Quite the little psychological thriller this one. I absolutely will be adding this series to my TBR.
I was hooked the first chapter and remained invested the whole way through. This novella is written as a multi-timeline and limited dual-perspective view that I consumed in one sitting. Mostly told from our Main Character “Betts” (with a few random but important chapters from the Detective) we go go one heck of a dark ride.
The story slowly unfurls and leaves you questioning EVERYTHING. I could NOT for the life of me pin down this story (my favorite kind of read). I was surprised more than once and the mystery level was perfection. Not really heart thumping or breathe faster- kind of thriller, but a definite mind bender.
Heads up on the adult language and minor spicy 🌶️ scenes if you’re uncomfortable with reading this. I found it to be a minute amount so it didn’t detract from the story for me.

Well that was interesting… disturbing on many levels, though. If a town could have as many psychos in it as possible, this would apparently be it. It felt like a little too far fetched at times and hard to believe, the way it ended up, and not a little like the worst of humanity ended up in the same place. But it had me guessing nonetheless.
Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy of the book. All opinions are mine.

This was a quick, fun read. Betty Lou’s husband, Jack, dies and she is left in a town she hates. She gets engaged and starts and illegal clinic in her basement, but is Betts really the crazy one? As she tries to figure out if her fiancé is having an affair, or if the detective is really out to get her, her life gets out of control.

I devoured this fast-paced read. The main character Betts was relatable, despite her many issues. I loved the twist at the end, and instantly needed more once it was over. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.

A super fast read because you cannot put it down, not just because it’s short. The opening sentence “Sometimes I wish my husband would die” reels you in from the get go.
The character list is small and dynamic but the book is really all about Betts. Betty Lou Abbot is full of herself, a little crazy, running an illegal office in her house and on the radar of the local detective. She is convinced her dentist fiancé is having an affair with a client and he is less than wonderful as a human but she tolerates him in spite of it all. As I said…….lots of craziness going on which makes it wildly enjoyable.

This book had my head spinning. It definitely left me wondering what was going on for most of the story and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
You come into Betty Lou's life shortly after her husband dies. You realize soon that his death is a bit mysterious and you begin to wonder what happened. Did he really die of a heart attack? Who can you trust? I didn't know until the very end, and those are the best thrillers.

The Widow of Weeping Pines was a fast paced and suspenseful read. I was immediately pulled into the story. The MC was slightly unlikeable but I felt myself rooting for her at the same time. I enjoyed the unreliable narrator and misdirection throughout the story.
There was a twist near the end that was somewhat hard to believe and I had a little confusion about the ending but overall I really enjoyed the story and can’t wait to read more by Amanda McKinney.
I will be posting this review on Instagram, Goodreads and Amazon.

Widow of Whispering Pines is one of the more interesting books I have read for a while. Told in different perspectives, it is about a woman, Betts, who is moving on with her life after her husband’s heart attack. Nickolas is a detective out to prove that she murdered her husband for the money. Enter Carmen, who Betts believes is having an affair with her fiancé. Four people – four different stories - which one is telling the truth. This author does a stand up job on character and plot development, and the ending was totally unexpected. Excellent read. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Fast and easy read that had me from page one. I enjoyed the twists and turns and the writing style. Not my favourite thriller but i still really enjoyed.

This was such a quick read, I loved how fast paced it was. I certainly did not see the twist coming at the end. This book will have you on the edge of your seat. I do wish we had some more information on the MC's mental health background.

Nowwwww, welllllll ok then.
This book was extremely fast paced, considering it’s technically 155 pages. Probably the shortest novel i have ever read. I enjoyed the thrill it gave me. I also very much enjoyed the fact that this is not a book you can aimlessly read, it requires memorization and true following. That’s my favorite part, i must say. The book went up and down in good AND bad ways. It felt rushed, some of the “cliffhangers” were literally a porch step down. Other “cliffhangers” were definitely a leap, hop, skip, back hand spring off the edge and it was goooood. I also have questions that i presume will be answered in the series to follow, which i am willing to try. So overall it was not a bad read.
I rated this 3 stars because of the length, the rushed feel, & the sense of incompleteness. I understand that this was the beginning of a series this author is in the process of completing, but i feel like more could have been said to not leave us with so many questions that might go unanswered.

Wow. What did I just read? The Widow of Weeping Pines is an extremely fast-paced read. It's novella length and certainly packs a lot in such a short book. It was crazy and bizarre, but in a good way. I couldn't put it down and absolutely didn't see that ending coming.
Betts is so obsessive and narcissistic. I knew I shouldn't like her, but I did.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this book and recommend it if you are in the mood for a quick, slightly crazy read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I always love a thriller book, and especially love reading one of these books when the length of the novel, itself, is just the right length. Not too long and not too short. The Widow of Weeping Pines by Amanda McKinney kept me hooked from start to finish and I am so appreciative of my advanced reader access.

This was such a fun, quick and twisty read. I’m still not 100% sure what happened, lol, but I know I liked the author’s writing style and she had me hooked from the first page. Deranged people always make for good reading if you’re into that sort of thing and the author wrote them perfectly!

Wow! I'm not sure exactly what I think of this book and I feel like there are a few parts that need some clarifying, but the ending will knock your socks off. Not at all what I expecting.

Great read, loved the writing style. Enjoyed reading this amazing story. The author gers you hooked from the first chapter.

Thank you to NetGalley and The Book Guild for the ARC of The Widow of Weeping Pines for my honest review.
This novella packs a punch. It is psychological thriller, that I did not want to end. Even though Betts is crazy, I love her! It is fast paced and I did not want to put down. So many twists and turns, and the characters are well developed. Outstanding! This can pull you out of a reading slump. 4.5 stars

I would like to thank NetGallery and the publisher for selecting me and giving me the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy of The Widow of Weeping Pines by Amanda McKinney. This was my first read by this author and it won't be my last. The following is an honest review of the novella.
The novella is a fast paced quick read which I like in books. If a book doesn't grab me from the start, then it is a struggle for me to get thru. There were quite a few twists and turns in this unpredictable page turner which was thought-provoking right from the start. The story was a times dark, but for the most part light and humorous. I won't put any spoilers in my review as I don't like it when I read a review that contains spoilers. The characters were great, the plot believable and it makes you realize just how far someone will go to seek revenge for being scorned.

The Widow of Weeping Pines is a story that is very disturbing and everyone has a secret. Who can you trust? No one seems to be who they really are and we get to go along for the ride to see what is really going on!

The Widow of Weeping Pines
Rating: 3.5⭐
Two women—one crazy, one ill—and both have secrets they would kill for.

This was a wild wild ride.
It was;

Twisted....
With an ending i just didn't see coming.
Looking forward to the others in the series.
