All The Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham is a great psychological thriller.
It’s been a year since Isabelle Drake’s son, Mason, was taken from his room in the middle of the night. Not only did she lose her son but her husband Ben also. Isabelle has had no real sleep since Mason was taken. She meets a true crime podcaster who tries to help her find her son. She learns the truth about her past and the last few years before Mason was taken. This book is full of secrets, twists, and turns.
Thank you, NetGalley, and Macmillan audio for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow, what a chilling story! As a fellow insomniac, I know what it's like to feel the blur between reality and the hazy world you exist in when you can't sleep, though fortunately I've never known the horrors of losing a child. Willingham did an incredible job weaving complex stories into one cohesive whole, with secretive characters that kept the mystery going until the very end. I kept changing my mind as to who kidnapped Mason, and the ending was so very satisfying. I can't wait to read more by this author!

I was excited to see a brand new book by Stacy Willingham. Audiobooks are my not my first choice to read/listen to. But this one kept me interested from the very first page!! A mother’s worse nightmare happens - her 1 year old son goes missing from his bedroom in the middle of the night. It’s a great who-dunnit!! Twist after twist kept me on my toes. The ending!!! Every time I thought I had it figured out, nope! It’s actually pretty genius!! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this audio in exchange for my honest review.

This is every mother's worst nightmare. Your toddler is kidnapped during the night while you are sleeping. When it happens to Isabelle, she cannot move forward, even a year later. Her husband leaves her, the case goes cold, her friends drift away, and Isabelle still can't move on. Mason's disappearance throws her life into a totally different direction, her whole reason for living revolves around finding her son and finding out what happened to him. This is a difficult read because from the beginning, it definitely looks like the danger comes from within. As the reader goes on this journey with Isabelle and past events are revealed, you can't help but hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Jan 2023 Pub Date

This one’s really 2 stories twisted and entwined into one. Stacy Willingham has crafted a descriptive, well written psychological thriller that bounces between ‘Then’ and ‘Now’ dropping tidbits of information that eventually all come together and untangle the story.
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook version. The narration by Karissa Vacker was clear, well paced and easily followed.
Thank You Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to enjoy the audiobook version of this this ARC.

All the stars for Stacy Willingham’s sophomore novel, All the Dangerous Things. I was a huge fan of A Flicker In the Dark so I was thrilled to get the opportunity to receive an advanced audiobook of it. This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I found myself listening at every opportunity. The narrator was great, the storyline was gripping and while I was dying to see how it would end, I hated for it to be over.

Highly recommend adding this one to your TBR. Thanks so much NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my copy.

This was an OK domestic thriller. The pacing was off for me - I thought the beginning (and by beginning I mean the first 70% of the book) was incredibly slow. Things picked up at the end, giving a satisfying, if somewhat predictable, ending. Thank you for the chance to listen to this book - I enjoyed the first book by this author and was excited to get a copy, it just didn't stand out from the many similar type books on the market. That said, I would listen to another book by this author. The narrator was very good. 3.5 stars

I finished listening to an audiobook via @librofm and @macmillan.audio for All the Dangerous Things written by @stacyvwillingham which will be published on 1/10/23 by @minotaur_books and it was great! Nicely done. The story of sleepwalking and a mother's love for her child. This story was also of someone who's very good at manipulating another person. The reveal was good. I couldn't guess what had happened.

The story followed Isabelle. Her toddler son Mason was taken a year ago while Isabelle and her husband slept. Now, a year later and Isabelle still couldn't sleep. She felt guilty for not knowing and preventing what had happened to her son. As a mother, she believed she should have felt something bad was going to happen. She and her husband are also separated. She just gave a keynote speech a day before the 1 year anniversary of his disappearance to remind everyone that her son's still hasn't been found. This story is told in a timeline, past and present. In the past was of Isabelle and her younger sister Margaret. Her younger sister was afraid by Isabelle's sleepwalking. In the present, Isabelle was still dealing with her missing son and unable to move on while her ex-husband started dating someone else. The police couldn't figure out what had happened. Isabelle believed that the police blamed her for killing her son but that they don't have any proof. Her past with her sister still haunted Isabelle and she finally went back home to confront her parents about it. In the present, she continued to investigate about what happened the night her son disappeared because she couldn't stand thinking if she did it as insinuated by the police. This is my first audiobook from the author but it won't be my last!

I don’t think words can adequately express how much I loved this book.

A missing child propels a couple to separation. doing everything she can in her power to find her son, Isabelle meets a podcaster along the way that wants to help her. As her sleepwalking past resurfaces, questions swirl her mind and Isabels past makes her fear her present reality.

I could not stop listening to this book! I needed to know what happened next. It was a slow unraveling of new suspects and clues along the way that truly made me guessing around every corner.

LOVED!!

Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audi for the opportunity to listen to this book!

ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS has everything you want in a good mystery/thriller. There’s an unreliable narrator suffering from crippling insomnia, a crime podcast, a missing child, creepy neighbors, a suspicious ex-husband, mistresses, a drowning, a supposed suicide, estranged parents, a grizzled detective, lots of red herrings and all the other hallmarks of a good, twisty book.

The story is told in two timelines: In the present, Isabelle is searching for answers in the disappearance of her 18 month-old son, Mason. She’s unable to sleep and obsessed with finding out who took him from his crib in the middle of the night one year ago. After presenting at a true crime convention, Isabelle meets Waylon, a podcaster who offers to help her solve the mystery. But can he be trusted? Can ANYONE be trusted when Isabelle doesn’t even trust herself?

In the other timeline, Isabelle is a young girl, living in a sprawling Beaufort, North Carolina home with her congressman father and her artist mother, who seems to be haunted by something Isabelle and her little sister, Margaret, cannot see.

There are curious mysteries in both timelines, and Stacy Willingham does a masterful job of unspooling the secrets slowly as the story progresses. She writes beautifully with rich, descriptive language that sucks you right into the story.

Besides being a well-written mystery/thriller, ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS gives the reader a lot to reflect upon. Specifically, the way stories and memories become our realities and how we rarely see the whole picture before forming opinions on how things happened in our lives.

I read Willingham’s first novel, A Flicker in the Dark, earlier this year, and I liked ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS much more. I can’t put my finger on what makes this work better for me, but I think it is the believability of the characters and the well told story with twists that come naturally and don’t seem contrived.

Narrator Karissa Vacker does a skilled job reading this story. Her voice is soothing and she’s able to change her voice to match the age and personality of each character she presents.

Thank you sincerely to Macmillan Audio, NetGalley, the author and the narrator for a gifted audio copy of ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS, and the opportunity to give my honest feedback.

Thank you to the author, narrator, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free e-audio book in exchange for my review.

Unfortunately, this wasn't the book for me. This wasn't a title that I requested on my own, but offered by the publisher as I had reviewed a similar book, and they thought I would enjoy this one too. I did not. There was really nothing redeeming for me in this book, just a lot of the same sort of tired story that seems so popular now.
I'm sure my reaction is an outlier, if you like this sort of book or author, please give it a try. But I couldn't connect with the characters, didn't enjoy the plot and - was there a mystery? I didn't find one. Maybe that's the mystery.

1 star for 'did not like it'.

Pros: I enjoyed the author’s debut novel last year and was interested to read her next book. Where I was disappointed that I figured out a major plot point of her first book, this book kept me guessing until the end. The use of an unreliable narrator kept the plot moving. I read this book on audiobook in one day and enjoyed the listening/reading experience.

Cons: The biggest con for this book is that there are just so many books in the mystery/thriller/suspense genre that none stand out unless they do something incredibly unique or special. 3 stars = I liked it!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book.

I absolutely loved this book! I was so excited to have the chance to read this book early since I loved A Flicker in the Dark! This book was just as fantastic! This book is dark, twisty, unpredictable and impossible to put down. Stacy Willingham is an incredible writer and is absolutely an auto-buy author! I cannot recommend this book enough! ❤️

Stacy has done it again. I can already tell this will be another fan fave.

The story kept my attention from the start. I needed answers, especially with the subplot. I felt no matter what storyline I was following, I knew I was missing something and even though I guessed A (ONE) twist, my instincts told me there was more and I was wrong. Not an over the top twist/ ending, but one you’ll see fit.

The MC was well written and her emotions seemed to radiate off the pages. At time I was angry when she was calm and that’s what kept me intrigued. I love that!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Macmillan audio!

I read Willingham's debut A Flicker in the Dark last year and I loved it! I loved this as much as her other book, and actually, I loved it more! This one was so good! I look forward to reading more from this amazing author. The narrator for this audiobook is Karissa Vacker. I love this narrator so much, and I thought the audiobook was done soooo well! Vacker truly makes the story story
come alive. This had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't stop listening!

Thank you so much @macmillan.audio for this gifted ALC! I definitely recommend this audiobook!!

Thoughts: This book is about a mother whose son was taken from his nursery one night and vanished without a trace. It picks up at the "one year missing" mark, and we also go back and forth between past and present with our main character Isabella. As a mother to a little boy, this story was HARD to read. I cannot imagine the pain she felt. I felt her frustration for not having answers for so long, and how she was desperate to keep his story alive so the case would not grow cold. Whether you're a parent or not, Isabelle's pain was so raw, so real, you will feel it through the pages. I loved this book from the very beginning to the very end. I read it fast because it was impossible to put down. The writing was absolutely beautiful and captivating and the story drew me in and never let go.

Best thriller I’ve read in a while!! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a gifted audio copy. I devoured this title in a few days and was hooked from the beginning. I loved the main character, themes of motherhood / mom guilt, the southern setting, and the wonderful job by the narrator. I truly did not know what to expect and was left shocked at many moments. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Great book. Twist and turns and creep factor.
A rollercoaster of a thrill. Fear terror and sadness give you all the feels.
As this is an audio book I will note the narrator was great. Good speed, timbre and inflection.
This is a great audio book to read for crime lovers alike.

I don’t reach for psychological thrillers, as a rule. Even less if it involved missing/endangered children and the “is the mother nutty or misunderstood” trope. However, I enjoyed Willingham’s debut, A FLICKER IN THE DARK, and when MacMillan Audio offered me an Advanced Listening Copy (ALC) of her second novel, I took it!

Isabel Drake hasn’t slept since her baby disappeared from his crib one year ago. Despite her sleep deprivation, obsession with the case, and suspicion of EVERYONE around her, she continues to function. Hearing the entire story from her point of view was equally intriguing and exhausting. The audiobook performance by Karissa Vacker does a great job delivering a “is she an unreliable narrator?” vibe, and I could not stop listening.

A couple of things flagged my “any good CSI wouldn’t let that fly” instincts, but you know my rule*: If you’re reading a good thriller, you need to lock down your suspension of disbelief button and just enjoy the ride.

ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS was a great thriller. It was well-plotted and paced, with characters I cared about and an excellent audiobook performance. Look for it on 10 Jan 2023.

*(I call this the Gorilla Glue Rule if you’ve read NO ONE WILL MISS HER.)

Thanks, Stacy Willingham, NetGalley, and MacMillan Audio, for the ALC.
