This story of two suburban stay at home mothers had me hooked from the first few lines! It was a relatively short and fast paced page turner with unreliable characters and numerous twists and turns that had me constantly second guessing myself. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy in return for an honest, unbiased review.

This was a fun, entertaining thriller. Andrea is a pregnant mom of a toddler who moves to a new neighborhood and becomes friends with Gabby, the blogger mom of a teenager. The story alternates between the viewpoints of both women and they are both hiding things. Andrea's toddler goes missing and things get cray cray.

As hard as I tried and as much as it sounded like a fantastic story, I could not finish this book. I do not enjoy reading in the third person and struggle to enjoy books written that way. This does not reflect on the author or the quality of the writing. It is a personal preference.

This book was really slow at first but then it picked up!! The twists and turns to the last page were a LOT! I loved this book and would recommend it as a soft thriller!

I really think this edge-of-the-seat book is one of the best (if not the best) thrillers I've read this year! Ms. Trope succeeded in building a plot that leaves you wondering until the end who's lying and about what, thinking you have all figured out but you actually don't.

I couldn't literally stop reading because I needed to know what was really going on in the characters' lives. Ms. Trope's narrative style is brilliant, her way with words makes you feel real feelings (in this case, dread, fear but also joy and relief), as if you were part of the story. The story also presents some really interesting food for thought regarding important social and psychological topics, something I really appreciate.
***
I only wish to warn you that there might be some triggers, especially if you're a parent and/or you had an abusive parent/guardian.

THE STAY-AT-HOME MOTHER By Nicole Trope

Andrea, who is pregnant and has a small kid moves to a new neighborhood with her husband. She becomes friendly with a neighbor Gabby from across the street who herself is a mother of a teenage boy.

😊What i liked -

✔ Thriller/Mystery.
✔ During the course of the book you do feel for both the mothers, especially for Andrea as she is struggling to juggle it all without any help from her husband.
✔ This book is in a dual POV which is quite good because it gives you a sense of how both women think.
✔ The writing style keeps you quite invested in the story.
✔ This book was quite enjoyable with the twists and the secrets both the women were hiding from each other.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ I found a book to be a bit slow paced.
✔ I wish I had not guessed the main final twist.

📚Who Should read :

👶Beginners
🕵Thriller Lovers

➡️ SWIPE 4 SYNOPSIS ➡️

The Stay At Home Mother by Nicole Trope

Okay so this has one of my favorite tropes in the world. And it’s usually done badly- but Miss Trope here did it so well. It was executed greatly.

This book took me about 50% to realize exactly what was happening, but it wasn’t like nothing was happening at the same time. There were a lot of side stories, and a lot going on that I was interested in knowing.

I liked that everything wrapped up well, although I felt the epilogue was a little bit ridiculous as epilogues always are.

Nicole’s writing had me on edge and flying through the pages needing to know what happened. Once the big twist hit, I was flabbergasted, and I absolutely loved it. I sort of kind of saw it coming, but once it was confirmed that that’s what it was I wasn’t even mad I was actually pretty happy.

The Stay-at-Home Mother is the latest gripping psychological thriller by bestselling author Nicole Trope. Fast paced and addictive, it is a dark and well plotted thriller with the kind of twists, turns, shocks and surprises that had me reading long into the night. A thrilling page turner of a read, this is a book that kept me completely engaged from beginning to end.

Andrea Gately has just moved into her new home with her husband and young son. Befriended by Gabby, who lives across the street with her husband and teenage son, Andrea is a woman who is teetering close to the edge. The circumstances behind her move to a new area are slowly revealed as Gabby takes the younger woman under her wing.

Told by both Andrea and Gabby, The Stay-at-Home Mother begins slowly, building up the tension as the two women begin to get to know each other. But everything is not as it seems and the story soon moves in a completely different direction than what I expected it to as it gathers pace and races towards an ending I can honestly say I did not see coming!

To say much more would give too much away, so all I will say is that The Stay-at-Home Mother is a beautifully written, well plotted psychological thriller that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Nicole Trope has written a strong, character driven story that I thoroughly enjoyed and I can’t wait to read whatever she comes up with next!

This is the first book I have read from this author and what can I say I really enjoyed it ... it had twists and turns and a great plot that kept me turning each page in quick succession. It's a great read if you are traveling or going to and forth from work. I was kept on the edge of the page at times and found this a really great read thanks so much.

I love a good thriller. This was definitely top-notch thriller. I love anything by this author I cannot wait to read her next book. The characters in the book had been drawn in for the very first page to the very last. Highly recommend this authors work and definitely recommend this book one of the best I’ve read so far in 2023.

I raced through Nicole Trope’s latest suspenseful psychological thriller, The Stay at Home Mother! As a Mother myself, Andrea’s nightmare is all too real a concern. The part that social media plays in our lives, and the potential pitfalls and dangers are illuminated throughout the pages. While this is a worst case scenario, its excitement is built up because of the potential for this to be a true crime story.

It was a quick and enjoyable read overall. I’d give this a solid 3.5 stars but will round to 4 on GoodReads. If you like books by Freida McFadden, Sally Hepworth or Jeneva Rose - you’ll want to give this a read!

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced listen to this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts expressed are my personal opinion.

Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of The Stay-at-Home Mother by Nicole Trope
I had a hard time getting into this novel, I wanted to love it, the first half just didn't grab me, it felt forced, not quite believable, I found some parts repetitive, it picked up around the 60% mark of the book, and the twist at the end I really enjoyed and didn't see coming. I wanted to love the whole book more as I have read such great things about this author. I will pick up another of Nicole's books.
The story is told from two perspectives Andrea and Gabby. Andrea and her husband have just moved into a fixer upper across the street from Gabby. Gabby lives with her 16 yr old son and her husband is traveling for work in the States. Things aren't as they seem however, but Andrea and Gabby form a friendship. Andrea is about 5 weeks from giving birth to a daughter, in desperate need of some rest, she allows Gabby to help out with looking after her 3 yr old son. Andrea is also overwrought with worry that her husband is gambling again, and who keeps watching her house from that red car parked across the street.
Some of the events seemed unlikely to me, I found it so strange that Andrea never saw her neighbor Gabby's son or asked to meet him.

Good premise for a story, enjoyed the 2nd half of the book much more, felt a little fine tuning would have made it awesome, like some of the repetitiveness. I will read more from thus author as she has great reviews and I like psychological thrillers.

Andrea and her husband Terry are new in town. Andy is pregnant and home taking care of her young son while Terry works all day. Alone day after day, Andrea is open to befriending the woman across the street who shows up at her door. Gabby has a teenage son of her own, and her husband always travels for work, so she knows what it's like to be alone so often. When Gabby offers to watch Jack so that Andrea can get a little break, she can't believe her luck. But, when she wakes up from a much-needed nap, her son and Gabby are nowhere to be found. There has to be a logical explanation, right?

Y'all know I love Nicole Trope. I'll read any domestic thriller she writes. This one had everything I've come to love about Trope's writing: characters you can't help but question, twists and turns, multiple POVs, short chapters. Both women in the story had secrets, and I enjoyed trying to figure out who I could trust.

Did I guess some of the twists? Yup. But it was more of a "yes, I got that right!" instead of a "dang, I saw that coming" if that makes sense.

If you are looking for a quick and twisty thriller, check this one out!

This was worth reading.

It was a slow burn and build-up of secrets...

And just when you think, the loony neighbor was loony from the get-go, the final surprise is
shocking.

It is scary to know, that things like this can and do happen.

This read was worth it, can absolutely recommend in the psychological thriller genre !

This book started out really slow. I almost gave up but was real glad I didn't. The second half was great. I really loved the ending. Lots of twists. Its the story about two neighbors hiding secrets.

I read The Stay-At-Home Mother over the course of one weekend and I absolutely loved it! The writing is so smooth and really keeps you turning the pages. Gabby was especially intriguing to me as I am drawn to characters with rich psychological issues who are both vulnerable and dangerous at the same time. The author did a fantastic job of making me care about both Gabby and Andrea, which put me in an impossible dilemma (in a good way) while I was reading. I was completely taken by surprise at the ending. What an incredible read!
