This was a sweet Holiday novella. I’m a sucker for a Holiday-themed read. The added element of the mail man was adorable and I really enjoyed the story.

Resting Scrooge Face was the perfect holiday binge novella. I loved the second chance trope and think it was perfect for such a short read. One of my least favorite tropes is instalove which can make a lot of novellas not my favorite so second chance is perfect since there is already history there.

***3 Stars***

This was a fun read about two people finding their way back to each other via a very unique and interesting way with a dash of small town resident interference. Could I have done with a little more from Nola and Caleb? Of course, but it made me smile and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters

I really enjoyed this story. The enemies to lovers made it that much more enjoyable. The mailman connecting them together was awesome. It was a great short Christmas read.

I need to learn not to get my hopes up. This was a cute novella, fast paced not much into character development which is a hit or miss when it comes to novella's. It leaves you wanting to know more about the characters. It's a fun holiday audiobook for when you are decorating or want to get into the holiday mood.

A cute holiday novella! I really liked the characters and thought the concept of them reconnecting through anonymous letters was fun! I would have enjoyed a little more of their story, but still a great read!

This was a fun Christmas novella. This one had all the Hallmark vibes. No steam and very quick story.. I would have liked to get a little more of the characters together, but for a novella it was cute.

Meghan Quinn writes an adorable festive rom-com with oodles of charm, set in a snowy and picturesque location in Maine. Nola Bisley has returned to her home, Bright Harbor, with a frozen heart after the break up of her relationship with Chris, she is certainly in no mood to appreciate the festive period bursting with Christmas cheer. Caleb Butler, working at his hardware store, is feeling lonely and frustrated, forseeing little but misery in his future, his hostility to the Christmas season is expressed in writing where he refers to himself as Resting Scrooge Face. As a younger man, Caleb had broken Nola's heart when she had left for New York, but he is a haunted man, filled with regrets over ghosts of the past.

3.5 Rounded Up.

I received a reviewer copy of the short story Resting Scrooge Face by Meghan Quinn from the publisher Amazon Original Stories from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

What It’s About: Nola has just suffered a rough break up and finds herself coming back to her small hometown of Bright Harbor, Maine for Christmas but she's not in the holiday spirit. Also not in the holiday spirit? Caleb, the man who broke her heart years ago and is still living in town. When trying to avoid him she runs in to the local mailman who gives her a letter from a fellow Scrooge. These new pen pals connect and start healing herself and their hearts start opening to each other. But unbeknownst to either, Caleb is the pen pal.

What I Loved: This book had such a fun premise and if you could send some disbelief of this being secret, you will truly enjoy this story. I loved reading this story and found the chemistry between these two fun. I loved the unknown pen-pals who are Christmas grumps. I really thought this was a creative and could have been a full blown book where we got to expand the story and get to know the town

What I didn’t like so much: I thought the hatred (enemies to lovers) of each other was a bit much and seemed unnecessary, the book would be successful with just second chance trope. I wanted to escape to Maine and this book didn't feel like New England to me.

Who Should Read It: People who want a quick and fun read with a unique concept in their romance.

Summary: Two holiday grumps become penpals and find connection.

I chose this short novella to start off my Christmas holiday reading and it was a fun read. The title Resting Scrooge Face cracked me up - and of course that fact that it was written by Meghan Quinn was a huge plus as she always brings the laughs. I loved the epistolary element and having Nola and Caleb as secret pen pals made it even more fun - especially since these characters thought they were enemies, but related to each other in many ways.

Resting Scrooge Face was an enjoyable read and a great way to kick off my holiday reading. As always, I'm looking forward to my next Meghan Quinn book.

Super quick read! Surprised at the lack of spice, given what I’m used to with this author. But otherwise overall a fun palate cleanser kind of novella!

A great holiday novella for the season!

You all know I love anything Meghan Quinn writes, and this cute story was no exception. She gave us a second chance romance filled with anonymous letter writing, a fairy godfather-like mailman, and two characters with a lot of chemistry who just needed to get past the, well, past.

I loved the element of laying your heart out for a stranger in a letter, only to later find out it’s the very person who once knew you better than anyone else…and somehow manages to know you just as well years later.

Two people brought together by the holiday season – even if one is blatantly against the holiday. Maybe it’s fate…maybe it’s mistletoe! You’ll have to read to find out.

Tropes:
🎄holiday novella
🎄second chance romance
🎄enemies to lovers
🎄it’s always been you vibes
🎄small town

if you’re looking to get one more holiday read in before the new year, then this super short novella is for you!

it’s second chance romance.
it’s anonymous pen pals.
it’s the local grinches falling back in love with the holidays (and maybe each other? 👀)

this story is super fast paced, but that’s pretty inevitable when a book is less than 100 pages.

all in all, it was an adorable, light hearted holiday read straight out of a hallmark christmas movie, which we all know is my jam.

thank you to netgalley, amazon, and meghan quinn for my advanced copy 🤍

Nola flees New York City and back to her small hometown in Maine in the aftermath of a bad break up, but her town’s cheery Christmas spirit is not the thing she is looking forward to this holiday season. Nola’s luck only seems to worsen when she runs into Caleb, the boy who broke her heart years ago. However, Nola receives an anonymous letter addressed to Christmas by someone with a similar outlook on the holiday season as hers and addresses himself as “Resting Scrooge Face”. Nola and Resting Scrooge Face continue their banter through correspondence as she identifies herself as “Ho Ho No” on her end to remain anonymous as well. The more time she spends around Caleb and the more time she spends writing to her fellow scrooge pen pal, she begins to realize things are not always as they seam and the key to her happiness could be right in front of her.

This was a super cute holiday novella that warmed my heart. It was VERY quick but flowed effortlessly and was packed with Christmas spirit. I loved the banter between Nola and Caleb and how their story comes full circle. The dialogue was great and the story was sprinkled with humor throughout and even a little Christmas magic. I have actually never read any books by this author before but she is now on my list! This book was a perfect taste into her writing style and I really enjoyed it! This story is perfect for those in the mood for a quick holiday second chance romance. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this novella in exchange for my honest review. This title is now available for purchase or free with Kindle Unlimited!

A cute and very quick Christmas read. While enjoyable it was too short to develop the characters and had a predictable plot. I liked it but will not be reading it again next holiday season.
