Maisie is waiting at the airport for her friend Ruth as they are going to hike the West Coast Trail in Canada. When Ruth fails to turn up Maisie continues on her own.

Maisie meets brother and sister Sera and Ric and they agree to travel together. But soon this adventure of a lifetime turns into a nightmare.

Twenty five years later a body is found near the trail. Is it Sera's body.

I really enjoyed this book, the tension builds throughout to make this a fantastic read by this author.

Wow. Okay I really enjoyed this one and found it difficult to put this one down! I loved the twists and turns, and I finished it in two sittings.

The hiking trip is where several young hikers meet each other and all is not as it seems. We follow the current life of one of the women who has married and has two small children. She believes she has caused one of the men she knew before to go to prison by not coming forward to tell the truth. We don’t know the truth, nor does she until the end. I have not read this author before. I will read more from her.

There are plenty of twists and turns and I genuinely didn't see the big reveal coming, and I usually pride myself on being ahead of the curve! The characters weren't necessarily the most likeable people in some instances, and a lot of Laura's problems could have been solved from the outset if she'd communicated better with her loved ones but I guess then we wouldn't have much of a thriller to read! This is one for those who like a fast paced page turner or a twisty mystery to unravel, or just those who have a secret to keep..

This book has a dual time line of past and present. I really connected with the characters. It is told by both Maisie and Laura. It has a fast pace and an outstanding ending.

I really loved this book, it got you hooked from the first few pages which I love, such an intriguing story and so many twists and turns, it had you thinking one way and then another that you could not leave it down, at the end of each page you just had to read on and on. I love a book like this that had the characters life’s together and unfolding there life’s bit by bit. Would really highly recommend this book for a very interesting read.

The Hiking Trip is a pacy drama, part psychological thriller and part murder mystery. The main character, Laura lives happily with her perfect family and her perfect life. Then, things begin to happen to unnerve her and we are plunged into a historical murder case. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster of a read with many twists and turns. Some details of the story are a bit far fetched but it’s a tense and absorbing read.

My thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I’ve read quite a few books about hiking trips this year as it seems to be the hottest new topic. This one will not disappoint. Told using a dual time line, the story unfolds with some twists and turns. This was an enjoyable story and if you enjoy this genre, I recommend picking this one up. A solid book. Thank you NetGalley and Camelot for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

We follow Maisie as she navigates her travels on a hiking trail in Canada in 1999. She was young, meeting new people and trying new things, giving her a taste of independence and freedom. She met Sera and Rice along the way but what begins as a fun adventure quickly turns deadly. Maisie, who changed her name to Laura, starts a new life as she puts her past behind her but panicked when her past comes back to haunt her.

What a gripping read! I was pulled into the story from the get go and there are plenty of twists to keep me engaged. I love the dual timeline which showed how different Maisie was as a character and how much she has grown.

Highly recommend! Thank you Netgalley and Canelo for the arc.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- Decent cover on this one!

The Hiking Trip by Jenny Blackhurst is a thrilling mystery novel that takes readers on an unforgettable journey. The story revolves around Maisie, a young woman from the UK who embarks on a solo hiking trip of the West Coast Trail in Canada. There she meets Sera and Ric, and what was supposed to be an exciting adventure turns into a nightmare.

The author cleverly weaves two timelines together, twenty-five years apart. The past and present come together when Laura discovers that human remains have been discovered on the trail and are awaiting identification. As she fears her secrets will be exposed, the reader is left wondering just how far Laura will go to keep her secrets hidden.

Overall, this book is brilliantly written page-turner with well-developed characters that keep you guessing until the very end. If you love mystery novels with intricate plots and unexpected twists, then The Hiking Trip should definitely be on your reading list!

This was a good book that kept my attention the entire way through. The twist at the end was definitely surprising. Some parts were a bit unbelievable/out there but the majority of the story was good.

Geez this book leaves you on the edge right up until the end. Could not predict the ending of this book in multiple ways. Such an enjoyable and thrilling read!

The ending of this book is pretty darned awesome. So much so that I don't really want to say an awful lot about the rest of it because I don't to risk spoiling the surprise. Suffice to say that the after effects of a once-in-a-lifetime hiking trip continue to have an impact many years after it's over.

The characters are interesting and the pacing well timed. Even if you think you've got it all sussed, there's a good chance there's a twist or two you won't predict.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC without obligation.
