Thank you so much to Sourcebooks Casablanca and Netgalley for letting me read an eARC of The Only Purple House In Town! When I started reading this book, I didn’t realize that this was the 4th book in the Fix-It Witches series, so it was so nice to see little cameos from familiar characters in the book!
The Only Purple House In Town 4/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads: Iris Collins is the messy one in her family. The "chaos bunny." Her sisters are all wildly successful, while she can't balance her budget for a single month. It's no wonder she's in debt to her roommates. When she unexpectedly inherits a house from her great aunt, her plan to turn it into a B&B fails—as most of her plans do. She winds up renting rooms like a Victorian spinster, collecting other lost souls...and not all of them are "human."
Eli Reese grew up as the nerdy outcast in school, but he got rich designing apps. Now he's successful by any standards. But he's never had the same luck in finding a real community or people who understand him. Over the years, he's never forgotten his first crush, so when he spots her at a café, he takes it as a sign. Except then he gets sucked into the Iris-verse and somehow ends up renting one of her B&B rooms. As the days pass, Eli grows enchanted by the misfit boarders staying in the house...and even more so by Iris. Could Eli have finally found a person and a place to call "home"?
The Only Purple House In Town was super cute! I really enjoyed all of the characters- Iris was adorable and I really liked Eli (even though he did have a few, mildly stalker-ish tendencies in him). The whole concept of the B&B turned boarding house for people who need rooms was great and I really liked all of the people who ended up staying in the house. The whole twist with where Iris came from/who her parents were was a little odd/from left field, but was for sure an interesting twist to the book- I haven’t read the 3rd Fix-It Witches book, so maybe if I had, that may not have been so out there for me? Who knows. Overall though, The Only Purple House In Town was a fun, quick read and I definitely enjoyed it!

I sadly had to DNF this one. I adore Ann Aguirre however, this trope bothered me, and I was unable to finish it. I felt the MC was very stalky and I couldn't get over it.

This was the perfect cozy fantasy romance for me. I read this while it was 40 degrees out, which definitely added to the ambiance the author created. The part that I appreciated the most was that while it did have fantasy and romance elements, there was such a strong focus on found family. Every person who moved into the purple house had an amazing personality and was just the right fit for the main characters, Iris and Eli. This story hooked me from the first chapter and I could not put it down until I finished. I would highly recommend this book to all my cozy fantasy friends who also like a touch of romance.

I’m sorry I had to DNF this book.

It doesn’t make sense to me why they need to have magical abilities but those elements did not have any importance in the story. The story could go well without those elements included in it. I tried to find the purpose but it just not it. Maybe if I read the other book in the series I would understand it better? Maybe. But still with reading the couple first chapters I feel like the story is raw.

Maybe if I’m ready enough I would pick it ul again but for now this is my honest review.

Very fun and spooky and charming all at the same time. Love a house-driven story with ghosts, and a quirky main character just trying to figure herself out!

I tried to read this one, but i did not liked how much a stalker the male character is. He made me feel uncomfortable so i could not continue this book. Maybe some other time.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for a copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

This is a cute found family book that takes place in the same world as the Fix-It Witches, but it definitely works as a standalone book. I didn’t realize until well into the book how they were interconnected, and I appreciate that. There were parts about it that concern me a little, but I think that they were mostly trope aspects I am not a fan of. For example, I kind of hate the miscommunication trope and Eli fed into that a bit by not just explaining himself, which started to border on creepy. I appreciate how Iris is quirky and willing to stand up for herself, it just took a minute to get her life in order. Overall it was a fine book, not my favorite by Ann, but definitely an enjoyable escape.

The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre is a delightful story about a young girl by the name of Liana. She loves lived in a town known to have a variety of different colored houses except for one unique house - the Purple House. As Liana discovers her newfound love of color, she also begin to explore the beauty of the town's houses and learns that each house has its own story to tell.

Written with an extraordinary style and keen attention to detail, Ann Aguirre has managed to create a thoroughly refreshing and engaging tale suited for children of all ages. For example, instead of delving into how Liana's passion for color has blossomed, the book uses a highly creative format by pitching her appreciation against the mundane rules of the conservative town she lives in. Using a unique illustration style, the reader is transported into the everyday life of Liana as we observe her newfound love of color and how the townsfolk react to it.

Though the symbolism throughout the story is subtle, its inclusion is a tool that really heightens the narrative as Liana, and the reader, come to realise the importance of expressing your own personal identity. As she grows to love her unique purple house, Liana also comes to realise that despite the rules of the town, it's important for everyone to stay true to their own identity and creativity.

Furthermore, the book also offers a clear message of acceptance and understanding, not only in terms of Liana's newfound appreciation for color but also of the resident's of the town that initially oppose Liana's Purple House. Overall, this book is a must-read for any young reader seeking a gentle read full of colour, music and true heart.

What stands out most from this book is its remarkable writing style. Aguirre succeeds in transporting the reader into the world of Liana while teaching young readers a valuable lesson about individuality and self-expression. With an exemplary writing style and immaculate attention to detail, The Only Purple House in Town is a timeless, delightful story that children of all ages won't be able to put down.

Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

I was immediately drawn into this book by the cover and the spooky season vibes. I will say that, while this is a 3.5 star read for me, I still enjoyed it and would recommend for readers who enjoy cozy fall settings and those who liked the 90s show Sabrina the Teenage Witch!

I understood this to be a romance but it feels more like a cozy fantasy with a romance subplot. As for the romance, I didn’t really feel that much of a connection between Iris and Eli- it feels more like infatuation than love to me.

I did get bored in parts but enjoyed the setting, the inclusivity, the characters and their found family. I didn’t realize this is book 4 in a series BUT think it read just fine as a stand-alone.

Just the cozy found family fantasy read I was needing while I spent the day unwinding with crafts and this audiobook. Listened to it in a single day and I was absorbed right in like I was watching it unfold like a comforting tv drama.

I don’t know what I was expecting going into listening to this audiobook, but I could not have predicted how much I would enjoy this read. Is it cheesy in some ways? Sure. Do some of the conversations or other elements seem abrupt, like the author is intentionally trying to share their social ideas, like other reviewers have mentioned? Sure. But something cozy and a bit cheesy is exactly the type of warmth I was hoping for in this read. And it delivered while it had me giggling or crooning over several heartwarming scenes. I loved every character in this story and I loved that they each had their own separate arc. While it was a bit surface level at times, I loved the amount of LGBT+ representation and how it was just a fact and not a main focus of many of the characters’ story arc. While I enjoy an LGBT+ read that delves into identity, I also love seeing writing where that identity simply exists in the word but does not feel like it needs to be the main story arc of the character in question.

Going into this book, I thought, with a quick read of the synopsis, this book would have a heavier supernatural - specifically witchy - focus, but it was much lighter than I expected. There are certainly supernatural characters and storylines in this book, but don’t expect a complex magic system or heavy explanation of the supernatural beings. Instead, this book was mostly a found family story focusing around the renovation of a quirky purple Victorian house - and that’s exactly what it needed to be for me to enjoy it.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook.

4 stars

I really enjoyed this book and completed it in one sitting. My only concern was that the male character had the stalker vibes happening that at times verged on the creepy. I didn't realise this was the 4th in a series but I did not feel that I missed out on a lot of the background, particularly the main characters family based on what was in this book.
The twist on family was a interesting surprise although as there was already a lot going on with all the other characters it did lose some of the enjoyment element for me but that is a me issue rather than due to the author. A great romance/cozy mystery for lovers of that genre.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a copy of the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a fun author! I really enjoyed her previous witchy romances! I was so glad to have been given this one! I thought this one was fun and magical! I think the MC’s were a good match! I also enjoyed all the different characters we got to meet! All in all a good magical romance!

First off- the cover of this book is immaculate and it gives such perfect spooky season vibes.
I did enjoy this book however I was expecting it to be more of a romance and it read like a fantasy with a sprinkle of romance between Iris and Eli. If you go into it knowing that it’s definitely at least a 4 star read.

I love Ann’s writing and I know how capable of brilliant work she is, which is why I picked up this book. This one is totally different to what I’ve read of hers in the past and I would say it’s more warm and fluffy. It wasn’t exactly what I was in the mood for but I know anyone who is will find it delightful

This was a hard one for me because I really enjoyed most of this story. I liked the overall plot and the setting. I liked how magic was utilized in the world and the supporting cast of characters is one of my favorites that I’ve read recently. They were quirky and the bond that they create with one another to make their own family was so enjoyable to read.

However, this book had one of my least favorite tropes and I don’t think I realized it was one of my least favorite tropes until this book. I have a really hard time when one character knows a major thing about the other before they meet, or knows that they have met before and the other doesn’t remember. Eli knows that he and Iris have met before and he has been keeping tabs on her via social media throughout the years and she has absolutely no idea. His behavior is almost stalkerish, and at one point even says that he wouldn’t like it if their situations were reversed. This dynamic creates too much of a power imbalance for me to properly enjoy the romance aspect of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Ann Aguirre for the e-arc of The Only Purple House in Town in exchange for an honest review.

I want to thank Netgalley for gifting me the ebook and audio version. I ended up listening to the audio version.

This was a cute fantasy scifi rom com. It was a very cozy read and I enjoyed it a lot. The cover is really pretty. The main love characters are cute and I enjoyed their stories and back stories. This would be a perfect read for Halloween if you want more of a light hearted read.

This book was different from what I usually read. It was definetly a lighter fantasy romance with some fun witchy vibes. Overall, it was an enjoyable read. I would recommend it for a fun fall book.

In her family, Iris Collins is the messiest. referred to as the "chaos bunny." She is unable to balance her budget for even one month while all of her sisters are extremely successful. It makes sense that she owes her housemates money. Her plan to convert the house she unexpectedly receives from her great aunt into a B&B fails, as do most of her plans. She eventually resorts to renting out apartments like a Victorian spinster and begins to gather other lost souls, not all of whom are "human." Eli Reese was the geeky outcast in school growing up, yet he became wealthy creating apps. He is now prosperous by any measure. As the days go by, Eli becomes more and more mesmerised by the oddball boarders living there—and even more so by Iris. Has Eli possibly at last found someone and a place to call "home"?

The Only Purple House in Town's characters are vividly portrayed, and their idiosyncrasies and shortcomings only serve to make them more likeable. The supernatural aspects of the novel give an additional dimension of enchantment to Aguirre's whimsical and endearing language. The Only Purple House in Town is an enjoyable read that will make you feel cosy on the inside. It's a tale about love, acceptance, and finding one's place in the world, and it will probably strike a chord with anyone who has ever felt different or out of place. This magical rom-com is something I heartily recommend.

Thank you @netgalley for this ARC.

Summary:
The overall story was so cute and fun. I am a big fan of the found family trope, so I loved how all of the housemates fit into a family structure and each of them had their role. I felt like Iris was such an interesting character and I absolutely loved seeing her become more herself when she moved to the purple house. I also loved seeing her annoying neighbor not get what she wanted.

Characters:
I loved Iris so much. She was so generous and full of love. It was sad, in a way, to see that she had not previously been able to share too much of that love previously. I liked that she was able to find herself and be surrounded by people that loved her for her.
Eli was a bit more confusing for me. On one hand I thought he was creepy for keeping tabs on Iris, but on the other hand I understand that he wanted to see a person that treated him well succeed in life and then he just got caught up in the moment. I definitely think that he should have told her way sooner than he did.

A fun and easy romance perfect for fall reading! Lots of quirky characters make up the residents of Violet Gables, including not so human members of the found family. An awkward romance and a happy ending complete this heartwarming story.
