What a humorous way to learn more about animals and their behaviour. The title will capture even a reluctant reader. However, the photos and descriptions will keep them laughing and involved. Definitely a book I will be buying and recommending.

Thank you @netgalley, @sourcebooksforkids, and @karilavellewrites for the opportunity to read and review this book.

❓ Here is another fun and informative book for kids!

❓ The whole premise here is to look at a close-up picture of a part of an animal, fish, or other living creature, and decide whether you are looking at the face or the butt. It is hilarious and maybe a little gross in equal measure! 😊

❓ While the guessing game is a blast, each page also includes great facts about the creatures as well - how they live, where they live, what they eat, and other interesting information.

❓ I adore books that are informative and fun, and this one hits the mark perfectly! The interactive nature of the book will be a huge hit with kids and adults alike! This would be a great book for a classroom activity!

❓This book is 40 pages long and targeted to children ages 4 to 8 years old.

❓ Parents and teachers should put this on their list now! It will be available 11 July 2023.

Thank you @netgalley and @sourcebookskids for an eARC of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This book was adorable and so funny. I loved that it is an interactive book so it really helps to engage the reader in the material. I read this with my 6 year old who absolutely loved it! I could see this book being a big hit in an elementary or preschool!

Thanks to NetGalley for letting me peek at an advanced copy of the book!

A little bit hysterical + a little bit gross + a lot of facts that might surprise and delight readers = a nonfiction book that's sure to entertain and educate (whether it is read individually or read out loud to the whole class.) This book will be a favorite and probably will have a very long hold list! I could see it being a fun, interactive read aloud. I can already here the shouts of "butt", & "face" that will prompt the question "what's going on in the library?" This is definitely the way to get kids to read even more nonfiction. Looking forward to sharing it with other readers.

I absolutely love this book!!
I requested to review this book purely on its cover and was so surprised that it wasn't just a silly fiction book... but instead it was a captivating, engaging and informative nonfiction book! The premise of guessing whether it's an animal's face or butt, as a way to engage young readers in the biology and the adaptations of animals, is total genius! As a teacher, this would be a fantastic way to introduce a class to a biology unit on animal adaptations. I've taught this unit to 10-11 year old and they would adore this book.
The nonfiction elements of the book were fantastic. I love the 'where they rest their butts/what goes in their faces' chart and the world map identifying the location of each animal. Both would be fantastic for a young readers and as an educational aide if the book was used as a lesson resource.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read and review this book. I'll definitely be purchasing a hard copy upon its release!

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC! Here’s my voluntary review:

I teach biology and this is the perfect addition to our ecology unit! It’s silly and fun and definitely engaging. I love the key at the back on where these creatures rest their butts and what they put in their faces. It’s so clever! Makes me want to stick googly eyes on everything.

For the kid with a sense of humor and uses that humor to learn interesting facts. It is a little quirky and I am sure there will be giggles on learning what is a butt or what is the face. A photo asks a question butt or face. You will be surprised and learn a few things about the animal kingdom. So for that quirky family, you will have fun.

A special thank you to Sourcebooks and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I really enjoyed this engaging, informational book. The guessing game aspect of butt or fave really kept my interest and added a layer of fun. It was extremely informational with vibrant photos of the objects. There were bits of facts that were easily digestible. I really like the table in the back with facts about the butts and faces of the animals/insects found in the text. The introduction was also engaging and could be used as part of a lesson. The format of the book would be perfect to use with graphic organizers, text evidence, and a variety of classroom lessons. The text is simple yet complex enough to engage readers of multiple ages. The ability to turn the book into a game of “butt or face” is an excellent hook to get kids and adults to read it together.

Absolutely LOVED this one. I read it with my 4 year old. He loved the real-life photos, the bright text boxes that separated various facts about each creature, and the bonus at the end!

This book’s layout was perfect for a 4-year old and beyond to understand. The fact it was treated as a game of face or butt, then revealed on the following page, added to the fun of the book.

Finally, the inclusion of some unique animals was my favorite part as the adult! You often see regular types of animals in these nonfiction books, so to have a source for unusual animals in a nonfiction book made for it being one of my top choices for nonfiction!

Thank you for the opportunity to review - I honestly hope this becomes a series!

Super fun non-fiction. Kids will love the guessing game quiz show style. Will be a hit at story times and programs.

Can YOU tell a butt from a face?
You get to test your guessing talent after viewing a close up photo in this book!

Once I saw the cover, I knew I had to read it! This book is hilariously silly and fun! After the reveal, several fun and interesting facts are shared about a unique critter. I can definitely see this as being a favorite bedtime and classroom read and I’m confidant adults will enjoy it just as much or even more than the children they’re reading to. Please get this book and then share the responses!

I knew as soon as I read the title of this book that my young boys would love it. We all thought it was hilarious to learn if our "butt or face" guesses were right for each creature. After the reveal, you get educational little factoids
that we also enjoyed. This would be the perfect addition to a playroom or classroom full early readers.

Be sure to check out the author's note at the end for how the idea of the book came to be. Super interesting!

Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Kids for allowing me to be an early reader. All opinions are my own.

This is such a fun idea for a book! It’s very engaging and requires your child to guess whether they are seeing a butt or a face. When they turn the page the answer is revealed along with a few facts about the animal. My daughter absolutely loved it and has asked to read it multiple times. Just a warning, if you aren’t a big fan of spiders there are 2 in this book!

My 9 year old son thought it was funny to guess if it was a butt or a face. He liked that it was unexpected animals. It showed some new to him animals too. He liked the introduction to the story too. As a teacher I thought it was a great book to use for a small group. I loved that it also gave facts about the animals with a real picture to go with it.

I love an educational text with a good hook, and BUTTS OR FACE certainly has that hook. As a former elementary school teacher, I wish I had this book during all of my nature units. This would also pair well with center activities, matching cards, and more. This book made me giggle and I had fun trying to guess myself!

This book was amazing, and will absolutely fly off the shelves of an elementary school library! Nonfiction texts for this age group tend to veer into way-too-simplistic or extremely-dense-text-and-challenging-vocabulary, and this title absolutely nails the sweet spot of readability. I’ll definitely be ordering copies for our shelves!

Such a cute book! I had never heard of any of those animals and learned a ton! The book was laid out really well and with colors that will appeal to kids. Descriptions were kept short and easy to read. Additional info in the back was a good touch!

This book is so silly and great fun. When I was a kid, “butt” was a no no word, but I think we’re moving past it these days. A couple of these fooled me! I think a kid would find this to be quite a giggle, with some secret learning in there too.

I read this with my 9 year old son and he LOVED it. It's perfect for this age since they're into potty humor but this is actually informative. He was fascinated by the creatures he had never heard of. He highly recommends it for kids his age and I think his opinion probably matters more than mine in cases like this.
