I LOVED this book and will definitely be reading everything that Katie Shepard writes. I love that they take chances after their mother's death and I love a happily ever after.

This is...pleasant? But I was expecting a lot more, especially in terms of mental health rep and the way it was addressed.

Not for me. I did not love the way that a fake addiction was used as a plot device, seemed a bit insensitive.

The entire premise was a little silly - a sober companion for panic attacks? really? - but the bonds formed between Teagan and Darcy were real. The way he had her back when no one else did was dreamy.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I requested the library that I work out purchase this title. I love how it covered the topics of mental health but also had me laughing out loud at multiple times.

First of all I LOVE this cover and really wanted to love the book just as much. This book had a lot of heavy topics - which when tackled well can tell a very compelling story. Unfortunately I did not connect with the characters or the storyline.

Wilderness therapy is a concept I never heard of before but was fascinated in after reading this one! This one was a really unique concept and so entertaining!
Thank you #berkleypub and #NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

Thanks netgalley for my copy of this book.

This one was almost a DNF for me, but I really don’t like doing that. Overall this one was fine and is a great book with awareness about mental health struggles. I didn’t love it though.

2.5 stars.

Thank you so much @BerkleyRomance for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review (Release Date | 25 April 2023)

SYNOPSIS | Teagan is dragged by his sister to a wilderness therapy retreat in Montana and whilst there he has a very close encounter with a bear but is thankfully saved by the groundskeeper (Darcy).

WHAT I LIKED:
- the advocation for wildlife preservation
- the cover

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
- a huge portion of this book is based on the male MC misleading the female MC about why he is at the wellness retreat. There is miscommunication and then there is straight up lying.
- that they even have a romantic relationship when she is supposed to be acting as his sober companion
- that Teagan decides to stop taking his medication (which he very much needs) because it's affecting his sexual activities with Darcy
- the entire conversation around mental health, panic disorders, alcoholism and recovery
- Darcy was extremely annoying and pushy & Teagan gave off massive doormat energy so ultimately I just couldn't root for their relationship

🐻 BOOK REVIEW: Bear With Me Now 🐻

SUMMARY: After a panic attack lands him in the hospital, Teagan’s sister checks them both into a wilderness retreat…for substance abuse. Not particularly interested in taking 12 steps he doesn’t need, Teagan takes a lot of solo hikes, which lands him in the path of both a bear and Darcy Albano, a retreat staffer and nature enthusiast.

This book was interesting…

I liked it! Teagan was a super sensitive hero, which you don’t always see in books/movies. His mental health struggles and past family drama were handled so delicately…which is why it felt EXTRA weird that he allows Darcy to mistakenly believe he’s an alcoholic for almost the entire book. 😬 (I mean, there’s miscommunication trope, and then there’s *miscommunication* trope.)

Regardless, I found this to be a sweet, contemporary story of two people finding one another and deciding to make it work.

You can expect:

🐻 Forced proximity
🐻 Mental health rep/dyslexia rep
🐻 Tough gal/soft boi
🐻 Semi-sweet – thoughtful but with funny parts

First off thank you to NetGalley for the complimentary ebook to read and review.

The book cover and synopsis completely drew me in but unfortunately that’s about where it stops. This book had so much potential but it just fell flat. So much miscommunication and lying between characters that just annoyed me.

Thumbs up for the book cover, thumbs down for the story.

Fun and similar to the experience I imagine I would have if I went on a woodland meditation retreat.

I’ve been seeing so many mixed reviews for this debut, which was part of the reason I held off on reading this book for so long, but I wanted to see where I fell, so I finally decided to both read and listen to the ebook and audiobook formats.

After reading, I can see why the reviews were so mixed on this romcom. The way the mental health storyline was handled, along with the theme of lying and brushing it aside, could really be hurtful to some.

However, I did enjoy the romance side of things, and really loved the great outdoors setting of Montana, the National Parks and the awareness of the impending extinction and care of the animals that roam them.

*many thanks to Netgalley, Berkley, and PRH Audio for the gifted copy for review

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This had so much potential but I did not like the voice of the characters and found that they had little chemistry.

Thanks NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for this arc.

2/5 stars

I had such high hopes for this, but oh man did this not deliver. The miscommunication trope was just too much to handle, and how Teagan was lying about alcoholism bc he was so ashamed of his crippling anxiety?? Everything just got worse from there and this was an absolute struggle to get through. I love the cover tho, that's why it gets 2 stars instead of one lol

I really wanted to like this, but a lot of things bothered me in this book. Mainly, the miscommunication that turns into straight out lying. Teagan is at rehab to support his sister, but he suffers from panic attacks. While at first he corrects Darcy’s assumption that he’s an alcoholic and she straight up doesn’t listen to him at all, eventually he decides it’s better to just go along and pretend instead of tell her what is really going on. Ok. Then she spends all this time bing his sober companion when he didn’t need one. Ok.

I did not like Darcy at all. She was pushy, didn’t listen to others and makes a big point about being vegan, but then orders eggs at a restaurant? What?

There were a couple of sex scenes that made me cringe and didn’t seem loving at all. This book just felt like a huge mess.

When a panic attack lands Teagan in Montana at a wilderness therapy retreat, he meats Darcy.

The more I think about reviewing this book - the more I don’t like it. Like just NO. In the second half of the book, Teagan pays Darcy to quit her job and move into his home in New York as a a sober companion when he isn’t an addict. Like WTF. No.

I struggled to connect with the characters in this book. While it did have a decent romance and plenty of humor, I had a very hard time getting into the story. While I’m sure others will love this book, it just wasn’t for me.

This was a very strange romance. I thought the idea of it would be very fun, but the execution didn’t do it for me. The characters were also very off and I couldn’t connect to a single one of them. Also for being so worried about your sister’s drug problem, I don’t feel like he actually did anything to try and help her?
