A great read that kept me hooked. It was to me a slow burn, but that was ok, didn’t bother me. I’m enjoying this author and can’t wait to read more of her work.

This is the second book featuring the podcaster Rachel Krall, and as I’ve read The Night Swim and liked it, I’ve decided to listen to this audiobook. As the first book there are plenty of twists and turns that kept me on my toes, trying to figure out who was involved and with whom. And the author masterfully pulls it all together with a satisfying ending that wraps up well. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

The narrative is not just engaging, it's filled with suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The author's writing style, coupled with meticulous attention to detail, contributed to a compelling and realistic storyline. This well-structured work features numerous twists and turns that kept me thoroughly captivated, as I eagerly anticipated the unfolding events.
The plot centers on Bailey, who is on the verge of being released from prison. Following her visit to Bailey, Maddison goes missing, raising the question of whether he is involved in her disappearance. The ensemble of characters in this narrative is not just commendable; they are deeply connected, demonstrating strong support for one another, enriching the reading experience.
The progression of the plot is not just notable, it's thrilling, further enhancing the overall quality of the story. This fast-paced book is difficult to set aside and is one that deserves attention. I highly recommend this mystery, as I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary copy of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This one was… fine. I wanted to love it — the setup had everything I usually go for: a true crime podcast angle, a missing influencer, a maybe-wrongfully accused suspect — but somehow it just never fully clicked for me.

The pacing was solid and there were moments of real tension, especially in the second half, but the story felt a bit too familiar. I liked Rachel as a returning character, and her persistence definitely carried the plot at times, but I didn’t feel particularly invested in anyone else. The twists were decent but didn’t wow me, and the resolution felt a little too clean after all the buildup.

That said, it’s a quick read and fans of The Night Swim will probably enjoy returning to this world. Just temper your expectations if you’re hoping for something totally fresh.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Megan Goldin for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Dark Corners by Megan Goldin is available now.

I have no idea why I waited so long to read this book. It was FANTASTIC. Rachel Krall and her podcast are back, this time called to Florida to meet with a soon to be released prisoner. Rachel ends up working with the FBI in a race against the clock to locate a missing girl.

I did not realize this, but this book is about influencer culture and it was so on the nose. 😂 The competition, cut throat atmosphere, and smoke and mirrors made for a fun background to the mystery.

Short chapters and excellent pacing made this a winner! I loved it. Thanks so much to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the arc!

The presumed murderer Terence Bailey is about to be released from prison. Shortly before his approaching release date, he is visited by Maddison Logan, a beautiful young influencer with a huge following on social media. Maddison goes missing mere hours later. The FBI reluctantly requests the true crime podcaster Rachel Krall when they review the tapes of Terence’s meeting with Maddison and realize he asked her to contact Rachel. Despite the danger she will be putting herself in, Rachel can’t turn her back on Maddison and she agrees to get involved. This involves attending BuzzCon, a conference for social media influencers, and getting a glimpse into their messy world. There are many questions that need to be answered: who is Maddison really, how did she know Terence, is he involved in her disappearance, and where is she?

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Night Swim, and I am pleased to report that I loved this one too! While the first installment was a bit heavier and more commentary-focused, this one was still dark and thoughtful, while also feeling a bit more fun and adventurous. I liked the numerous twists and turns and was thoroughly entertained throughout the novel. I appreciated that there were many different subplots and so many questions to answer. I also liked the romance subplot and hope Rachel’s romantic interest will be in future installments—which I really hope we are getting and am very eager to read! This one did feel a bit less podcast-focused and while this didn’t take away from my reading experience, I certainly wouldn’t mind there being more transcripts in future books.

Overall, this was a really solid mystery/thriller that I would highly recommend!

I really loved the first Rachel Krall book, The Night Swim, so I was very excited to see that her story was continuing with another case! I did not know what direction this mystery was going to take, so it kept my interest right until the end. Lots of intertwining storylines!

I really enjoyed The Night Swim, so when I heard there was a sequel, I was excited to dive back into Rachel’s world. Unfortunately, Dark Corners didn’t quite live up to the first book for me. While it had all the right components—mystery, tension, and the true crime podcast angle—it just didn’t feel as tight or compelling.

The podcast segments were definitely the highlight, and I imagine this story might actually shine more as an audiobook. As for the ending, it fell a bit flat and lacked the punch I was hoping for. I’m not sure if there’s going to be another installment in the series, but if there is, I’m undecided about whether I’ll continue.

this is seriously the best thriller I've read in a minute! thrillers these days are trying too hard to be different and end up being totally off the rails ridiculous. this was a classic murder mystery done right. my favorite Goldin book for sure.

I enjoyed reading this suspenseful story. I enjoyed this author writing style as well as their attention to details that made the story feel real. It is a well written story where the twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. This is a story about Bailey and how he is about to be released from prison. Maddison has come up missing after she visits Bailey. Does he have something to do with it? I enjoyed all the characters in this story and how supportive they were of each other. They made the story easy to read and entertaining as well. There is great growth of the plot throughout which just added to the story. This is a fast paced, hard to put down story that you don't want to miss. I really enjoyed reading this mystery. I highly recommend this book.

Really thought this was a cool concept and I enjoyed the mystery and twists. I thought I had it figured out and I was slightly off which was a nice surprise. Pacing was a little slower than I would’ve liked, but overall a great time

This mystery thriller had me hooked from the start, especially with the unique angle of a true crime podcaster trying to uncover the truth behind a missing social media influencer. I really liked the podcasting subplot—it added a creative and modern twist to the story, but it is becoming a more common element to the mystery novels that I'm reading. The mystery surrounding the serial killer and their eerie connection to the missing woman was both chilling and compelling. I was drawn into the investigation and would definitely read another book by this author, but I'm not sure that this book will be super memorable for me.

This was a pretty decent mystery. I thought the pacing was good and writing engaging. I have not read the first book in this series yet so I can't really tell if I like the main character - Rachel. She was just kind of "meh" for me.
Overall I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the first book.

Thank you St. Martin's press and the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A gripping, twisty thriller about true crime podcasts, obsession, and hidden dangers. Smart, fast-paced, and packed with suspense. Total binge-read energy.

Dark Corners is an intricately crafted thriller that will take you on a ride of suspense and have you grasping at pieces of the chilling puzzle. Goldin expertly weaves a narrative where the tension spirals with each passing chapter, leaving you constantly questioning who to believe and what secrets lie hidden in the shadows. Beyond the gripping mystery, the unexpected thread of romance adds a layer of intrigue. The podcast format is *chef’s kiss* and I cannot wait for more of Rachel Krall.

Dark Corners by Megan Goldin is the second novel in a series featuring her true crime podcaster, Rachel Krall. I like these books for the story and how she tries to focus more on the victims than the normal star, the serial killer. Megan keeps pumping them out and I’ll keep reading them.

After Maddison, a hot social media star, visits Terence Bailey, a suspect in six murders on the verge of release from prison, she disappears into thin air. Rachel Krall, a true crime podcaster decides to investigate and visits Terence herself to see if he is involved, and ends up putting herself in danger.

This was an enjoyable read. It was suspenseful and engrossing., and I love the look inside of social media influencers and true crime podcasters. I recommend it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one! The short chapters and fast pacing made it easy to fly through. Didn’t love the romance aspect - kinda felt like it was thrown in there just for the heck of it. But overall still a fun thriller!

This book had me hooked from the first few pages. Megan Goldin has a real talent for building suspense without overcomplicating the plot. I loved how she wove in themes around social media, identity, and trust—it felt current but not gimmicky. The pacing was just right, with enough twists to keep me guessing without feeling overwhelming. It’s one of those thrillers that you think about even after you’ve finished, especially the questions it raises about how much of ourselves we show to the world. A solid, gripping read.
