Rachel is back and this case is complex and very relatable. Influencers are being targeted and the author gives you a glimpse into a world that isn't always as it seems. This one kept me guessing with several surprise twists. Also, by the end, I loved Joe. This one took me away from reality and I couldn't put it down. I had to know the answers!

I loved the first book by Megan Goldin, so I had high hopes for this one. It was fast-paced, which I loved, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I didn’t love this one as much as the first one. Though the story was super interesting, I thought there was a little too much romance in this one and less thriller.
I loved the chapters that were the point of view of the killer, as that is rare in books like this. I really enjoyed the alternating narrators and didn’t find it confusing.
Would have loved more twists .
Overall, solid book and I look forward to more by Megan goldin!

Surprisingly I liked Dark Corners more than I liked The Night Swim. That being said, it wasn't my favorite. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the novel, but I found it difficult to follow. Multiple narrators, and super repetitive. There were so many characters to keep up with, I didn't get to really enjoy the "podcast Rachel Krall" from The Night Swim.
There were some minor flaws in the book as well that would have been a huge no, no IRL: the relationship between Rachel and FBI Agent Martinez for one. Also... you can't get a fingerprint off of an envelope, etc. Small things that stood out to me that bothered me more than it should have.
Nonetheless, the story itself was good. I read Dark Corners in 24 hours. I was glad to not read any courtroom scenes, but reading about snobby influencers wasn't all that great either.
Thank you Megan Goldin, St. Martin's Press, & NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Worth the read. 3 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the eArc. I enjoyed Goldin’s previous Rachel Krall book Night Swim and the way she used the different perspectives (Hannah, Rachel, and Rachel’s podcast) to tell the story. She used a similar style in this book which kept the story fast paced and intriguing. I think some readers will guess the plot twists, but overall I found it to be an enjoyable read. I am interested in reading more of the Rachel Krall series.

Dark Corners is a really neat exploration of influencer culture, including its dark, toxic side. I loved everything about this story! The changing POVs, the way information was presented, the well-written characters - it had all the twists I look for in a thriller. I was hooked from the very first page! Rachel Krall is a dynamic and relatable MC, and I hope she stars in future stories. I read Dark Corners without first reading The Night Swim and can confirm it stands well on its own. Of course I’ll now be adding that book to my tbr. Overall, a fast paced thriller where everything ties together well in the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Rachel Krall is at it again! In this second book featuring the True Crime podcaster, we find Rachel summoned to Miami by the FBI in what she thinks is an exclusive look into a high profile case. Instead, Rachel finds herself tangled in a noxious web of murder, missing social media influencers, and cryptic messages from a soon to be released potential serial killer.
Full disclosure: I loved The Night Swim and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller and True Crime so I was obviously floored to get a chance to read Dark Corners as an ARC. Unfortunately, this was just okay for me. I wanted to love it so much more but found so many things that turned me off. First, it felt very....flat. Not a lot of action and tons of rather dry and boring descriptions. I understand it's fiction but just too many sheer coincidence moments as well as Rachel's involvement in FBI investigations? Way too far fetched to the point that it was almost comical. It felt like too many subplots, too much time spent on the influencers, and a twist that I saw coming miles away. The storyline had some promise but overall I was a bit let down. I'll still read every word Megan Goldin writes. I just hoped for another one to wow me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read and provide my honest review.

“ Always know what you are walking into. Dark corners can be dangerous points.”
If it’s a Megan Goldin book I have loved it and devoured it This one was no exception
Dark Corners is book 2 in the Rachel Krall series. We first met true crime podcaster Rachel Krall in Nightswim. Rachel returns to help the FBI find a missing social media influencer. We delve into the world of lifestyle influencers on social media. And while it may appear glamours on the surface, it can be cutthroat & deadly!!!
A solid thriller that had many twists and turns and keep me guessing till the very end.
While this is a follow up to Nightswim it can easily be read as a stand alone.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in return for my honest review

This was such a frustrating read for me. I loved Rachel Krall in The Night Swim, and was really looking forward to continuing with her story, but I didn’t feel like I was even reading the same character. In addition to being way more unlikable, she makes a lot of unwise choices that were out of character. To me, this read way more like a police procedural with the story following both Rachel and FBI Special Agent Joe Martinez. There were also no podcast transcripts which was one of my favorite elements in The Night Swim. While that book had a lot of depth and nuance behind it, this felt like your average thriller with nothing truly making it stand out. It’s certainly not a bad book, but with my high expectations, it was a letdown. This can be read as a standalone, but I recommend you just read The Night Swim instead 🤪.

Dark Corners by Megan Goldin
.
Terrence Bailey is about to be released from prison. Mere days before his release he is visited by a popular influencer, Maddison Logan. Now Maddison is missing and the FBI is asking podcaster Rachel Krall to help find her.
.
I had a lot of fun reading this one but I think I liked Night Swim more.
This was a fast paced mystery with so many questions.
The biggest being What happened to Maddison? Was she abducted and killed or did she runaway?
I enjoyed every minute of trying to put this puzzle together. The story moved quickly and I was sucked in from the first chapter.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an E-Arc copy of this novel. A good stay up late into the night novel.

Rating 4.6
Megan Goldin is good with words. No, not good --- genius. From her previous novel Stay Awake she has gained traction and developed an even better writing style. She crafts words so skillfully and sets scenes just right to build anticipation for the next chapters and appreciation for the portion a reader is currently traversing.
Everything from first page until before exposition is deliciously intriguing. I really enjoyed peeling back the covers to all the revelations that permeate this story.
It is insanely fast-paced but enables the readers to keep up with the narrative style. There is a lull at about 70% through but it all picked up pace twice from there.
The big reveals all came so perfectly together at the end. I have two complaints though --- the climactic exposition was a bit too brief in my opinion. I would have liked to see a more drawn-out version of events. Additionally, I had expected a more elaborate finale. However, all loose ends were tied, and I for one couldn't think of any loophole in the story.

Rachel Krall is a protagonist I can route for: intelligent, fearless, and determined. I enjoyed this second book in the series, although it could easily be read as a stand-alone. Dark Corners kept me on my toes, and although I had some idea of how it would play out, I didn't solve the entire mystery too early.

You guys, this book. No, no, no. No. It’s hard to believe that the writer who created a completely enthralling thriller like The Night Swim could follow it with two total stinkers in a row. Her second book, Stay Awake was a mess and this one was pretty much as dismal.
In The Night Swim, Goldin created Rachel Krall, our protagonist. She is sharp as a tack; she is confident and strong; and she is determined to get to the bottom of the cases she features on her wildly popular podcast ‘Guilty or Not Guilty’. After loving the first book, I was so excited for a follow up starring Rachel Krall.
In Dark Corners, the kick-ass female protagonist I’d come to love was written as though she was a whole other person. Instead of the admirable character Goldin created in the first book, the Rachel Krall we got this time was rude and smug and much focus was centred on her being “so sexy” with her “copper hair” that made her “look like a Viking princess”. I’m sorry - what? Who is this woman?
On top of the serious let down due to lack of continuity (since this is supposed to be a sequel), I actually found several typos and found the dialogue to be very disjointed at times.
I’m still holding out hope that Megan Goldin can produce a damn good book again. My fingers are crossed for more of the magic she created in The Night Swim.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for a free early copy of this book exchange for my honest review. The opinion above is my own.

I really enjoy Megan Goldin's books, and I was definitely excited to see Rachel Krall return in Dark Corners. I did find that for whatever weird reason, it was REALLY difficult for me to keep the characters straight in this book - which is probably my only real criticism, and probably entirely on me. Just one of those weird things, I never fully absorbed character name and role in combination.
Outside of that, this was a weird, twisty, intriguing look into the influencer culture, as well as police procedure. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and look forward to more from Goldin.

Rachel Krall, infamous true crime podcaster, is called in to assist in finding Madison Logan, a social media influencer when she suddenly disappears under suspicious circumstances after visiting Terrence Bailey in jail. Terrence is a suspect in multiple murders and is about to be released from prison and investigators are desperate to find enough evidence to hold him for the murders so he can't commit more once released! But, how does he tie into the disappearance of Madison? He must have an accomplice?!?! Many who know Terrence believe he is innocent but many more believe in his guilt! Who is Terrence Bailey, really? And, why was Rachel's name brought up during Madison's visit with Terrence? And, who is the suspicious man with a notable odor of garbage who is being linked to all the places Madison has recently visited?
Lots of questions arise throughout Dark Corners with a slow burn to the end!!
Dark Corners was an enjoyable read! The characters were interesting, well developed, and multi-dimensional resulting in difficulty guessing the ending of the story. The whole situation and a few side stories were a little far fetched resulting in my 4 star rating but it was a quick, easy read that I would recommend!
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

‘Always know what you’re walking into. Dark corners can be dangerous points.’
‘Dark Corners’ by Megan Goldin was SO MUCH FUN. I read ‘The Night Swim’ a couple years ago and it was like revisiting my old pal. I don’t remember everything about that book but I know I liked it. This follow up was solid!
In this sequel, famous crime podcaster Rachel Krall is back! She is recruited by the FBI to aid in an investigation into a missing influencer- Maddison Logan. Before she disappeared, she was seen visiting a convicted serial killer in prison. Why?! Where is Maddison now? Rachel uncovers the dark and dangerous world of social media influencers and the things many do to get ahead.
I really loved this one!!! And Holy Cow. I don’t know if I can ever use a rideshare ever again after reading this book! ALSO, side note, I’m glad I don’t have body oder that smells like rotting garbage!!
‘Dark Corners’ comes out on August 8, 2023. So until then, read ‘The Night Swim’ so you can catch up. Thank you @netgalley, @stmartinspress and @megangoldinauthor for this early review copy! SOLID!!
Q. Have you ever had a bad ride share experience? Most of mine have been good buuuuut there was one in Austin, Texas where I think the guy may have been sleep driving. How could he see through closed eyes?! He may have just been high. Anyway. My friend thought we were goners.
🖤🖤🖤

Many many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
I soaked up every second of The Night Swim, and it got me back into my love for reading thrillers, and I can say I’m a fan of Megan Goldin’s writing. Dark Corners is pegged as a sequel, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone. Rachel and her podcast make an appearance, but nothing from the first book outside of her character and occupation makes its way into this one, so it’s perfectly fine to read as a stand-alone. This one is a solid thriller - a little bit of a slow burn for the first half, but once we got moving, it really got moving - definitely recommend for thriller lovers out there.
Thank you again to NetGalley and the publishers for this copy in exchange for my review. Pub date is August 8, 2023!

Wow!! All I can say is WOW!!
Megan Goldin has created a masterpiece that I literally could not put down! Although I didn’t realize the main character, Rachel Krall, was a character from a previous book, Night Swim, I think that Dark Corners is a stand alone work of art!
Rachel Krall, a true crime podcaster, is flown in to consult on a case in Florida. After meeting with an inmate, everything turns on it’s head. Between a missing social media influencer, a sketchy rideshare driver, and a bunch of unsolved murders, Goldin leaves you turning page after page to see what happens next.
You will want to mark your calendars, set your alarms, do everything possible to not miss when this book comes out August 8th. Definitely Preorder this bad boy!!

This story was well-written and engaging enough to keep my attention throughout. With a fast-paced plot and an interesting storyline, it was a quick read for me that was easy to get lost in. While this was technically the second in a series, it would be easily read as a standalone and is honestly quite different from its predecessor, despite sharing a main character.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. What a great suspenseful read! I loved the Night Swim and this second installment did not disappoint. The writing and characters were very well done. The story line kept me guessing and dying to tie everything together. I could have done with a little less of the social media parts of the book. Overall an enjoyable read
