This was an enjoyable read, with an interesting plot spanning WWII. The middle of the story did drag a bit, and it ended up taking me a month to finish this book. The best part was by far the characterization of Ilse and the struggles she had to overcome, especially the complications that Klaus added into her storyline. The mystery of whether Billy and Ilse would meet up again and how the end of their story would unfold did manage to keep my attention throughout the book, but it was not a story that had the urgent "must read this all right now" type of attraction to it.

I want to thank the author and publisher for the advance readers copy, but it was not my favourite novel and after 30% I did not finish.

Thank you Netgalley, Penguin Random House Canada | Doubleday Canada and C.C. Humphreys for free e-ARC in return of my honest review.

"Someday I’ll find you" is a compelling tale set in the backdrop of World War II, following the lives of Billy Coke, a Canadian Spitfire pilot, and Ilse Magnusson, a Norwegian musician turned spy. The story unfolds in the midst of the Blitz in London, where Billy and Ilse's paths cross, leading them on a journey of love, sacrifice, and resilience in the face of war.

The narrative takes readers on a gripping adventure, from the streets of London to the battlefields of North Africa and the occupied territories of Europe. The author skillfully weaves together elements of romance, espionage, and historical events, creating a vivid and immersive reading experience.

One of the strengths of the novel lies in its character development, particularly in the nuanced portrayal of Billy and Ilse. Their individual struggles, choices, and sacrifices reflect the complexity of wartime experiences and the human capacity for resilience and love amidst adversity.

Overall, "Someday I’ll find you" is a captivating read that explores themes of love, war, and the enduring power of human connection. Fans of historical fiction and wartime romance will appreciate the emotional depth and historical detail woven throughout the narrative.

I really did enjoy this book, from the beginning to the end had me thoroughly enjoying the writing. This is a historical fiction set in WWII and the general plot is what you expect of that time frame, but just a bit more in my opinion.

I enjoyed this book. I am writing this review very late, so I cannot remember any specifics about the book. But I do remember thinking that it was well written and enjoyable to read.

If you love stories about the roles women played in WWII or period romance stories you will love this book.
An easy quick read, it's a perfect beach or summer read or if you need to escape the dreary winter. You will fall in love with both characters and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Overall, this wasn't a horrible read. I had thought that this book would have been a good fit for me based on the synopsis, once I was about half-way through it, I realized that it may have been a bit too technical with the war descriptions and I also found it hard to keep up with all the different characters. The writing style also wasn't a match for me, I prefer the author to show me what is happening as opposed to telling me. Based on these factors, this book wasn't for me, but I can definitely see how it may have worked for a lot of other readers!

Another good wartime book. All in all, it left me wanting more and it didnt go to the places I hoped for. Well written.

I think the cover is absolutely gorgeous.

A historical fiction romance between fighter pilot Billy Coke and spy Ilse Magnusson. I was spellbound from the moment they met one another. Billy is charming and has a strong guy demeanor, but is truly a softie. Ilse is one tough cookie despite her gorgeous appearance, but that does not deter Billy. He is a singer after all and quite literally serenades Ilse. These two immediately hit it off, and then wonder how they can someday find each other again - being separated, both fighting the same war, but loving each other.

Someday I’ll Find You has all of the elements of a historical fiction that pulls at my heart strings, based on a true love story about C.C. Humphreys’ parents set in World War II. The author’s parents? And he’s Canadian. Oh my gosh, I can’t explain how delighted I was to read this book just to get to the author’s notes at the end.

Such fabulous story telling, mainly focusing on the two main characters through the years, and less on the gory details of the war. Following Billy and his first hand experience being a pilot, and Ilse navigating the intricacies of being an Special Operations Executive. How these two find each other and get a second chance.

Thanks to Penguin Random House Canada for providing me with an e-ARC of this via Netgalley.

I didn't fully complete this book. I read about half of it but didn't finish. It was ok but it just didn't pull me in. And it just didn't draw me in. I wasn't invested. It bounced around a bit too much between characters too. I just didn't find it that believable.

Someday I’ll Find You is a tale of two wars: the one fought through espionage and the other fought on the battlefield. Set during the span of WWII, we follow both the gutsy fly-boy Billy and the intrepid spy, Ilse. The two cross paths during the German blitz of London and their common resolve to free their homes of Nazism pulled them together. As they both were beginning tours of service (though of different natures), they choose to spend their last few days together and end up falling in love.

The story that follows is incredibly courageous and fast-paced as we follow both of our hero’s through their contributions to the war and the foundations of their past that motivated them to volunteer their lives in service. Through Billy, we see the physical devastation of bombings and the tragic human components that truly made WWII and the events that led up to it incomprehensible. Through Ilse, we see the sinister upper echelon of the Nazi regime and the savage heartlessness that they led with. We also learn of the downfall of Nazism through our introduction to Klaus, a rival spy who falls in love with our Ilse.

I did really love the way C.C. Humphreys divided and brought Billy and Ilse back together time after time. I was even more enraptured with their story when I learned that the book was loosely based on the true story of his own parents through the war. My only qualm was that some aspects of the story gave a “that cannot possibly be true” feeling that is hard to overcome in a saturated area of fiction like WWII. Over exaggerated fiction is challenging when the reader has many other points of well-researched information to compare from, and that’s the only piece that detracted from the story for me.

I do, however, think that there could not have been a better ending for the book. We end with Billy and Ilse coming back to one another in the setting where they met knowing all along their commitment: Someday I’ll Find You.

I struggled to get into this book as it was more slow moving than I had expected. I enjoyed it but perhaps I was just reading it at the wrong time. I will absolutely grab this when I see the audiobook come up at my library though, as I think this would be excellently suited for an audio format.

I will not be submitting this as a review on GoodReads or Storygraph, as I don't feel this would be beneficial to potential readers since it is more of a "right book, wrong time" problem.

A story of love against all odds, I was instantly captivated by this story set in WW2. "Someday I'II Find You" is an absolutely wonderful novel, full of fascinating historical gems, fast paced adventures and intrigue that held me spellbound the entire way through. This was my first book by C.C. Humphrey and I am happy to say it won’t be my last.

I had a hard time getting into the historical fictional novel Someday I'll Find You by Chris Humphreys. Set in World War ll this is a love story of and a story of survival, sprinkled with betrayal and duplicity, mixed with music. The story is inspired by true family history. Humphreys does a divine job of interweaving historical facts and compelling fiction into an insightful, love story that is fascinating.
I found the story at times to be slow and hard to keep my attention.

I think this book will work for most Historical Fiction fans. It hits a lot of the plot points that make a popular historical. My person opinion was...it's fine. It has some really interesting parts, I wished we didn't have to switch POV's as often and there were a few POV's I could have done without entirely. It dragged at the beginning, especially learning how each character ties together but then pacing picks up and the ending comes up fast.

The author's note about his family history was very interesting but learning something is based on the history of people who passed and maybe didn't give permission always makes me feel a little bit strange. It's not my place though to say if it's right or wrong and I don't think a lot of people will be affected by it but it made me think a little differently about the story.

If you're a WWII historical fiction fan, I say go ahead and give this a try. It wasn't quite what I wanted but it was still a solid book.

4.5 stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend to others interested in WWII history. Told through the perspective of 3 young people, Billy, Ilse and Klaus, each involved in the war and shows how their lives intersect.

There is a musical theme that runs throughout and the chapter titles were a welcome and brilliant addition to the ‘tone’ of that section.

A well-done story involving spies, an RCAF pilot, and a love story. The lives of civilians and what they do to adapt is interwoven with the action of the war and gives you some semblance of how life carries on regardless of circumstances. If you enjoy flying, old planes, noisy pubs, music and also have an appreciation of the hard times faced by the everyday person, this book is a worthwhile way to spend your time.

This #Canadian author is one whose previous books I will definitely look into. #CC Humphreys

I absolutely loved this story. The characters were strong and believable. It's another WW2 novel , of which I have read many but with a difference. It focuses on people, their strengths, weaknesses, and rivalries and not just on one area of the war or one person's point of view. We read about individuals and their foibles. It's a love story between a dashing RCAF pilot and a beautiful Norwegian spy and love at first sight. It's an adventure as they both fight in the war in their own way. It's about people and the places and situations they find themselves in. We get to journey with the characters as they evolve and endear themselves to us. It's a high energy, soul disturbing and simply beautiful story.
I loved that it mentions Canadian places that are familiar to me.
