Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
As always, another great book by Harlan Coben. Really good read that I finished pretty quickly because I couldn’t wait to see what happened.
I’m never disappointed by one of Harlan’s books!
What would you do if you had been put in prison for a crime you didn't commit? And worse yet, what if that crime had been the death of your 3 your old son? David Burroughs just goes numb when this happens to him. He has served 5 years in prison when evidence suddenly appears showing that his son might actually still be alive! From here the book just takes off with a prison break, visits with trial witnesses while being chased from the cops, and even the mob is involved. My favorite part of Mr. Coben's books are all of the twists and turns. You finally think you have it all figured out and then another angle appears that you just never saw coming. This character drew me right in and had me cheering for him the whole way. Another great story for a masterful storyteller! Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for an ACR of this book!
Harlan Coben creates yet another compelling story full of mystery, suspense, action and heart. I was at a stand still where I had so much to choose from but nothing seemed to be pulling at me. So I chose this one knowing without a doubt that I would love it. His writing is easy, but manages to tell a such a good, heartfelt story every time. This is a a beautiful tale about what lengths a parent would go to for their child. Four Stars.
Thank you Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing for this ARC.
This is a very good book. For regular readers of Mr Coben, you will be reunited with perennial
Attorney Heather Crimstein, who plays an important role in this story.
David Burroughs wakes up to discover his 3 year old son, Matthew, bludgeoned to death in his
bed but has no idea what happened. In a very conveniently well crafted and choreographed
criminal case, David, the son of retired Police Officer, and nephew of a Prison Warden and with
another Police Officer as his cousin, is sent to Prison pretty quickly for a crime he cannot even piece
together. By the time he’s convicted and sentenced, his believers are falling away.
This story is so well laid out that no matter the twists and turns, readers will have a lot to digest as they
try to decide whether David should be in prison forever, or whether he might also be a victim.
After 5 long years, and without allowing a single visitor, David receives quite an unexpected visitor.
With one visit, the entire story will take off, and not slow until some very important information is almost
verified and some very well placed friends & family begin to have doubts about what really happened.
I’m happy to say that as unlikely as it seems that things will turn around, with the help of Attorney
Healther Crimstein and an entire cast of believers willing to risk a lot, the truth will be told.
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the downloaded copy of this book in exchange for my
honest review.
I always love, and look forward to Harlen Cobin's books! It is guaranteed that it will take me on a ride and there will be a twist at the end! This book doesn't stray from his original formula, and doesn't disappoint.
Sara and Max are two quirky FBI agents that work well together, and are trying to figure out who help David Burroughs escape from jail. They are focused on his former sister in law, as well as the warden and his son.
David is focused on finding out the truth about his son, who he has been convicted of killing, but doesn't remember doing so, This story line has the makings of a great movie.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for this arc! This is my 4th book by Harlan so far and I have loved all of them! We have David who is 5 years in on a life sentence for killing his 3 year old son when his sister in law comes to visit him in prison and shows him a picture of a boy who looks an awful like Matthew, his son. David decides then that he needs to find this boy by any means necessary. Loved it! Can’t wait to read more from Harlan!
A favorite author with a dark and surprising spin on ‘what would you do for your child’? The story is full of heart pounding tension. I love being surprised by a plot and this did not disappoint.
For five years David’s been in a rural prison in Maine for the brutal murder of his toddler son, Matthew. As you would expect he has lost all will to feel or to fight beyond his grief and pain, and still professes innocence. His marriage was shaky before and didn’t survive, she’s moved on and remarried. Out of the blue his former sister-in-law, Rachel, visits the prison with a bombshell. She’s a disgraced journalist and never believed David was guilty. The events that follow will blow you away.
There are many solid characters in both supporting and central roles. The prison warden, Philip, is also David’s godfather. The former wife, Cheryl and new husband, the prison guard who could be on the take, the wealthy powerful Payne family. Everyone except Rachel believes David is guilty.
There’s not too much foreplay in the action as the plot dives right in to nail biting dramatic scenes. I devoured it at a frenetic pace while hardly breathing. Just remember, this is fiction, not true crime, the scenes are exaggerated and extremely entertaining. One of my favorite ploys in a such an obviously serious subject involving the death of a child, was that there’s relief with a comical duo of FBI agents, Max and Sarah, who feed questions and theories back and forth like ping pong balls. I want an entire series based on their characters! They were hilarious and a perfect addition to the plot. I highly recommend you read this book, there’s something for everyone – mystery, suspense, family drama, humor, thrilling scenes and legal questions.
I received an advance reader copy from NetGalley of “I Will Find You” by Harlan Coben, published by Grand Central Publishing, Hachette Books. The expected publication date is March 14, 2023. These are all my own honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily without compensation.
Okay, this was the best page turner! David , is serving a life sentence for murdering his son. But did he? Rachel, his ex sister-in-law shows up one day with a photo of someone looking a lot like David's dead son. The quest that then pursues is unforgettable and gut-wrenching as the story unfolds.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!
A really well written book that kept the pages turning. It starts out with a brutal murder of a young child and takes off from there. I had a good idea where the book was heading and I was generally spot on but it didn't take away anything from my enjoyment. Coben always puts out a great book and this is no different. Some of the end parts were a bit implausible but, again, it kept the story moving along well.
There are few things I love more than books that make me feel like I’m watching a movie. It unfolded all so smoothly without missing a beat. There was only one *small* part about the ending that make it lose 0.5 stars, but I won’t spoil it.
Coben has been one of my favorite authors consistently and I Will Find You kept that streak in tact. Such a unique and captivating story.
This is my first Harlan Coben novel. I didn't really have expectations, as I didn't know his writing style. This is in my wheelhouse of what I usually read, which can be good and bad, as I have a tendency to compare work from the same genre. The subject of the story is fresh and new. I haven't read anything like this plot before. Some characters, such as the Payne family and Philip's family, are not fully developed yet crucial to the storyline. That was a little bit of a letdown. David and Rachel's characters were fully developed, especially David. The pace can be slow at some point, but not too bad that I was tired and wanted to skip ahead. I feel the lack of development in some main characters really bugs me, as it leaves a good story incomplete. Also, for most of the characters, I don't can't feel their emotions coming through the pages; David is the only one. I like the storyline, but character development needs a considerable boost.
Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for letting me read this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
David is spending life in prison for killing his son, Matthew. For five years he has no visitors, until one day, his sister-in-law comes to visit. What she shows him sends him into a quest to find out the truth about what happened to his son and hopefully prove his innocence. In true Harlan Coben fashion, this book is a page turner. You can feel David's hopelessness in prison, then his passion and desperation for his son once he escapes. I like the plot of this book, naturally it has you asking, "What really happened to Matthew?" As a curious person I just had to know. I love the way the characters are written, how their personalities come through. The only thing I wasn't quite fond of was the dynamic between the federal agents, Max and Sarah. In the beginning of book when they are first introduced, I found them very annoying. But throughout the book they were less so and were more tolerable. Overall, I loved this book and would recommend to anyone who likes mystery or suspense.
I've been a long-time fan of the author, and probably have read all of his novels. This didn't disappoint, albeit a little short. I was engaged with the story and characters and enjoyed the voyage. Several plot items were a little hard to believe, but I was able to suspend disbelief ;). I appreciated the cameo appearances from Win Lockwood and Hester Crimstein.
Any day with a Harlan Coben novel is a good day.
I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley.
Obviously this was super unrealistic but it was a fast paced read that kept me engaged. There were enough twists to keep it interesting.
Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Another great book by this prolific author that keeps your attention from page one until the finale. His writing skills are outstanding.
I highly recommend this to all of his many fans and certainly also to those that still have not had the pleasure of discovering him yet.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of I Will Find You.
I was a big fan of Mr. Coben's earlier books. I found them thrilling and suspenseful and I liked the way he writes.
I Will Find You is classic Harlan Coben; a man is falsely accused of a heinous crime and later discovers his son is alive. He engineers a daring escape to find the truth.
Mr. Coben excels at writing likable protagonists but I've noticed in his most recent books, the narratives require a suspension of disbelief that surpasses my ability to do so.
There are plenty of thrills; a daring escape, chase scenes, disguises, and plenty of hard to swallow twists and silly coincidences, which is where Mr. Coben lost me.
I don't believe in coincidence, not in real life and definitely not in books.
Also, how did David's wife get pregnant at the fertility clinic with her husband's sperm? Did he forget he left a sample lying around and his wife took it with her to the clinic?
Come on, Mr. Coben, you can do better than that!
Fans of the author might enjoy this but not me.
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to read this before publication.
David has been in prison for 5 years now. 5 years for the murder of his son. He doesn’t remember doing it, but the evidence was overwhelming. How could he not have? David has resigned himself to his life in prison … until one photo changes everything.
I absolutely LOVED this book. It was so unique and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The twists and turns were impeccable. I couldn’t get enough!
Run, don’t walk, to order your copy ASAP.
harlan coben’s “i will find you” is about a man who was sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of his toddler aged son. when his ex-wife’s sister comes to see him in prison and shows him a photo of a boy, they both make the realization that matthew, david’s son, is still alive. he races against time to prove his innocence.
first and foremost, i feel that the title is misleading. david is a very selfish character who only cares about clearing his name, not actually finding his child.
the point of view shifts between first and third person, but does not do so gracefully. it feels out of place to follow the actions of so many side characters when we should be focusing on david’s psyche and his emotional journey to find his son. this is really more of a thriller rather than a psychological journey. it’s not at all what i thought it would be, and i felt the twist and ending were hastily written.
it would have been two stars, if not for the disgusting comment on racism in the police force that comes in the first few chapters. the author mocks those who fight against racism in a cruel way as well as people of color who have been wrongfully convicted and over-policed. this comment comes out of nowhere and is extremely off-putting — friends of color please take caution if you choose to read this novel.
thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Harlan does it again!
Readers are in skilled hands whenever they pick up a Coben book. It’s the same with this one…the tone is set from page one. Fast. Unrelenting. Tense. Painful.
When a man is sentenced to prison for murdering his young son, pain seeps into his bone. He’s resigned himself to his cruel fate, having a murdered son and being punished for it.
Yet, something never felt right about that night. He’s confused. He doesn’t remember the crime, but surely he did it? Right? But why.
When his sister in law visits him in prison she shares something with him that sets off a WILD chain of reaction! Bam! Buckle up this ride is about to get bumpy!
Full of action sequences, masterful misdirection, and heart pounding pages, Harlan Coben delivers with I Will Find You.
If you enjoy Coben, this is a no-brainer—get this book! If you like surprises…here’s a good one!
I recommend the his novel to readers enthusiastically!
The was a fast paced thrilling novel like all of Coben’s novel. It is a stand alone novel with one familiar character showing up in the novel from previous novels. It kept me on my toes and interested. I will purchase for our library as it will be popular. Thank you NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the ARC!
