Dark Corners is the second installment of the Rachel Krall series by Megan Goldin. I was so excited when I was invited to review this book. I absolutely loved The Night Swim, so I couldn’t wait to read this.
This time, Rachel becomes entangled in the disappearance of a popular influencer. The FBI ask Rachel to help them find out more about Maddison Logan, who went missing shortly after visiting Terence Bailey, a suspected serial killer in prison. Rachel goes undercover at an influencer conference to learn more about Maddison, but when another body turns up, everyone is forced to consider the possibility that Bailey may have a partner who is still free. With Bailey’s imminent release from prison, Rachel and the FBI are in a race against the clock to figure out the truth.
This book sucked me in right away, and I couldn’t put it down until I got to the end. The book alternates narrators as the story unfolds. I loved all the twists and turns in the plot. Megan Goldin is officially a must-read thriller author for me. I definitely recommend picking up a copy of Dark Corners (and The Night Swim if you haven’t already, though I feel this could read as a stand-alone)!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sending me an ARC to read and review.

I was quite excited to get this eARC as I have really enjoyed Megan’s books. And this was my first buddy read!!
This is the second book ( following night swim) to follow Rachell Krall and her podcast.
This is a quick, exciting thriller. I was happy to binge it and the story was quite engaging. There were some storylines that felt forced or unnecessary (Jonny dying, the romance with the fbi agent, and everyone figuring out who she was at the influencer con) and the ending was quite rushed to me.
Read if you enjoyed: Night Swim, The Last Houseguest or The Lies I Tell

Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the eARC!

I hate rating this down because there are things about the Rachel character I genuinely like and I feel she's pretty well done. But. There were two characters who said each other's names every single time they spoke a sentence aloud, and I know it's a little thing, but it took me out of the experience so thoroughly that I couldn't enjoy anything else about it.

Thank you to NetGalley for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.
Rachel has been called down to Florida by the FBI to help with a case. She is a person of interest for the prisoner who may be involved in the disappearance of a social media influencer.
Honesty time, I struggled a lot in this book. I got about 30% of the way in and just could not finish. I loved The Nightswim, The Escape Room, and Stay Awake. Huge fan of Megan Goldin here. This is just not the one for me. I'm going to try again when the audiobook comes out because a lot of the time I do better with those when reading it gets me stuck. I did DNF this one. I hate to but I just can't get into it. I can't wait for Megan Goldin's next book..

Just finished Dark Corners. I was OBSESSED with Night Swim so I had extremely high hopes for this book. I enjoyed it. I love the character of Rachel Krall. However I wish her podcast was more of a focal point of the book. I thought the story had a lot of great twists. I couldn’t predict what the ending was. Overall I enjoyed Dark Corners but I think Night Swim will be really difficult to beat.
I read Megan Goldin’s other book Stay Awake. She never disappoints. One of my fav authors!

Megan Goldin’s Stay Awake was one of my favorite reads of 2022. Needless to say, I was so excited to read Dark Corners and it didn’t disappoint. I actually didn’t realize that this was the second book featuring Rachel Krall when I started reading it, but it didn’t affect my understanding or enjoyment of the book at all. I will now have to go back and read The Night Swim.
Terrance Bailey, a suspected serial killer (there was never enough evidence to convict him) is about to be released from prison for breaking and entering. Prior to his release, he meets with a popular social media influencer, Maddison Logan, who goes missing shortly after visiting him. Since Rachel Krall’s name is mentioned during their visit, the FBI bring her to meet with Bailey to help find Maddison. Why did Maddison visit Bailey and why did Krall’s name come up? What happened to Maddison?
This book started slow for me, but picked up until I was rapidly turning pages. I really enjoyed the unique way it was told. Goldin has become a must-read author for me.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review and thank you to Megan Goldin for writing such great books.

Thank you so much to St. Martin’s Press, Megan Goldin, and NetGalley for the eARC of Dark Corners! When I got an email that this was available, I was so excited. I’ve loved every book of Goldin’s that I’d read, and I was so pumped to get to hear more of Rachel’s story.
Rachel Krall, famous podcaster of Guilty or Not Guilty, is called to Florida by the FBI to help out with a case. What she doesn’t know is that she’s been named in the investigation, and the FBI want to know why. An influencer goes missing after visiting a prisoner that is a suspected serial killer.
This book kept me hooked from the beginning, like all of Megan Goldin’s books do for me. I loved this book, and I hope we get more Rachel Krall in the future!

I absolutely loved this book and was so thrilled to have the opportunity to read and review early - thank you! Like other Megan Goldin books, this did not disappoint. I did not see the twist coming at all!! I can’t wait to recommend this to my friends in August!

Dark Corners was a bit of a miss for me in that the characters were unrelatable and there were several story lines occurring at times with little indication of switching between them. I just wasn't a big fan of this book, although I did like the influencer aspect, finding that world interesting and totally different from what I would expect.

Megan Goldin does it again! Another thrilling page turner that keeps you wondering until the very end! The story is about a social media influencer goes missing and how the disappearance might be connected to a man behind bar accused of serial murders. This book is a quick read basically because Goldin writes so smoothly and really knows how to get the readers attention from the get-go. This is the second in the Rachel Krall series and I think it was a great follow up! I thought the ending was a little abrupt, and at points I was a little confused at the timeline of events. The story jumps from present to six years ago. I think it may have been beneficial for the title chapters to include the time frame, but you just have to pay attention. I really hope there will be more books in the Rachel Krall series as I like her character and definitely love the storylines! Thank you so much Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the ARC of Dark Corners..

The famous true crime podcaster Rachel Krall is back! After being rushed to Florida with little information, Rachel finds herself interviewing a suspected killer who is days away from release. Dark Corners wastes no time plunging readers into the world of influencers, kidnappings, and murder.
This book is a page turning thriller with some interesting characters. I know some people are not going to love the social influencer angle but I found it interesting to see the world throught their eyes. Great moments of intrigue and suspense.
I want to thank NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and the author Megan Goldin for a copy of the book inexchange for an honest review!

I was a huge fan of The Night Swim, and was excited to see Goldin coming out with another thriller with Rachel Krall at the center.
I enjoyed the Night Swim a bit more and the more focal aspect of the podcast in that one versus the small snippets in this one. I thought this was fast paced and engaging, but a little more scattered with multiple threads to follow and keep up with between the characters/ disappearances/ multiple twists and red herrings thrown in.
Still a much better/ cohesive thriller than many I’ve read recently! I’d be happy to see a Rachel Krall #3!

I am so beyond grateful that I received an ARC of this. Unfortunately, I'm having such a hard time enjoying it. I've tried to get through it several times, but I guess I'm just not liking any of the characters and can't seem to get into the writing.

Overall, I’d give this book a 6/10. There are four plus different story lines, which make it pretty hard to follow in the beginning. I didn’t like how the headers were just chapter numbers. They didn’t give you any insight into the time, location or character. I’m assuming some of the chapters were podcast episodes, but that wasn’t specifically called out either. I do want to add that this is an advanced copy and very well could be fixed in the finished/published version. If so, this would definitely help reduce some of the confusion.
In regards to the actual plot, I was hooked by the end and definitely wanted to find out how all of the characters were tied together. There were some loose ends and far fetched parts of the story that I could have gone without, but overall I did enjoy the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing this digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you @netgalley for my ARC of Dark Corners by Megan Goldin.

I loved Stay Awake by Megan Goldin and read a bunch of her books after that. Dark Corners was good, but didn't quite measure up to that book. It is the second book in the Rachel Krall series, but can be read as a standalone. It was fast paced and entertaining, but It was also lacking in some details that made it seem rushed. I will keep reading books by this author and am looking forward to the next one.

I had such a good time with this book! It felt like I was watching a tv show and I was flying through it. I enjoyed the social media/ influencer aspect of this story and really enjoyed how it all played out. A great mystery and I can't wait to read more by Megan Goldin.

Goldin’s books are usually a hit or miss for me and this one was a miss.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Night Swim and was excited that I had the opportunity to read another book with Rachel casted as the MC. However, the Rachel in this book was rude, immature, snarky, arrogant, etc.. totally different than the Rachel I grew to love in The Night Swim.
I was also disappointed that her podcast “Guilty or Not Guilty” wasn’t featured in this book.
The book also heavily centers around “influencers” and I just wasn’t a fan of that. It felt like the author was just trying to keep up with the times and write about things that are relevant in social media nowadays.
I’m aware that this may also just be a preference thing. Overall, it was just an okay book.

𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖: Terrance Bailey is about to be released from prison & the FBI is not happy that a serial killer will be back in the streets. But what does Terrance Bailey want to do with Rachel Krall?
𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒: I have come to really enjoy Megan Goldin's books. I loved the Night Swin and was so excited we got more of Rachel Krall in this one. While this is the second book in a series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone. Even though it was easy to know who the killer was in this one (only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5) it was still so full of twists and turns and new information that I was completely hooked! There are also some switches in POV as well as sections of a podcast explaining some things in more details to the reader. I definitely recommend.
𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆: really liked it!
*Special thank you to St. Martin's Press, NetGalley, and Megan Goldin for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Do you like true crime, tv, podcasts, or books?
I love a good true crime tv show, book and podcasts. I’m all for it!
Terence is about to be released from prison for breaking and entering but authorities have always thought he was a murder. When he gets a visit from a social media influencer, and she soon goes missing, police suspect shes been kidnapped. When the FBI hits a wall they call Rachel Krall for help finding the influencer. As Rachel digs in, she finds the social media community is not as welcoming as it would appear. When evidence surfaces potentially tying Terence to a death, police begin to wonder if he has connections on the outside. Will the FBI and Rachel figure things out before more people go missing or turn up dead?
I loved The Night Swim, so when I heard that there was going to be a second book following true crime podcaster Rachel Krall, I knew I had to read it.
This story is told from three storylines. In the beginning it was difficult to keep track, but they did come together. I enjoy reading stories that focus on the negative side of social media. It makes me happy the book community is so great, and I have personally made some great friends here.
I didn’t quite enjoy this one as much as I did The Night Swim, but it was still a fun story. There were some parts that I felt were included but didn’t really add to the story. I did enjoy the further development of Rachel’s character, and the romance sub plot was fun for me. If there is a third book in this installment I will for sure read it as I’m a huge Megan Goldin fan. Her books are always great reads for me.
Check out this amazing thriller on August 8th.
Thank you to the publisher St Martin’s Press, @stmartinspress, and Netgalley @netgalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.25/5 I was super excited to start Dark Corners after loving The Night Swim a few years ago. This time, Rachel Krall is lured into a multi-faceted investigation in Florida by FBI agent Joe Martinez, but no one really knows how Rachel fits into the puzzle. At first, I did have a bit of a hard time getting into the story, because it seemed like the chapters were a bit jumpy and all over the place. That being said, once I got a little farther into it, I was hooked. Megan Goldin has a way of drawing me in, even if I have some of the pieces figured out. I did find that the influencer bits at the center of the story did become a bit mundane, and while the writing was a bit repetitive at times, I really enjoyed this story and was drawn into it. I recommend picking this one up if you enjoy an interwoven story that preys on your fear of other people, because after all, “the scariest monster is the one that hides in plain sight.”
Thank you to Megan Goldin, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review. This book is due to be published on August 8, 2023.
