a name scratched on the back. Eighty=six-year-old Sarah Brown is found dead in her hallway one morning by her deliveryman. She was stabbed in the back. Fiona, Sue, and Daisy volunteers at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can't believe their favourite customer is dead. The ladies vow to bring the killer to justice.

I quite like a good cosy mystery, and this book didn't disappoint. The characters are well developed and likeable. This is an entertaining read with some humour. Fiona. Sue and Daisy, all have the skills required to pursue their theories, but not all their skills are legal. The twists and red herrings will keep you guessing. The pace is steady throughout. I'm looking forward to reading what these three retired ladies get up to next.

The Charity Shop Detective Agency is the first of a brand new delightful cozy mystery series introducing a group of retired female charity shop volunteers/friends as they identify a job which needs to be done...and do it! Peter Boland writes with a refreshing style which is reminiscent of Richard Osman yet entirely his own.

Fiona, Partial Sue and Daisy are quirky in the best way and volunteer at worn but inviting Dogs Need Good Homes, across from posh Cats Alliance where sour Sophie works with Gail. They start a Tuesday morning group to facilitate older people meeting and chatting over tea and cake. When one a mutual beloved octogenarian friend is found murdered, the three women decide to investigate as the feel the need to seek justice for Sarah who is discovered with a curious piece of the puzzle at the scene. Red herrings and dead ends abound and the suspect list grows. Simon le Bon makes appearances, too! The Charity Shop Detective Agency is founded.

My favourite aspect of the book is the colourful cast of main characters, though minor characters are also well written. Sometimes a bit unrealistic (detectives sharing information wouldn't happen) but always witty, it is the perfect read to enjoy with a cup of tea. I can vividly picture both charities as well as the characters.

Cozy Mystery fans will want to queue for copies of this book...it contains all the ingredients you need.

This is an incredibly charming book! It's the kind of book that makes me wish there was a sixth star, so I can give it that rating. Existing right in the literary middle between a hard mystery and a cozy mystery, this work pairs a wonderful trio of elderly women who love mystery stories with a great serial murder story, interesting side characters, and loving send-ups of mystery book tropes. (Their first stakeout still makes me chuckle every time I recall it!) The dry wit, the dialogue and the characterization sparkles on the page. Highly recommended!
