A cute story about being a meadow mermaid with mentions of waves and wheat and oceans of grass. I once was a little girl, growing up on a farm, with the outdoors as my playground. This book reminded me a lot of my childhood days. The illustrations are fantastic. Overall, a quick read that will hold a child's attention.

A lovely, perfect prairie book for quiet kids. I love the imaginative world of the young "mermaid" and the fact that she finds the perfect real-life friendship by the end of her adventures.

I Am a Meadow Mermaid by Kallie George is a sweet and beautiful picture book about a little girl who pretends she's a mermaid, even though she lives nowhere close to the sea. The illustrations are soft and almost dreamlike in their hazy summer-ness, and each sentence is poetry. The story is the perfect example that you're only limited by your imagination. Highly recommend for little readers, especially girls.

The story I Am a Meadow Mermaid by Kallie George is a fun story about a farm girl turning her surroundings into her imaginary ocean. She may not live near the ocean, but that doesn't stop her from becoming a mermaid.

This story allows children to see the value in using their imagination to keep themselves occupied. The visuals in this book even remind me of a daydream.

If you have a mermaid loving child then this is a great book to show them the power of imagination.

Thank you to the publishers for allowing me to share this advance copy with my children. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book provided by the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A landlocked little girl dreams of the sea in this lovely tribute to the power of imagination. Luckily she finds a kindred spirit to share in her sea swept adventures. A nice read for anyone who likes to dream. With gorgeous artwork by Elly MacKay.

I Am a Meadow Mermaid is a fun imaginative story of a girl who lives far from the sea but still dreams of being a Mermaid playing in the waves and searching for adventure. The illustrations have a beautiful classic feel to them. This book will be a great addition to any library and for fans of The Little Mermaid.

Thank you to Netgalley and Tundra Books for providing me with a review copy.

I enjoyed this book, seeing as I grew up in a land-locked area and was obsessed with mermaids. I loved the premise of the story and finding the magic in any location. My only complaint was that some parts felt like they didn't flow from one page to the next.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest review!

This book is all about imagination. A little girl who doesn’t live near the ocean and pretends and dreams of being a mermaid. I love the imagination and uniqueness of this picture book.

The name of the book and the cover artwork had me hooked on this book since it reminded me so much of my own days when I was younger where the world was so much richer in my head. As a result I was eager to splash in.

Unfortunately there was just so much wrong with the book....

First of all this book makes it seem that Kallie George was attempting a poetical format to help get her story flowing like water, which would have been nice to have since of the mermaid theme. Instead the text was clunky at times while flipping around without an anchoring point since first we explored the protagonist being a meadow mermaid to then being told what she is hoping for fantasy-wise before being blown back into the character and then a whole new splashdown. It was a bit disconcerting.

The illustrations are brightly and warmly colored just like the cover while sweetly inviting. Unfortunately the Kindle format for NG has basically dissected the illustrations in half and not even halfway thus there is a giant space between each half while in one half the cat has been decapitated and the next part he's missing a portion of his body. Why?????

And then finally the last straw for this manatee would be the fact that Penguin put a do not distribute message on one page that basically covered the text so even when it is increased in size the reader still cannot distinguish the writing out.

As a result I will grudgingly give this book two starts for the artwork and nostalgia it stirred from the cover but until the book has been published without the issues I cannot honestly recommend it to someone else who may not want to compromise with all its issues.

I Am A Meadow Mermaid is a sweet children’s book. This would be a great bedtime story with the dream like hazy illustrations. This is a great story to help children who don’t live near the ocean imagine they are there! Very sweet.

This was a sweet story that mermaid and pirate lovers will really enjoy. The illustrations have a hazy, dream-like quality to them and while they aren't my favourite, I do think they capture the essence of the story really well. I think that this is a great book for kids who live far from water and will inspire great imaginative play.

A whimsical little story with beautiful artwork that inspired the imagination of my own little prarie children. The story is short but sweet and inspiring. We loved seeing how each prarie element was used in the little girls imagination. We will definitely read this one again.

For my land-locked midwest students, this book would be magical! The illustrations are simply beautiful. The only suggestion I would make, is to the transition between pages 13-14, as it feels a bit "clunky" with the repeating of the shipwrecked sailors theme. Love the introduction of the Milla character and the ending is lovely.

I Am a Meadow Mermaid is the perfect book for all of us land-locked ocean-lovers. It is simplistically sweet in its portrayal of a young girl and her mermaid adventures outside of the ocean. I love the friendship that develops and how the story ends full of hope and dreams for the future. A necessary book for any library.

The illustrations for this book are gorgeous. The colours really eye catching and pleasant. I really liked the idea of a girl playing mermaid on a farm as this was similar to my own childhood. However, it did not translate to paper as well as I was hoping it would. A nice calming story for bedtime.

such a sweet book about a girl using her imagination who meets a friend along the way, they use there imagination to picture themselves as mermaids and pirates. My daughter immediately was drawn to this book from the title as she herself loves mermaids and pretending to be one. She has quite the imagination and felt like she understood the book on a personal level. This book is great for children who have a big imagination and can relate to it. My daughter is 7 for age reference and she loved it. Definitely would recommend grabbing a copy for your child's collection or this would be great for a library as I feel like many would love to read.

I saw the cover of I Am a Meadow Mermaid by Kallie George, and I had to read it! Not only does the main character look like me, but I live in a rural community similar to hers. I saw much of my ancestors in this book (they were farmers, I am not), and who doesn’t love multiple aspects of relatability? Children of all ages will enjoy playing in the rolling hills and searching the country for stars in a sky unpolluted by city lights.

This imaginative story, painted with striking associations by George, follows a young girl who sees the ocean all around her. George painted a beautiful world with lyrical writing, but the illustrations by Elly MacKay brought the story to life.

This one-day adventure that empowers imagination and dreams is sure to be popular with many children (and parents), especially those living in rural areas. I will purchase two physical copies when this is released; one for my collection and one for my future Little Library. I found the illustrations beautiful, making this a to-be-treasured picture book. I will be introducing it to my nieces as I believe they will enjoy this as a bedtime read.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Penguin Random House for this absolutely beautiful arc!!

This story is just so beautiful and so sweet. Set in the Canadian Prairies, a little girl and her friend pretend they are a mermaid and pirate together amongst the waves of wheat and grains. This is beautifully illustrated and a really imaginative story, I can't wait to sell this in store and see it in person :D
