Dark Corners is filled with suspense, great characters, and a captivating plot. Rachel is a fearless force to be reckoned with. She empathizes with the victims of crimes and has a special way of getting people to open up to her and reveal the information she is seeking. The fact that Rachel is a podcaster adds extra intrigue and excitement to the story. This book is an absolutely excellent thriller!

This is book #2 in the Rachel Krall series, but this is the first book I’ve read in this series & it can easily be read as a standalone. This isn’t the first book I’ve read by this author & I believe they write intriguing mysteries, but this book just wasn’t for me.

It is an interesting thing to have chapters with the point of view from the villain/killer. It is chilling to have that knowledge but in some ways, it takes away the mystery since you are aware so early who is the killer.

This is a spoiler, which clarifies my frustrations with this story, so proceed reading with caution…
I was disappointed to learn that the villain of this story had such a prominent chronic health issue & they also happened to be such an evil character. There is a well-documented history of disabled people consistently being cast into the role of villain. This book utilized the disabled villain as the main trope & as a disabled person, I am so tired of seeing this repeatedly happen.

Because of my issue that I listed above, I struggled to connect to the story & truly get lost in the mystery.

I think Megan Goldin can write incredible mystery novels & I really enjoyed her book, Stay Awake.

Thanks to NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for the gifted arc, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.

Because I gave this a lower rating, I will not be posting this anywhere else.

I was such a fan of The Night Swim. While I never listen to podcasts, I love a book about one and it drew me in from the start and I gave it all (five) the stars. I was lucky enough to read this follow up to The Night Swim with some great buddies, and that upped my enjoyment of the book. But I didn’t love this one quite as much as book one. First let me note that these two books have the same main character but different stories, so they can each be read as a stand alone.

What this one lacked for me was the feel of the podcast. I read an ARC and I’ve heard the final copy is a little clearer, but I had a hard time figuring out what was happening in the chapters representing the podcast. These almost seemed like research notes and not an actual podcast. Were they in the current timeline or another?

But the story itself was interesting. A missing influencer with a tie to a convict on the verge of being released from jail. Rachel is pulled into the mix and it is quite the cat and mouse game as she steps into an influencer convention. I had a great time trying to figure out who was genuine and who was less than reliable. This may have been slightly enhanced by the buddy read, but I thought the story was solid and might have been a five star read for me if not for my disappointment over the podcast formatting.

While I know the summer is almost over in the northern hemisphere, this really is the epitome of a beach or summer read. I’d call it a blockbuster thriller read.

I love Rachel Krall! I found myself actually liking this book better than the 1st one. I liked the FBI agent and the possible romance. The way Rachel felt about the influencers really resonated with me because I too just don’t get it! The way the book ended makes me hopeful that we get another one. My only disappointment was I wish someone had gotten Mary that kitten after all.

Thanks to the netgalley and the publisher for my free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Megan Goldin writes the most intriguing and captivating stories. Dark Corners is spine tingling and unnerving- brilliantly written and executed with well developed characters. Good pacing. Overall an engaging and entertaining read

Dark Corners by Megan Goldin is a captivating exploration into the enigmatic realm of social media influencers. This enthralling narrative, filled with unexpected turns and a gripping storyline, had me eagerly flipping through the pages until the astonishing climax.

Rachel Krall, the true crime podcaster in Megan Goldin’s "The Night Swim" returns, and I must say is better than ever! Megan Goldin's books are not to be missed. Dark Corners is my favorite yet!

I really struggled with the writing style in this book. It was often repetitive and slow paced. I also did not feel like it needed to be multiple POV’s. I did enjoy the twist, but the ending didn’t really give me the closure I was hoping for.

Oooh I loved this! I didn’t realize that it correlates with Rachel from Night Swim, I never put two and two together but I also loved that thriller.⁣

Rachel is drawn to Florida by the FBI to find evidence to keep Terence Bailey in jail after multiple women have been murdered but there just wasn’t enough evidence to keep him in jail. ⁣

Rachel is a podcaster who has gotten several people found guilty for murder out of jail because she found the true killers.⁣

When an influencer goes missing, and two others wind up dead, all having the same tattoo; that Terence just so happened to draw while in jail, we follow a twisty, suspenseful story unwinding all of the dark secrets that tie all of these people together in some way and eventually lead us to the truth. ⁣

We also follow the man picking people up for a ride share and murdering them or trying not to, if he can. Is this Terence Bailey or is this someone else?⁣

The audio of this was FANTASTIC. It was like listening to a real podcast, while falling a murderer, a podcaster and an FBI agent, while also following influencers. I was so invested in this story. ⁣
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

WOW, Megan Goldin has done it again. I couldn’t put her recent book “Dark Corners” down. The story takes place in Daytona Beach, Florida and is a suspenseful thoroughly enjoyable story involving Rachel Krall, the true crime podcaster. I highly recommend ‘Dark Corners”.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press for a copy of Dark Corners by Megan Goldin.

I enjoyed this thriller that brings us back into the world of True Crime podcaster Rachel Krall from Night Swim. It was a little slow in the beginning but once I got in, I couldn't put it down.

I'm hoping there are more Rachel Krall books!

All of Megan Goldin's books have kept me up way past my bedtime, unable to wait to find out what happens next. I was excited to see what Rachel Krall did after the ending of The Night Swim, and this book picks up right where that left off, jetting Rachel immediately to Daytona to help with a case set in the middle of a social media influencer's conference. I enjoyed all of the complexities of the mystery, and had my scaredy-cat reflexes activated more than once as I was reading, but loved it. Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance digital copy ~ I can't wait to read what the author writes next!

Rachel, a podcaster, is called in by the FBI to assist on a case. A serial killer, soon to be released, has a visit from an Influencer, who ends up going missing. Rachel’s name is brought up in that visit. Is Rachel in danger? What is the connection to the killer? The influencer?

Again, I jumped into Book 2 without reading Book 1, Night Swim. I’ve heard great things about Night Swim. Definitely can be read as a stand-alone. So much happening in the book so it was fast paced enough keep me interested, maybe because I was going to discuss as a Buddy Read. There was a storyline or two that I found irrelevant. Ending was pretty much as I expected. Characters were engaging enough to keep the flow of the story going. I definitely want to read Night Swim now more than ever.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC. This is my honest opinion.

The Night Swim was one of the best books I read in 2021, so when I found out Dark Corners was its sequel, I had to have it!

When influencer Maddison Logan disappears after visiting a suspected serial killer in prison, Rachel Krall is called in by the FBI to help when her name turns up in their investigation.

Megan Goldin sure knows how to write a twisty thriller. We are thrown into the world of influencers, who are obsessed with cultivating the perfect life, but also have their own secrets. The story was fast paced with multiple layers that somehow all came together perfectly. There were also some pretty smart red herrings that constantly had me shifting how I thought things were going to go. Finding out the true story was such a shock and it really had me feeling emotional for one of the characters.

Dark Corners was a great addition to the Rachel Krall series. Here’s hoping we’ll be seeing more of her in the future!

Dark Corners is the second book in the Rachel Krall series by Megan Goldin. This is a relevant, timely thriller surrounding the release of a serial killer from prison, the attendees of an influencer convention, and a rideshare driver with a unique and unfortunate medical condition.

Rachel Krall is a true crime podcaster who is known for getting to the truth when others can’t, and occasionally turning convictions around when someone has been wrongfully accused. She has an uncanny ability to solve crimes and therefore is called in to have a conversation with Terence Bailey who is about to be released on parole. She comes away with nothing useful, but a string of missing women and Rachel’s cryptic link to them draws her into an investigation alongside a reluctant FBI agent, Joe Martinez. The two work together well and form another attachment, one not of the crime-solving nature.

This story is compelling and multi-faceted with many layers to the crime. It also offers a sad, probably exaggerated, but also eye-opening commentary on social media influencers and the pressures they face. I didn’t love the romantic angle because it felt rather sudden and unexpected, but I enjoyed the overall story with its twists and turns. I found that I didn’t want to stop reading, intrigued to see how it would all play out. Thought a part of a series, this story can easily be read a standalone.

Dark Corners (Rachel Krall #2) by Megan Goldin is a dark and edgy thriller that encompasses the world of influencers and the story's podcast foundation. I just loved the relatability of the influencer world and getting a peek behind the curtain. Though I guess I am already a bit behind the curtain with my bookstagram account as it tends to be a microcosm of the bigger influencer world.

I did a part read/part listen, and I just loved the narrators of the audio version - Samantha Desz and January LaVoy. Since the story kept referring to Rachel Krall's voice as silky and sultry, it was essential to have a narrator with that type of voice, and I think they found just the right one. And I especially enjoyed the podcasts interjected at points in the story as they give a more personal perspective than the narration, which is in the first person in Rachel and sometimes the bad guy's POV.

I also enjoy Rachel as an MC. She has an air of confidence that I gravitate towards, and she keeps her cool even in the most tenuous of situations. I also enjoyed that she got a love interest in this story. It humanized her, and I thought that was needed.

Lastly, Dark Corners is the second book in the series, but any reader can easily read it as a stand-alone. You know who did it early on, but there are a bunch of twists and turns in other aspects of the story that keep the suspense high and the pages turning quickly. I loved how focused and fast-paced this story read. That's how I love my thrillers, and this one didn't disappoint!

Rachel Krall, true crime podcast journalist from The Night Swim, returns in Dark Corners and travels to Florida at the behest of the FBI. Terence "Terry" Bailey is scheduled to be released in a few days. Terence is suspected of being a serial killer, and with the help of an accomplice, is possibly involved in the disappearance of a travel influencer named Maddison after she visits Terence in prison. As Rachel's name comes up during this fateful visit, the FBI asks Rachel to talk to the inmate to see what he knows. What happens next makes for a very interesting read.

While the story starts slow, it definitely picks up speed and will keep you guessing to the end. I think this was a great follow-up to The Night Swim and many thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC.

We get to return to true crime Podcaster Rachel Krall's world in this follow up to "The Night Swim." This time, her name pops up in an FBI investigation, and Special Agent Joe Martinez flies her down to talk to an inmate in Florida suspected in several murders. Rachel then learns the suspect's last visitor has gone missing, and also reached out to Ra hwl for help finding her friend's killer. She feels the need to investigate the disappearance of this person who had reached out to Rachel for help.

This book is told in three POVs with three different story lines that all come together. It wasn't confusing at all and it was interesting to see the plot from each of their prospective. Rachel and Joe are very likable characters. It was also interesting to see the lives of influencers. The pacing is excellent and I only put this book down when I had to. It's not necessary to read The Night Swim first, but there are spoilers for that book in this one. I would recommend this to true crime podcast fans and lovers of a good mystery.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press, author Megan Goldin and NetGalley for gifting me a digital copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

I love the main character, Rachel Krall. She's dedicated and does not give up when she's trying to help someone or solve a case, even if it means personal danger. This time she gets pulled into a missing persons case by FBI Special Agent Joe Martinez by peaking her curiosity and playing her masterfully, but he's trying to find a missing girl. After an unsatisfying visit with a prisoner, Rachel is summarily dismissed by Joe, but Rachel is intrigued by the case and does some snooping of her own. She's an excellent investigator. Her character makes smart moves and asks realistic questions that should have been asked by the local police. Between that and the smart chapters of her podcasts, it feels like you're reading a nonfiction crime book. I like how the book ended and would love to see more of Rachel and Joe, as he grounds her, so she seems more human and not a super hero.
