Awesome book.
Therapist and struggling author Betty Lou Abbott has a secret, one she keeps locked in the basement of the historic mansion she inherited from her late husband. Her fiancé, Ian, also has a secret: he is having an affair with one of Betty Lou’s clients. She thinks so, anyway. As Betty Lou’s life becomes intertwined with the beautiful, successful Carmen Marquis, her intention to expose the affair turns into a dangerous obsession. Especially when she learns there is more to Carmen than meets the eye. Caught in the middle of this cunning pair of women is Nicholas Stahl, a crooked detective who is determined to prove the truth—that one of them is a cold-blooded killer.
It was quite a different read than other books.

An interesting beginning to this series that will keep you guessing until the end. Is she a loving wife, an author or a psychopath or maybe all three? Betty Lou Abbott aka “Betts” provides illegal counseling at her home as she explains her thoughts about her life to the reader. She has plans to write a book, but you soon become aware that she is a deeply troubled woman. Detective Nicholas Stahl stops by often and he reminds her of the television show detective Columbo. Is he as smart as Columbo as he continues to question the cause of death for her husband? Did Jack die of natural causes and why wasn’t an autopsy performed? Jack was buried although Betts had wanted him cremated. Why? Now engaged to be married, Betts life continues to spiral out of control. What will happen next? this was a really well done thriller novel and a great start to the Narrative of a Mad Woman series. I was invested in what was going on during the story. It had a great plot going on and did what I was looking for when reading this. The characters did a great job in working as a real person and I enjoyed getting to know them. I can't wait to read more in the Narrative of a Mad Woman series and from the author.

"My steps are light, my stride confident as I emerge from the safety of the woods and step into the open. The shoreline is vacant of people, the sand broken up only by a sporadic clump of reeds, bent against the rain as if bowing their heads in defeat. The salty, briny smell is so strong you can taste it."

THE WIDOW OF WEEPING PINES is a darkly compelling psychological tale. The darkness lies not only in the storytelling but in the atmosphere that weaves throughout the story. From the very beginning, you begin to sense the intriguing questions that surround each character as you start to wonder what their secrets are. As the story unfolds, secrets are revealed, and you are pulled deeper and deeper into the fast-paced narrative. Although this does move at a lightning pace, you can easily keep up, and just when you think you can predict what’s going to happen next, BAM, a very unexpected twist and then a more surprising ending. This is not your typical romantic suspense; it is so much more than that. This will surely capture your attention in ways you may not expect and keep you completely enthralled until the jaw-dropping end. Trust me, you are going to want to read this one. Brava, Ms. M, job extremely well done!!

This book took a hold of me from the VERY first sentence and didn’t let go of it’s grip the entire time. The story of The Widow Of Weeping Pines follows our main character Betty Lou (or Betts) after the loss of her husband. When she suspects her new fiancé of cheating on her and the deputy sheriff of Weeping Pines suspects Betts of having something to do with her husbands death, she takes matters into her own hands.

This story confused me in the best of ways. Every character seemed to be at some sort of level of fucked up, but I couldn’t figure out their involvement until the very end. This book kept me guessing the whole way through, and I have sooo many highlights throughout with notes like “WTF” and “is this a clue?!” I loved the internal monologue of both points of view and there were very definitive differences in the characters. This one had me sitting on the edge of my seat the whole way through. EASY 5 star read for me and I cannot wait to read more from this author!

An easy to read novella with lots of thrills! Betts is a widow and a new fiancee. However, she has a big secret. She also is convinced her fiancé is cheating on her with one of her clients. As she becomes obsessed with this client and finding the truth, she finds out there is more to her as well.
