I loved The Night Swim featuring podcaster Rachel Krall. This is the second book with the same main character. The FBI contacts Rachel Krall to talk to Terrence Bailey who is in prison and about to be released. She has no idea who he is or how she might help their investigation. After she speaks to Terrence the FBI want her to fly back home. She can't help but to become invested in the case and she stays in Florida to track down information. There are excerpts of her podcast throughout the book.
I love a novel involving a podcast. This one is done very well. It kept me guessing until the very end. I would highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading the next thriller by Megan Goldin. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher St. Martins Press for a copy of this book for review.

A podcaster/investigator hooks up with the FBI to investigate missing person cases and a possible serial killer. In the midst of the mystery is a look into the world of social media influencers. That particular aspect dragged down the story for me, but overall this was a decent read that kept my interest. I was happy with the resolution and a little romance thrown in at the very end didn’t hurt either.

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

I loved Dark Corners! I was a huge fan of The Night Swim and of Rachel Krall’s character. Dark Corners did not disappoint and Rachel’s story continued to get better. The story was fresh and gave Rachel’s character another layer. I sincerely hope there will be more Rachel Krall books because I will read them all!

Megan Goldin became an auto-buy author for me in 2022. I loved Night Swim so I was excited for more Rachel Krall.

First of all, I want to be Rachel when I grow up. She's whip smart and observant, a great podcaster and an even better researcher. I loved getting more of her investigative skills and this time we got the added bonus of a sexy FBI Agent too.

The organization of this book was slightly disjointed -- it took awhile for me to get into the groove of the narrative but overall it was a complex, layered exploration of a series of disappearances and crimes in Daytona Beach and another great crime novel.

True crime podcaster Rachel Krall is summoned to a maximum security prison in Florida by the FBI. Despite being given no information, she decides to make the flight from Philadelphia to Florida because her curiosity is piqued. Her Guilty or Not Guilty podcast is very popular and she is always looking for new angles to follow. She finds she had randomly been mentioned by an inmate being investigated for a series of crimes. The FBI arranges a visit in prison to see if Rachel can somehow help their case. After the inmate visit, she is dismissed by the FBI and instructed to fly home. However, Rachel's investigative curiosity kicks in and she decides to stay and dig into the case independently. Following a lead, Rachel plunges herself into the world of social media influencers but quickly determines that she may have gotten in too deep. Soon, Rachel is entwined in a dangerous cat and mouse chase that she had not anticipated. This thriller captures the reader's interest on page 1 and holds them in a death grip until the final page. The forays into the worlds of true crime and social media influencers combined with a multi- layered storyline, provide a twisty and intriguing read. Dark Corners is even better than the first in the series (The Night Swim) and could easily be read as a stand-alone.

Megan Goldwin's books just keep getting better and better! This is my 5th by her and it's definitely tied with Stay Awake as my favorite of hers.

Her newest follows podcaster Rachel Krall as she investigates abductions and murders of young women in Florida. Tbe police's main suspect, though, is a prisoner serving time for armed robbery. Rachel finds herself getting sucked into the case more and more, soon finding herself in danger and fighting for her life.

This was a gripping page turner and I loved the multiple POVs. I suspected some aspects of the ending but not all, which made for some fun twists at the end! I also liked Rachel as a character better in this 2nd book about her. And you definitely don't have to read the first to read this one. The author used first names a lot in the dialogue, which irked me a bit - but it didnt detract from the suspense!

I highly recommend this for thriller lovers! Thanks to the publisher author and NetGalley for the ARC!

I really enjoyed the suspense and mystery in this book. However I found parts of it unbelievable and frankly, a little annoying. Maybe I live under a rock, but I didn’t realize podcasters were household names. Now, I listen to podcasts. I definitely am a huge fan of 3 or 4 and I I know the podcasters names. HOWEVER, I do not know the names of any podcasters who I haven’t listened to. Maybe I’m crazy, but it seemed like everyone and their brother knew who “Rachel Krall” was. They treated her like a celebrity that the entire world knew and acted like the she was the most famous person. I thought this was soooo unbelievable! Rachel got on my nerves SO many times during this book. She wouldn’t listen to authorities, poked her nose in top secret FBI business, and truly compromised the search for the missing person. This made me so angry! It seemed like she was only interested in getting “content” for her podcast and not actually finding the victim or the abducter. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I couldn’t look past her entitled attitude. Also, the way the author talked about social media and influencers was a little cheesy and cringy.

That being said, this book was SO thrilling! I loved the plot and the mystery was ending and well thought out. I just had issues with the main character.

Oh, another thing that drove me crazy was that the chapters were different perspectives and times, but weren’t labeled. So confusing!

I love everything and anything Megan Goldin and this was right on par with her stuff. So suspenseful and left me guessing until the very end. Such a joy to read

I am SO excited to have received this ARC! I can go into a whole descriptive info about this book. But I think it is more fun going in blind with this one. Just know our girl Rachel is back and she means business. She is pulled by the FBI to help figure out an unusual case. A case involving a missing influencer, an inmate, a string of murders, and a whole lot of influencers.

What I loved:
- the pacing on this one had me hooked! I could not put it down. I devoured it with in a day.
- Multiple POVs make this one interesting.
- A dash of romance is always fun 😏
- The twists! The turns! The murder and who did what keeps you on your toes
- So much more but I don’t want to giveaway too much!

Ah, man I seriously LOVE this author. Her books have been some of my favorite reads of last year. This sequel to Night Swim did not disappoint. I think I liked this one a little bit more too! I am hoping we have more in this series in the future. Megan Goldin is officially an auto buy author for me! 4.25 stars out of 5! Thank you Netgally for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Night Swim was my first Megan Goldin book. I LOVED it (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) so I was thrilled to get a widget of Dark Corners! While it was a very enjoyable book, I didn’t like it as much as Night Swim. Thank you to Megan Goldin, NetGalley, and the publisher for the ARC.

Thanks to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for this ARC- I may have squealed a bit when I found this approval in my inbox!

I’m a big fan of Megan Goldin and I think she knocked it out of the part with her second installment of the Rachel Krall series. You don’t have to read the first book, The Night Swim, but you should because it was good and provides some context.

I went back and forth rating this between 4 and 5 stars, so I’ll rate it a solid 4.5 stars! It was a slower start for me, but once I got 1/4 way through I was hooked. I thought the story was so carefully laid out and it all came together so perfectly. I found myself holding my breath for Rachel at the end. I also loved Joe and Rachel and hope she continues that storyline in coming books.

Overall, a great thriller with a great story and great characters! Thank you again for the ARC!

Let me start by saying I LOVED The Night Swim and was excited to get the second book "Dark Corners" featuring Rachel Krall. After having read the second book however, I feel as if I know the main character less than I did before. She appears to be a completely different person in this book, I do not recall her being rude and stubborn in The Night Swim. She did warm a bit toward the end but by that point it was too late.

I didn't care for the thrown in "romance", if you can even call it that with Detective Joe Martinez, nor did I care for the social media "influencer" aspect which this book spends a lot of time on.

I'm hoping the next book gets back to the character that I met in The Night Swim and perhaps covers a new case and a new podcast. I am not giving up on Rachel yet. Although I am very conflicted with this book, I would definitely read more in the future from this series.

A huge thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.

Thank you for the opportunity to preview Dark Corners
This is a fast paced novel that was compelling, relevant and scary (in a good way)
Rachel is a crime podcaster - she’s famous and she’s god at her job
She is called to a Florida prison to speak to a dangerous man who has Rachel on his radar. A up and coming influencer has met with this prisoner and the feds know something is up. This man is about to be released and they believe he is a serial killer.
The feds think Rachel can give them an idea of where victims might be or what his next move is
Rachel is thrown into a case with an interesting cast of characters including influencers , cops, and bad guys
Very good Another hit for Goldin!

Wow! Rachel Krall, the true crime podcaster, is called in by the FBI to answer questions. They want to keep Terrance Bailey behind bars.....he is the suspect of multiple killings. They only need the definitive proof.

Rachel enters the world of insta-influencers as she navigates Daytona Beach and the secrets it hides.

The story was engaging and had some great unseen twists. Highly recommend for those who enjoy thrillers.

Dark Corners by Megan Goldin

When did Rachel get so defensively rude? She seems to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed in Dark Corners. Maddison Logan, a very popular social media influencer has gone missing and the FBI has run out of leads. That's when they fly Rachel in to speak to a suspected serial killer, prisoner Terence Bailey, who was visited by Maddison right before she disappeared.

Rachel seems to knock heads with everyone for much of the book and she and FBI agent Joe Martinez can't seem to agree on anything. In fact, just about anything Joe suggests will set her off. Nobody tells Rachel what to do or not do. With Terence getting out of prison in two days, while making obvious threats on Rachel's life, Joe wants her gone almost as soon as she arrives. But no, Rachel's not going home, instead she is all over this case.

Rachel easily infiltrates BuzzCon, a popular influencer conference, despite the attendees being the most elite of the social media elite snobs. Not only does being a social media influencer appear to be a sure way to an ulcer and/or a nervous breakdown, it seems dangerous in other ways, too. It doesn't take long until Rachel and Joe are following leads separately and together.

A lot of people do a lot of unwise things and Rachel certainly does her share of risky behavior. She claims that she's safe from the big bad serial killer because he's locked up, seeming to ignore the fact that he won't be locked up anymore in a couple of days. For a woman who knows just how dangerous life is for women, Rachel seems impervious to the fact that anything could happen to her. Situational awareness isn't in her tool kit much of the time.

I don't remember Rachel being unlikeable in Night Swim although she does warm in more ways than one towards the end of the book. There is a lot going on here and it can be hard to sort out all the victims of deadly happenings because there are so many of them over a long time span. I'm hoping the next time we see Rachel she'll be in a better mood. Actually, I'm pretty sure she'll be in a better mood...wink wink.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed The Night Swim and was happy to see Rachel Krall back for another adventure. Shes suffering from the success of her podcast, having to live a life under the radar and is sought out by prisoner who needs/wants her help.

Rachel's travels through the world vapid, soul sucking social media influencers is hilarious as she needs to be accepted by them for her investigation and is simultaneously repulsed by them. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the pace at which the plot is rolled out - plenty of twists and turns that make the ending a pleasant surprise.

Definitely recommend and I hope to see more of Rachel Krall (and Megan Goldin) in the future.

3 ⭐️ Recommended for SOME readers…

In my review for “The Night Swim” (Rachel Krall #1) a Goodreads Choice nominee for best mystery/thriller 2020,
I mentioned that I was hoping that we had not seen the last of Rachel and her podcast-“Guilty or Not Guilty”.
Review for “The Night Swim”: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3125537862

So when I was approved to read a very early copy of this upcoming SUMMER release, I moved it straight to the top of my toppling TBR stack , hoping to start the year with a 5 star thriller.

But that was not to be.

The FBI has lured Rachel Krall to Florida with the promise of exclusive access to an ACTIVE FBI case.

Maddison Logan (@JustMaddie) a popular Influencer on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, visited an inmate named Terrance Bailey, a suspected serial killer who could only be convicted for petty theft, two days before his release.
And, then she DISAPPEARED.

Rachel’s name came up during their visit, and the FBI is hoping that Rachel will agree to meet with him to find out why-and maybe get a lead on Maddison.

Rachel will inserts herself into the INFLUENCER world at a BUZZCON conference, where she will discover dangerous rivalries, hoping to learn more about Maddison. She and FBI agent Joe Martinez will also discover connections to at least two unsolved cases, of girls who also went missing just as Terrance Bailey was incarcerated.

Could Terrance Bailey still have an accomplice on the outside?

“The Night Swim” was told from the alternating perspectives of two characters, Rachel and Hannah (the sister of a Victim) along with the transcripts of Rachel Krall’s Season Three podcast, as she follows a LIVE TRIAL for the first time, while making her PODCAST.

But, the style of this book was different, and I feel like that worked against it.

This story used just Rachel’s POV.

There are a few chapters which sum up Rachel’s findings as she investigates, which (currently) are only distinguished by a change in FONT style. I assume that they are her dictations for a future podcast, though they are not identified as such, as she isn’t creating episode four of her PODCAST during this case.

Instead of being an outsider who is conducting interviews, for a PODCAST, after the fact, she is much more of an insider this time, right smack in the thick of things.

I am not at all enamored by INFLUENCERS and that lifestyle and this book spends A LOT of time in their world.

READ THIS-if you want a mystery with an insider’s look at how the INFLUENCER lifestyle works
SKIP IT-if you don’t, and you were hoping for EPISODE 4 of Rachel’s “Guilty or Not Guilty” podcast. You won’t get that here.

Thank You to St. Martin’s Press for the gifted copy. It was my pleasure to offer a candid review!

THIS WAS THE PERFECT THRILLER THAT I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED TO END MY YEAR ON!!!!!!

Listen. The Night Swim is one of my all time favorite thrillers & when I saw that Megan Goldin was bringing Rachel Krall back for another book I SCREAMED. I will forever read every book she ever writes!!! Megan Goldin is the crème de la creme of thriller authors for me 🫶

Rachel (THE Rachel) gets a call from the FBI about a potential murder/missing person. The main suspect is getting released from jail in a couple days & they think he’s involved with the case of a missing influencer, but they need her help. Little does she know…this may be wayyyyy more than what she signs up for.

I couldn’t put it down, YALL. I really couldn’t. I was immediately engulfed in the storyline & I HAD TO KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN!!!! So good. Seriously. All twisty & turny & GREAT. ALL THE SNAPS FOR MEGAN!!! And I had to look up some words so thank you for this learning journey as well heh

Thank you to St. Martin’s press for this outstanding ARC!!!

I absolutely loved The Night Swim so hearing there was a second book with the same character had me pumped!!

This had a completely different flow tho. The podcast parts weren’t clear they were the podcast. It kind of confused me a bit.

I also thought some parts were repetitive in the first half when it would switch between characters. And i wasn’t really a fan of the influencer aspect. It felt like too much was going on in this story.

I think if some of that was toned down and more focused on the mystery and missing person, i would have enjoyed it more. Rachel also didn’t have the same personality i felt as the first. This wasn’t my fav but enjoyable.

In this second installment to author Megan Goldin’s Rachel Krall series, “Dark Corners,” the feisty and driven true crime podcaster becomes embroiled in an FBI investigation centering on a missing influencer whose disappearance is linked to a soon-to-be-released prison inmate who has long been suspected of being a serial killer.

While this follow-up story to “The Night Swim” was enjoyable overall, it fell a bit short of the 5-start read that I was anticipating at the start. That said, fans of Megan Goldin and her Rachel Krall series, such as myself, will likely find this to be a quick, suspenseful read with an intriguing and socially relevant storyline.

I look forward to reading future installments to this series!
