So good! I want every audiobook to sound like a Megan Goldin audiobook. Really enjoyed this one in large part to the narration, but the story also kept me captivated and I need to keep reading.

4.5 stars rounded up!
This was better than the Night Swim! It felt like a law and order episode, with so many twists and turns. It was paced so well and I read it in under 24 hours.
BUT WHY DOES EVERY BOOK HAVE TO HAVE A ROMANCE????

Oh my gosh the first one was amazing but this one? WOW! Might be my most favorite thriller series this year!

Dark and unsettling, Dark Corners was simply terrific. apt me glued to my couch until the last page. Twists and turns until I got to the jaw dropping conclusion. I'll read anything Ms. Goldin writes!

Wow, Megan Goldin is genius! Another 5 star read for me.
I am so happy this is a series, Rachel Krall is a great character and a little romance thrown into this one was just what I needed!
Dark Corners definitely kept me on my toes and hooked throughout the whole book, Megan’s writing is so skilled.
I can’t wait to read more from this Author and I can’t wait to continue this series!

Rachel Krall, the true crime podcaster (The Night Swim), returns to search for a popular influencer who disappears after visiting a suspected serial killer.
I have mixed feelings about this one. I have for years been a HUGE fan of Megan Goldin and the thrillers she writes. And this one had ALLLLL the makings of a must-read for me. But this one was a bit off the mark. It was a decent follow up but honestly didn't feel like it was written by the same person. Fingers crossed that this is just a one-off because I will still grab the next Megan Goldin book without a second thought.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

“Always know what you’re walking into. Dark corners can be danger points.”
I enjoyed Night Swim by Megan Goldin and was so excited when she announced another Rachel Krall book.
Rachel Krall finds herself embroiled in the mysterious disappearance of Maddison, a popular influencer. Things get interesting when they discover that Terence, a soon-to-be-released prisoner with a possible connection to the murders of several women, was one of the last people Maddison visited. Stuck in their investigation, the FBI calls Krall. Can she discover Maddison's whereabouts before it is too late?
Dark Corners was a lot of fun. While I did find part of the mystery to be a bit predictable, several things kept me on my toes. The ending was full of tension and a bit of a nail-biter.
I read other reviews that Rachel seemed out of character in this installment, some noting they felt like she was rude. I didn't notice this. However, I read Night Swim a while ago. I am not sure I remember her characterization enough to note any changes.
For me, the downsides were mostly due to my personal preferences. I am not a huge fan of social media/influencers in books. It just doesn't do much for me. One thing I liked about Night Swim was the courtroom drama, and there is none of that here. Also, I do think it was a bit long, and there was some repetitiveness I could have done without. However, I still enjoyed Dark Corners, and recommend it to fans of Rachel Krall, mixed media, true crime podcasts, mysteries, and thrillers.
Further, this is technically book two in the series, but it can easily be read as a standalone.

A great follow-up for Rachel Krall and her podcast/cold-case solving abilities.
As the reader, we get to know Rachel a little better. See more of her insight, feelings, and motivations. Rachel is called down to Florida to visit an inmate. This meeting is initiated by the FBI and Rachel is intrigued, yes, but also firmly guided every step down to Florida. The inmate is a suspected killer, a man put away on a technicality really. He's just about to get out and he wants to see Rachel Krall.
Rachel is a podcaster - specifically handling cases of wrongful conviction and cold cases so, she can be in demand by prisoners, each one seemingly wanting their own story told.
To add to the mystery, Bailey recently saw his only visitor, a growing influencer, Maddison Logan. And now... she's gone missing. In a race against the clock Rachel works with an intriguing FBI agent to gather as much information on Maddison Logan and what is behind her disappearance, hoping against hope that she is somehow still alive.
This book was fast-paced, a page-turner. The interspersed "episodes" of Krall's podcast break up the chapters and add to the experience - especially if you're a pocast listener. I found myself piecing some of the story together but left guessing filling in the gaps. If you were a fan of Goldin's prior books, you'll be a fan of this as well.

Dark Corners by Megan Goldin is the second book in the Rachel Krall series, I found this to be a very good read. I love thrillers and this one certainly didn't disappoint. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and St-Martin's Press, I am leaving my review voluntarily.

I have enjoyed every book I've read by Megan Goldin and this was no different! When I heard that there was going to be a sequel to The Night Swim, I was so excited. I normally only enjoy "True Crime" when it's fictional because real life stories gives me the ick, so it was no surprise that I would love this. I read this alongside with the audiobook, which I highly recommend! This story is told like it's a podcast and those aspects of the audiobook are really well done! Every big reveal in this book caught me off guard and kept me on my toes. I'm really hoping that there's going to be another book in this series because WOW!

Rachel Krall is back at it again in Dark Corners, the sequel to The Night Swim, by Megan Goldin.
We follow Rachel as she uncovers the mystery of the dissappearance of a van-life influencer.
I loved how the whole influencer theme was treated, and I found it pretty accurate, according to my knowledge on influencers and social media. One question lingered in my mind: do influencer pods actually exist??!! They're not a myth?? The one in here was almost like a cult, and I found that hilarious.
The mystery was really intriguing, and I especially liked the few last chapters.
I really like Rachel as a character, and if her podcast was real, I'd listen to it for sure.
One thing I must say, though, is that I liked the first book a bit more, but this one was also pretty good. I can't wait to read the next one!
I’d like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I will recommend this to fans of the genre because it gets the job done as a thriller. Personally, I found it hard to keep going due to the cast of characters. I quickly lost interest in anything to do with influencers or that culture. Too bad it was such a large part of the book.

Rachel Krall is summoned by the FBI to meet with Florida Prison inmate Terence Bailey. Bailey is set to be released from prison in two days time. The FBI is scrambling to find a missing social media influencer who was last seen visiting Bailey in prison - his only visitor ever during his six year sentence. Bailey was the #1 suspect in a series of unsolved murders, though they never had enough evidence to convict him.
In a hail mary move, the FBI brings in Rachel Krall, which goes spectacularly sideways. They find themselves up against the clock to figure out what happened all those years ago and where their missing girl is now.
Told in multiple POV and podcast segments, Rachel Krall and FBI Agent Martinez work separately, and sometimes together to investigate the cases. Loaded with red herrings and things that are not what they seem, this twisty suspense thriller kept me fully engaged. I especially enjoyed the time spent on the inner workings of social media influencers at BuzzCon, it was a whole other drama element that added to the story.

This is book two in the Rachel Krall series, but can definitely be read as a standalone.
It’s pretty cool this book takes place in my home state of Florida about 20 minutes away. I found myself frequently looking up points of interest.

Another fantastic read from Ms. Goldin! The thriller twists and turns leading to a truly shocking denouement. Ms. Goldin's one of the few authors who are able to incorporate things like social media posts and podcast formats authentically giving the novel a freshness that stands above many others operating in the same space.

This was the first Megan Goldin book I’ve read. I enjoyed the story. It was gripping and shocking, but slightly predictable. I would recommend as a good thriller to readers.

Honestly, a slog to get through. I LOVED The Night Swim so I was very excited when this was announced, but this just didn't hook me the same way.
I liked the bouncing around to different perspectives but I thought each perspective was a little too cliché. Joe was literally every singe FBI agent to ever grace a page or screen. "I want eyes on him at all times. I don't want him taking a shit without me knowing about it." Yah Joe, we've heard it before.
Rachel has kind of an above it all personality to me. Like she's so interested in "just the story" to know what an influencer is and how they get their money even though she has a hit podcast? Chad literally explains the inner workings of the influencer community like she is from another planet. This might have worked in 2015 when the inner workings of internet culture was still elusive to the average reader. Now I'm bored and want more depth.
Also the red herrings got such swift tie ups right at the end and I wish they were more tied into the main story.
Overall it felt outdated and I was left wishing I could have just watched the made for TV movie version.
Thank you to Netgalley for this advanced read in exchange for my honest review.

Rachel Krall is back with another mystery for her podcast. I love the podcast angle Megan Goldin intertwines in her stories. The audio book was great because the podcast chapters were read like a podcast with background noises and everything. I really enjoyed the storyline. There were times that Rachel was a little immature in her responses but other than that, I loved her working together with Joe Martinez and I thought the red herrings were well played. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next Rachel Krall mystery!!

DARK CORNERS is a follow-up to Goldin's book THE NIGHT SWIM, featuring podcaster Rachel Krall. It starts off with a bang, with the FBI summoning Rachel to a prison to see an inmate, Terrence Bailey, and to ask about a missing travel influencer, Maddison Logan. With Bailey about to be released from prison, despite being a suspect in the murders of six women, and Maddison, the only person to ever visit him in prison now missing, the FBI is at a loss. Rachel's name has come up in their investigation, and Agent Martinez reluctantly asks for her help.
"Always know what you're walking into. Dark corners can be danger points."
CORNERS keeps up a brisk pace, telling the story from Rachel and Martinez's points of view, along with bits of her podcast and the POV of a rideshare driver. All these short snippets build up the suspense and tension. You find yourself wanting to know what is happening and how everyone is connected. Further, Rachel and Martinez's relationship deepens and they have a bit of tension between themselves too (if you catch my drift). There are some major dark moments and gruesome places--be prepared!
Rachel winds up going undercover at a social media conference to seek out information about Maddison. As she does, Goldin gets in some not so subtle digs on the artifice of the influencer life and social media. There are some great characters introduced via the other influencers--some of them are quite humorous. We hit on all the latest trends in social media: influencers, travel bloggers, podcasts, and true crime.
This is still a mystery at heart, and it's engaging and interesting. There's never a huge twist, and I had a decent idea early on about a big piece of the plot, but I still found the book to be quite compelling. Rachel Krall is a very smart and intriguing character--and it would be fun to see Martinez again, too.

This was another very bingeable and enjoyable read from Megan Goldin! You are kept on your toes throughout the entire book and never really sure where things are headed. A few little cringe moments around the influencers. Overall, I had a great time with it and hope we get more with Rachel Krall!

The second in the Rachel Krall series and did not disappoint! Murder, mystery and a podcast tie in so perfectly together!
A huge influencer headed to an BuzzCon in Florida suddenly disappears. Maddison, a beautiful girl with many followers but who seemingly came from nowhere. No past, no history, where did she come from? A dead body in the mud. And a potential murderer, Terrance Bailey about to be released from prison. A stinky, repugnant drive-share man. How do all of these key people fit together?
This story was absolutely enthralling! The suspense was so intense and made it hard to put down. The story was perfectly written with the right amount of sordid details. I thoroughly enjoyed this follow up to Megan’s last story, The Night Swim. Four stars and a sticky note saying “MUST READ”!! Y’all go grab both of the books if you haven’t yet!
