Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc of this book!
I really enjoyed The Night Swim, the first book in this...series? I presume? But Dark Corners was a bit of a let down.
The novel picks up with Rachel after the events of the first book. Trying to enjoy some time off, she's brought to Florida because her name has been brought up in a missing persons case that is also tied to a suspected serial killer getting out of jail in a couple days. Rachel joins forces with the FBI to find the missing influencer before the suspected killer gets out of jail.
I didn't really mind the plot of this novel. I do think that the conversation around influencing and influencers was a bit one-sided and felt a bit like it had an agenda that all influencing is negative and narcissistic. There was also a lot of explaining about the influencer world that I just didn't think the book needed. Like, most people know what brand deals are?
Which gets into my biggest critique of the novel, which is the writing. Where was the editor? This book is so repetitive. Things are repeated two or three times as if the reader hadn't just read them. Like, yes I understood the first time, you don't need to tell me again. This would be in both the same character's POV, as well as when the POV changes--the POV would rehash what we just learned from the previous POV, which isn't necessary. It made the novel feel so long and so redundant. I also would love to know why we kept using people's government names. Example: "Joe Martinez and Rachel Krall walked into the room..." Like you can just say Martinez and Rachel, it's okay. I know who you mean.
I also didn't love that we had POVs from two other characters. I don't remember The Night Swim having more than the POV of Rachel and the podcast, but maybe there were. In this case, it felt like the podcast element was pushed to the wayside to instead give us the POV of the detective, which...I didn't care about.
Overall, this didn't work for me. I'm unsure if I'll continue with the series because the past two Goldin books I've read haven't worked for me writing wise. We may have to part ways.

I was excited to receive an ARC of this book and go on another journey with Rachel Krall.
However, the book starts out about Maddison, a social media influencer, that goes missing after interviewing an inmate accused of being a serial killer. The FBI then calls in Rachel to assist on the case and once she agrees she is in for way more than she thought.
The book alternates POV’s between Rachel, the FBI agent, and the serial killer (always interesting to get the sinister thoughts of the serial killer involved).
This book is very on trend with the social media influencer phenomenon going on right now, but I felt that aspect was WAY overdone and drawn out to some eye rolling moments. This book also took quite some time to get invested in and while I found it interesting it just didn’t fulfill my expectations. The ending to me fell flat and didn’t give me that gasp moment. The twists were over the top and overall it lacked the depth I wanted from this story and author because I know she is exceptional. This is just my personal opinion, but I am not a huge fan of throwing a little romance into these thrillers because in this case it got a bit all over the place and distracting. It was still an interesting read and wouldn’t deter anyone from giving a read of their own.
I wanted to thank Megan Goldin, Netgalley, and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC of this book!

I really enjoyed this second in the series following Rachel Krall, podcaster and investigative journalist. The setting and social media context were interesting and felt really relevant to our times. It was pretty crazy! The pacing and writing were definitely moving things along really quickly with some interesting twists. I will be looking out for book 3 in the future. I definitely recommend this series to thriller readers.

So I loved night swim the first book on this series and this book did not disappoint
I love seeing Rachel’s character learn more and investigate everything
I will say idk why but I wanted more at the end but the twists and turns kept me going

Twisty, riveting and I just could not stop reading until I was done!
Just like the previous book I enjoyed the podcast elements of this book. It would be a good one to consume as an audiobook if you like them. This time Rachel is not an observer, but she is right in the middle of the case. It was a change from the last book and I enjoyed it. The peek into the world of social media influencers was interesting and timely.
I thought I knew what was going on in the book, but it turned out that I was wrong. So wrong. I loved how everything connected at the end.
4/5 stars
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of this book.

This was a fast paced story with great characters and unexpected twists. This one really held my interest. I read it straight through in less than a day. This is the first Megan Goldin book that I've read but it won't be the last. Highly recommended.

I have read several books written by this author and they all have been 5 star reviews, including this new one. I first met Rachel Krall in a previous book and she once again gives us a great investigative story. There are several twist and turns along with a good mystery and a whodunit. If you enjoy a well written book with believable characters, pick this one up. Well worth it.
I received an ARC from St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my unbiased review – This one comes in with high 5 stars.

Megan Golding does not disappoint her suspense thriller readers with this one, whether you listen to the audio version or read the book. I love that unsolved mystery podcaster from 'The Night Swim,' Rachel Krall, is back. The story begins when a convicted felon is due to be released in a couple of days and law enforcement would really like to prevent this. Rachel gets invovled in the case down in the Datona Beach area with a bunch of influencers. I really enjoyed Megan's writing style, we readers get to know things first and then watch how the police detectives work their way in that direction. This is an author whose books will always be on my list.

I'm a big fan of Megan Goldin and I was excited to see the continuation of the Rachel Krall character. I hope there are more books to come from this series!
In Dark Corners, podcaster Rachel Krall goes undercover at an influencer convention to figure out what led to the disappearance of mega influencer Maddison Logan. Maddison had recently visited Terence Bailey in prison, right before he was scheduled for release. Terence is suspected in the murders of six women but was only convicted of breaking and entering. The mysterious circumstances lead to Rachel's collaboration with the FBI.
I found Dark Corners to be a clever take on true crime and influencer culture. The only part that didn't work for me was the romance, I didn't feel like it added much to the plot and was a distraction from the rest of the book.

3.5 stars
Dark Corners is book #2 of the Rachel Krall series. Rachel is a true crime podcaster who digs into murder cases. In this latest book, Rachel is lured by the FBI to a Florida prison in the hopes that she can shed some light on why a serial killer she has never met had given her name to a now missing woman (van life influencer Maddison Logan).
I actually started Night Swim awhile back but it got sent back to the library when I ran out of time to finish it. In the meantime, I got approved for this book and thought I would give it a try!
This book was interesting for sure. I enjoyed the journey into the influencer world decently well, but the “twists” were just not twisty enough for me. I actually really like books written in multiple POVs but I think the chapters written in different font were supposed to be read as her “podcast” and it
Is not clearly defined that way.
Other reviews are saying that Rachel is written as combative and rude, but I think she was written as tenacious and ambitious; she wanted to get to the truth and to give answers to the family members left behind.
Overall a solid mystery/thriller. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the digital ARC.

I am a true crime podcast fanatic. Cooking dinner… driving… showering… you name it, I am listening. So The Night Swim and Dark Corners were right up my alley. I love Rachel Krall and I really loved Detective Martinez in this book. The story was so well written with so many twists and turns it was almost hard to keep up. I also really enjoyed getting a look into the life of influencers because I feel like there aren’t too many books that broach that topic yet! I devoured this book in under 24 hours but the only thing that kept this one from being a 5⭐️ was that the ending felt a bit abrupt and I was looking for just a little more at the end.
I still definitely recommend both The Night Swim and Dark Corners

Oh my gosh, Megan Goldin does it again with a thrilling book that I couldn’t put down! I read and listened to this one, and loved it!

Guys, this one was just… ok for me. I enjoyed reading it but just felt like the ending didn’t come together for me - it gets a meh vote. But Al always - everyone has different opinions and this MIGHT be your jam! That’s what’s so great about reading and books.

Dark Corners is a riveting page turning read that will have you holding your breath.
Rachel a true crime podcaster is back and this time trying to find the missing influencer Maddison who is somehow connected to who the police deem a serial killer.
The FBI have requested her help.
Terrence Bailey however is about to be released from prison ( he has not been prosecuted for the murders as of yet) and the last person to see Maddison was Terry.
Twists and turns and red herrings keep the lights on late at night.
Megan Goldin has brought us another great read in Book 2 of Rachel Krall and I cant wait to see where she takes Rachel and us next.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for a compelling read.

4.5⭐️
I loved Night Swim with true crime podcaster Rachel Krall, so was keen to try the murder mystery sequel. Here Rachel is summoned by the FBI to help with investigating the disappearance of a popular influencers not long after she met an incarcerated suspected serial killer.
Bullets points for Dark Corners
📕a sequel of Night Swim
📕enters the world of social media influencers
📕good plot complexity
The world of social media influencers was an interesting theme, the plot has good complexity and layers. There’s always plenty of interest with a good pace.
I found Rachel and Joe likeable, and enjoyed their chemistry.
It’s a book that I’d highly recommend.

Dark Corners is a serial killer mystery about a podcaster who is brought into an investigation and finds herself at the center of both the police investigation and the killer's sights. Technically, this is a sequel to The Night Swim (which was also good) but you can reach it as a stand alone in any order. I would definitely read another Rachel Krall book. Keep them coming, Megan Goldin.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the electronic advanced copy.

i have read a few books by this author and have liked most of them. i was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book since it doesnt come out until august. Dark Corners is the sequel to the Night Swim, and although it is not absolutely necessary, it is still recommended to read that book first since there are enough references to the first book and its storylines that it will make more sense if you know it. while this book is fiction, it is about a true crime podcaster who helps the police and FBI with unresolved cases.
the plot of this story wasnt quite as grueling as the previous book, though it was still kind of creepy at times. this time, our heroine is brought to Florida to help with a case, though the FBI only wants to selectively allow her to be involved. of course, that doesnt fly well with our true crime podcast host main character, and she becomes so involved that she uncovers way more than they did in no time. there are a few things that i had definitely figured out way before they were revealed, so maybe it is a little predictable, but it didnt take away from the story at all and at least everything was resolved rather than leaving things hanging like some books seem to. i cannot say much more without getting too spoilery, so i will end here saying thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC. i really enjoyed this book and feel so privileged to already have been able to read it and will definitely be recommending this series.

Rachel Krall is my favorite fictional true crime podcaster. I’ve read other books with podcasters, but nobody holds a candle to Krall.
This book is quite the page turner! In true Goldin fashion there are multiple suspects and some very good twists. For a while I didn’t think all my questions were going to be answered, but no fear they were! So many thoughts while reading, but my #1 was why is Terrence Bailey obsessed with Maddison?! The answer to that question is so good!
If you loved Night Swim then don’t hesitate on this one!

This is a MUST. I devoured this one, and I mean DEVOURED! WIth such short chapters you will never want to quit turning the pages. There are missing girls, a serial killer that hasn’t been pinned down, a creeeeepy ride share driver, influencers. I swear this has it all. Obsessed.
4.5 rounded up!

I love this book! I plan to go back and read the first one. Rachel had such an interesting personality. I loved how we got little pieces along the way. The main killer was so crazy. The smell thing really was an extra bit that made him hate-able. Love the social media aspect of the book.
