I had conflicted feelings about this book. It reminded me of Black Sheep by Brynne Weaver because of the sassy MC and the female serial killer, but I think this book needed just a bit more tweaking. I thought this book really hit home about the dangerous situations women face in their day-to-day lives, and I thought the situations were relatable. This book also has quite a few trigger warnings that I think should have been listed at the beginning, especially with the way some of these topics were discussed in the story. I was enjoying the book until maybe the halfway point, and then I just started feeling uncomfortable because of how these dark topics, like the miscarriage and sexual assault, were being handled. i think the author could have taken a bit more care regarding the miscarriage, because I felt this was a bit unnecessary. The plot didn’t seem very realistic regarding the murders, because with the way Kitty was doing things, I’m surprised she wasn’t discovered sooner. Also, the way she disposed of the bodies was a bit unnerving, especially because she didn’t separate the human meat from the animal meat. I thought Kitty came across as a bit entitled, so I wasn’t a huge fan of her and wasn’t really rooting for her by the end. Overall, this book does have the potential to be great, but I don’t think it was for me.

This was just an okay read for me - I expected so much more! I was bored - and annoyed with the over the top and unrealistic storyline. If you push it, the story could be symbolic - but then it would not always make sense. A disappointing read.

I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.

Kitty Collins is a socialite with an addiction for revenge against the worst types of men: r@pists & power-hungry sh!ts.

While the themes of this book are dark and grotesque, it is stunningly hilarious. The comedy allows you to make your way through what is a horrifyingly heavy topic in a smooth and enjoyable way. You get second hand comfort from the revenge Kitty delivers, because most of us females in the world have (either personally or through a friend) had some sort of experience that relates to those in the book.

In a world that turns a blind eye to powerful men and facilitates toxic culture, Katy Brent airs it all out and yells about it from the roof tops. The “holding your keys between your fingers when walking home at night” or sending friends your location to let them know you made it home safe. Little moments that we are so accustomed to that we don’t even realize how effed up it is that we need to do them in the first place.

This book may be a comedy, but the sad part is that none of it is false. These things happen, and they happen on a daily basis all around the world. Brilliant novel, loved it a lot!!

Kitty Collins is an influencer from a rich family and has a lot of free time. Time she sometimes uses to kill men who have hurt women. It starts accidentally and then spirals from there. This was a dark read, obviously trigger warnings for blood, death, SA and discussions about that, and a few others. It’s also pretty funny considering the subject matter so not overly heavy either.
I love a revenge serial killer trope so this one was good but it did lose my interest a touch in the middle. Also not sure the romance was particularly needed but it did lighten the story.

This was a wild ride. It was a cool story but I really did not enjoy Kitty's character. She was a lot so being in her head was a bit much for me. Also I didn't love the twist? I'm very conflicted about this one but I want to check out more from katy Brent to see if it develops.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.

Well, this 'feminist Dexter' was a highly entertaining and fast read. Definitely read the trigger warnings before starting this, as it deals with rape, abuse, harassment, stalking. etc. but Kitty definitely gets vengeance on these monsters, lol! I like that it wasn't overly gory or descriptive in the moment of what she was doing. There were some twists, which I did suspect but that's ok. This was also pretty funny. Overall a good fast read, not sure I'd read it again but I know some scenes are going to stick with me for a while (boat scene, I'm looking at you lol)

This is a dark comedy, about kitty who is a big Influencer in london. But she is keeping a few secrets of her own, when she starts killing the creeps of the world. And all things are going well for her intill they aren’t anymore with a new relationship on the horizon, a stalker watching her every move and a big mistake that might cost her everything. I thought overall this was a good read there was a few things that made my stomach turn a little bit, like the details about how she got rid of the bodies she murder. I would of rather a vague description instead of the details we got. I also thought the mistake she made was awful and as much as I wanted to like kitty I felt like she little unlikable and I found it hard to root for her. But this was so funny at times! And had so many twist and turns and the ending really got me! Over all I think this is a sold dark comedy!

A bit reminiscent in tone to Bella Mackie’s How to Kill Your Family, this novel follows Kitty Collins - an Instagram influencer and secret vigilante. She’s essentially Dexter - gruesomely taking care of men who harm and abuse women.

Like Dexter, some of the descriptions could get a bit gruesome. The pacing of the story is quick as I flew through this book, but in that way, it also may have rushed or escalated some situations super quickly. I was pleasantly surprised to have been wrong where I thought one plot point was going from the beginning. And totally shocked about another moment too! (No spoilers 🤐)

It’s a bit of a satirical/tongue-in-cheek commentary on influencer culture, with a feminist edge of seeking justice against predators.

Thank you Harper Collins for the review copy!

‘A MUST-READ for fans of dark fiction!’ Readers First ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘There’s a new serial killer in town’ Readers First ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Meet Kitty Collins. FRIEND. LOVER. KILLER. He was following me. That guy from the nightclub who wouldn’t leave me alone.

Well this was super fun. If you're interested in a fun albeit dark revenge fantasy with a truly unreliable narrator this is for you. The world of social media influencers is both fascinating and terrible. The lives of these influencers offers as much horror as the murders that happen throughout. A solid caper.

This is one of those books that has so much potential, but falls a bit flat when it comes to the execution (ha! A pun!)

Kitty Collins is a socialite / influencer who stumbles into a vigilante-adjacent role of killing men who have treated women poorly. She runs amok getting revenge on anyone she thinks deserves, and gets away with it since she’s rich.

There are a few twists and turns throughout the book – one of which I called immediately (the one involving her family for anyone keeping score), but overall this book was a bit of a let down.

I am ALWAYS here for women’s wrongs. And boy does Kitty deliver. I love the female Dexter with an influencer twist. This book was so much fun. I loved Kitty’s thought processes and how she tried to make everything seem like it is okay. She is such a sociopath and I weirdly loved her.

Also Charlie was so sweet but I would have loved it if he found out about Kitty’s hobbies.

I loved this book!!! Yes there were some minor plot holes, but so far this is the closest thing I've found to one of my favourite books "Sweetpea" (by CJ Skuse)! Loved the dark humour, the sarcasm, the title (obviously, ha!). Definitely going to have to buy a physical copy for my collection!

Kitty Collins is a social media influencer and an heiress to her family’s abattoir. One night after leaving a club with her friends, a guy from the club follows her home. He’s angry that she rejected him, and he dies in a freak accident. Now that Kitty’s had a taste of revenge, she wants to avenge every girl who’s been attacked by a guy. Kitty goes searching for the awful men who target young women on dating apps, but when she takes it too far, she has to be careful that she doesn’t get caught.

This was such a fun and twisty story. I’m sure almost every woman has had an interaction with a man that made her uncomfortable, or worse. Kitty specifically targeted the men who were preying on women, and she used creative ways of disposing of them. By killing these men, she was saving many women from being attacked by them in the future. She was carrying out justice, though if she got caught, she would be in trouble. Even though she had become a serial killer, I kept hoping that she wouldn’t get caught, because she was really helping all women who could potentially be attacked by these men.

How to Kill Men and Get Away With It is a funny and suspenseful thriller!

Thank you HarperCollins Canada for providing a digital copy of this book.

Content warnings: murder, rape (off page and described), assault, animal abuse, animal death, slaughterhouse, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, drug overdose

DNF'd at 30%

Oyvé... I'm starting to wonder if the problem is me after two nearly-consecutive DNFs!

Kitty is upper class crust of the modern variety; she's built her empire thanks to social media. She, along with everyone in her circle, are as filthy rich, disingenuine, and vain as the platforms she dabbles with.

On top of having the personality of a stale, middle aged, woe-is-me biscuit (even though she's apparently in her late 20s?), she's also a serial killer. And honestly, none of it is remotely fun because of how horribly unsurprising she is as a character. A high echelon brat, miserable with the fake life she lives, and so bat shit crazy she decides to start killing her and her friends' bad dates because... Well, she certainly isn't going to talk her feelings through, because who does that in 2023?

I felt her judgements went beyond hypocrisy and simply could not bring myself to care about anyone that was introduced.

Big thanks to Harper Collins for this free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

How to Kill Men and Get Away With It is Katy Brent's debut novel.

The title of the book gives you a pretty good idea of what the plot might entail. And this short quote from the publisher says it all...

"He was following me. That guy from the nightclub who wouldn’t leave me alone. I hadn’t intended to kill him of course. But I wasn’t displeased when I did and, despite the mess I made, I appeared to get away with it.

That’s where my addiction started…I’ve got a taste for revenge and quite frankly, I’m killing it.” Uh huh, this isn't a one time thing.

Kitty is our protagonist. She’s an influencer with a wealth of followers. Her inner dialogue is sharp and biting and darkly humorous at times. Her cadre consists of other wealthy influencers - with fewer followers, of course.

Kitty forms her own sense of justice and revenge, making herself judge and jury. Until she makes a mistake. But it’s hard to not see why she’s doing what she does. Lots of food for thought.

I think I went into this book expecting more of a lighter Finley Donovan vibe. This one instead got a little bit too dark for me. Closer to Dexter instead. Kitty delights in killing and her disposal methods. Kitty has some issues herself beyond her penchant for killing.

I'm not sure if the author was going for dark humour, satire or a blend? I finished the book, but felt it was too much in a number of ways for me.

I am in the minority for this title - I encourage you to check out the five star reviews on Goodreads.

See for yourself - read an excerpt of How To Kill Men and Get Away With It. There will be some triggers for gentle readers.

I really truly wished I had a physical copy of this book especially when reading in public! I wanted to watch people's reactions to this cover/title combo. Which is precisely the reason (or two) I jumped at the chance to read this one. It was quirky, fun, slightly satirical and it did require quite a bit of suspending of belief.

First of all as a huge fan of film noir I truly appreciate the nod to the genre by naming the main protagonist Kitty Collins (if you've never seen The Killers starring timeless Ava Gardner, do yourself a favor and correct that oversight pronto). Kitty is a vegan heir to a meat empire, financially quite comfortable and focusing her energy on constantly curating content for her influencer account and hanging out with a group of also wealthy (female) influencers with significant following. (in their circle numbers definitely matter) This fame comes with a side of an online stalker. Accidental death of a guy who tried to sexually assault her "inspires" Kitty to start doling out her own justice to guys who cross a certain line.

As far as entitled, sarcastic serial killers go, Kitty was surprisingly likeable. (granted not all the time) I was quite entertained by her inner monologue and sarcasm that often accompanied her justifications for her actions. I also really enjoyed the potential romance side story. Just a heads up, plot requires you to assume that Kitty is consistently extremely lucky and physically capable of some intense stuff. I came across some comments about people being annoyed by the vegan part of her lifestyle - personally I found it kind of amusing that someone so caring towards animals is going around casually murdering humans. The part that bothered me a bit was the level of emotional response she shows (for example intense guilt) that was kind of really hard to reconcile with the cold detachment she has towards murder. (also, not very psychopathic of her)

Overall, this was a quick, slightly offbeat, entertaining read for me. Definitely a beach read material. And considering how popular psycho female character novels have been, I have feeling this one will appeal to quite a few of those readers.

Grateful to NetGalley and HarperCollins Canada for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for Katy Brent's future releases!

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews about this book, so I was a bit nervous going into it. I love the cover and with a title like this one it’s bound to catch some attention, but that doesn’t mean it will necessarily be any good.

Either way, I ended up really enjoying this one! It was sort of a light thriller meets drama meets humour, but it also covered some important topics. I loved how the author was able to balance so many things.

Kitty was such an interesting MC! There’s definitely something wrong with her, but yet you end up rooting for her a bit. I really liked her (for the most part). I want to say she was morally grey, but she’s not really. The woman is flat-out crazy.

I was also so happy because I didn’t see the twist coming! It’s always so fun reading a book and not being able to predict what’s going to happen.

Thank you to HarperCollins Canada for my gifted copy!
