The narration in this book was excellent and I enjoyed the multiple POVs. This was an excellent debut by Terri Parlato, and I will read more from this author for sure. I enjoyed the protagonist despite the clueless wife trope, and I did not predict the ending, which is rare for me. Really good book!

This story captured me right away, and kept me guessing! I also really love a dual POV and I listened to the audiobook and always appreciate when there are multiple narrators to really capture the emotions and characters.

ALL THE DARK PLACES, set in a Massachusetts suburb, when a savage murder reveals the dark secrets at the center of a group of friends. Two women, one with a traumatic past, and one a Boston police detective, on a hunt for the truth.

*many thanks to RB Media and netgalley for the gifted copy for review

Told in a dual POV and narrated with both fantastic narrators, I really enjoy my time listening to this mystery thriller.
Short chapters and lots of multiple suspects introduce along the story making it difficult to guess keeps me listening until the end to find the answer.

While I enjoy making theories as I listen to this story, I found it to be confusing at times cause there’s a lot of suspects introduces and I’m having difficulties in remembering who's who.
Also, the length of the book feels slightly too long hence making it loses the suspense element.

Nonetheless, the big reveal caught me by surprise and I’m satisfied with the ending.
Overall, it’s a decent mystery thriller book and I’ll keep an eye out to this author’s future books.

I received an advanced audiobook copy for free through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the author and publisher!

This is an interesting story. It captures your attention very early on and as things progress they get more and more confusing until they make perfect sense!
Molly Bradley is home on a cold winter’s night with half a dozen of her closest friends to celebrate her husband Jay’s fortieth birthday. Everyone loves Jay but no one more than Molly. The next morning she wakes up and discovers Jay in his office dead. His throat slashed brutally.
Detective RIta Myers has worked for the Boston PD. for decades. She’s used to the evil out there. She’s seen her share of senseless murders; the worst side of humanity. However, Jay’s death isn’t some random act or a crime of opportunity. She is positive that someone who was at that party killed him. Someone very close to Molly and Jay.
Molly is absolutely gutted as she tries to make sense of her husband’s murder. Jay was her rock who knew and understood the nightmare she lived through many long years ago. He knew all the terrors she kept from everyone including their friends. Soon enough though some shocking revelations come to light. Could it be that Jay wasn’t the only one who knew her secret?
This was good. I can’t say I absolutely loved the end but I was satisfied with it when all was said and done. I loved the pace of this book, the way it was written, and the characters were perfect for their parts.
I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the audiobook from NetGalley. It was fantastic. There are two narrators, one for Molly and one for Rita, and they were both brilliant. I really enjoyed it so if you like to listen like this, this one is a good one!

Ever since Spooky Season, I've been reading more and more thrillers and I absolutely love it! So when I was scouring NetGalley and found the audio for this book, I was immediately drawn to it. A woman finds out her husband has been killed in the same house she was fast asleep in? Let's just say I was sold.

And I had a great time listening to this story! The characters were intriguing and the twists were very well written, there were so many things I had not predicted.
It did take a bit long in the beginning to set up the decor and get to the juicy stuff but it did get more and more interesting as the chapters went by.

I really loved the dual POV narration from both the victim's wife and the detective on the case, it gave a fresh perspective on a murder mystery novel. You always get only one POV so this was a really interesting structure. Plus the two audiobook narrators did a great job at giving life to the characters!

Definitely recommend if you're after a well written mystery novel ❤️

That was a great debut novel by Terri Parlato. I enjoyed the narration by Stephanie Cozart and Christina Moore. I usually listed at 1.85 speed and it was very easy to follow. I like it when there is more than 1 narrator. The thriller is good and well paced with a nice twist! I've recommended this book to others already.

This story begins with a young couple about to celebrate the husband's 40th birthday with three other couples. The next morning, the wife awakens, goes looking for her husband and finds him dead in his office. Police detectives try to find the killer, while the wife worries she may be the main suspect. The book is written from two voices/perspectives, the wife and the female lead detective. We sympathize with the wife as she struggles to cope with the loss of her husband, while being haunted by something from her past. I thought that perspective was well done. The detective's perspective seemed a bit weak, as one would think that they would have investigated the wife's background early in the process. I could find no fault in the narration of the book. The story line was also well constructed, with lots of possible suspects emerging with time. Overall, it was an interesting listen.

Thank you NetGalley and Recorded books for sending this audiobook for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

WOW!!! I just got done listening to this book and I;m still saying wow. The narrators Stephanie Cozart and Christina Moore were wonderful. I really enjoyed listening to them tell this incredible story. I had a hard time stopping this book. There were a few twist and turns that I didn't see coming. Molly's husband Jay is murdered after his 40th birthday party and the killer could possibly be one of the guests...

There is a lot more going on in this story than just the murder of Jay, Molly herself has a past she doesn't want the people she knows to know about, but it does come to play in the future. There is also cheating, and several other things between characters that add to the mystery of the murder.

There are several twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages, you will also think you have gotten it figured out, just to carry on a few more pages forward and realize you were way off.

I found the story to be engaging and a fast-paced mystery/thriller. I listened to it on audio and with holidays and family sickness, it was a slower listen than I wanted it to be. All The Dark Places is Terri Parlato's debut novel and it was well written with a solid storyline. It was suspenseful and tension-filled, all the things that you want from a good thriller.

The one thing that did somewhat bother me was the number of characters the story had. When I say it bothered me, I mean it at times overwhelmed me and I had to question things because I was confused. I will note that this wasn't a straight-through listen, many times I had to set it down to come back to it days later. This could have very well been the cause of my confusion on a few things and not the author's writing.

Told in two POVs, Molly, who is Jay's wife and devastated by his death, and Rita, the detective working the case. Both characters are likable and well-written. One of my favorite things I enjoyed in the book, or audio I suppose was the short chapters ( there were over 60 of them ) There is nothing I hate more in a book than overly long chapters. I want the beginning of a new chapter to be my stopping place, and there are many times a long one that keeps me from that. Makes Tee an unhappy girl.

As mentioned, I did listen to the book on audio and I really enjoyed it. Two narrators made it enjoyable. All in all, All The Dark Places was a great debut thriller/mystery that anyone will enjoy.

This is a great debut thriller with suspense, atmosphere and so well crafted! I was hooked from the very beginning. I wouldn’t say it was super fast paced, but the audio was so well done and I found myself finding little pockets of time to listen. I can’t wait to see what this author comes out with next!

On his birthday, Jay is murdered. His wife Molly is obviously devastated, and all of the couple's friends are in shock - especially because most of them were at the birthday party right before Jay was killed. A detective investigates the case and comes to learn more about Molly and her friends throughout the investigation because, you know, everyone has secrets, and nothing is quite as straight forward as it originally seemed.

This book definitely held my interest. I can't say that I was completely shocked by everything that I found out as the reader (although I was a bit surprised about the killer/motive), but it definitely held my interest and I wanted to keep reading. I don't know that I'd say it was an "unputdownable" read, but I was always excited to start it up again.

The story was told via alternating perspectives from Molly (the wife) and Rita (the detective). Molly and Rita had different narrators in the audiobook. I'm not always a fan of multiple narrators. I think it's because some of my favorite narrators have such amazing range and it seems like they could give a voice to any character, so it feels like I'm taken out of the story a bit when the voices change significantly. In this case though, I think the personality and demeanor was so different that it worked.

I will definitely be checking out future books by Terri Parlato.

I would like to thank NetGalley, RB Media, and Terri Parlato for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

What an interesting debut. Even though it is about Molly as she deals with the death of her husband, I was drawn to the detective on the case, Rita Myers. There was something about her and I wouldn’t mind another book where she is the focus.

As I listened, I was drawn in by the narration of Stephanie Cozart and Christina Moore. The contrasts in their voices made it easy to know who the chapter was about.

There is dual narration, a group of tight knit friends who are all suspects, a hidden back story for one of the main characters, a few red herrings and a terrific dog to make up this one. It is more of a slow burn suspenseful novel than an all out thriller. It kept me guessing.

This was a compelling mystery with a fantastic character in Detective Rita Meyers.

In an affluent suburb of Boston, Molly Bradley throws a dinner party for her husband Jay’s birthday. The Bradleys and three other couples enjoy drinking and conversation. As the party ends, Molly goes to bed drunk and Jay goes out to his garage/home office to work on his book on abnormal psychology.

Molly wakes alone the next day and finds Jay murdered.

There is a delicious unfolding of secrets and lies, affairs and suspicions, as Detective Rita investigates. Molly has childhood trauma, which she denies in her new life, and Jay’s research into serial killers brings more details to muddle the case. Rita is a tight and concise investigator, interesting and likable. Molly comes across as wounded yet real, though her mourning process was unwieldy and sporadic.

There are many possible killers and motives are revealed and either pursued or discarded. There are four men in the Bradley’s friend group and there were points in the story that I struggled to keep them all straight. When the final confrontation occurs it seems unlikely that the killer had managed to keep their extreme motives and malice so hidden, which felt unrealistic.

In general, a character-driven, fast-paced and engaging read.

𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 is the debut novel 𝐛𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨 and it is a good one. This new thriller is one that will keep you guessing with an ending you won’t see coming.

𝑺𝒀𝑵𝑶𝑷𝑺𝑰𝑺:
Molly had thrown a small, 40th birthday party for her husband Jay, with some of their closest friends. But, on the morning after the party Molly finds Jay dead. Rita, the secret I’ve on the case is sure it was someone at the party. Molly, on the other hand, doesn’t know what to believe especially since Jay was her rock and knew all about her darkest secrets. Who could have killed Jay, a beloved psychologist?

𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔:
-a whodunnit with a backstory that is definitely a page turner
-Multiple POVs one being Rita the detective on the cause. Interesting to see how the police handled this case.
- Stephanie Cozart and Christina Moore did a fantastic job bringing this story to life and I binged the audio in one sitting.
-An ending you will not see coming!

5 stars for this thriller that got me out of my post holiday reading slump.

Many thanks to NetGalley for the advance listener's copy of the audio book. I listened to this in tandem with a physical ARC of the book.

The publisher made a really nice choice of having two narrators for this novel. One for Rita the police detective and one for Molly the main character. The voices were very distinct and made it easy to sense character POV shifts. The narrator of Rita definitely sounded older and was a wise choice for a character that was 60 years old.

I really enjoyed this novel and wish it had been selected as the December 2022 BOTM. It was a really engaging thriller. Not only do we have a mystery behind who killed Molly's husband, Jay but the author did a really nice job developing the feeling of uncertainty behind each of the friends that was at Jay's 40th birthday party. The backstory with Molly in her youth was well developed too.

The book had nice references to Christmas and the snow in early January and made for a fun, wintery, thriller read. A person could easily pick this up the week of Christmas or on a vacation and easily transition in and out of it without any problems.

I was absolutely wrong with you I thought was the villain of our story. I'm always glad when an author catches me by surprise.

Molly’s psychologist husband Dr. Jay Bradley is celebrating his 40th birthday one night and the next morning he is found dead. A group of friends who had gathered to celebrate Jay’s birthday have to meet the next day hearing his death news. When the cops start investigating each and every friend seem to be hiding something, for some it’s old mysteries that they never want to be revealed. Detective Rita who is in charge feels that something is off about the wife Molly as well, but no one knows Molly’s secret since she has done a good job of hiding her past.
As the story develops and Molly’s past is revealed, more secrets are spilled.
All The Dark Places is a superb book, and is a great 5-star read – the suspense was held on till almost the end and every bit of this book was very well written.
Thanks to netgalley, Terri Parlato, and RB Media for approving the audio ARC in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Narration by Stephanie Cozart; Christina Moore has done complete justice to the storyline and I thoroughly enjoyed it

I liked this book! It didn't read like a debut at all. I mean, it wasn't perfect either, but it had a lot to offer in terms of the plot and atmosphere.

I loved how it pulled me in straight from the start. A tight group of friends, a birthday party in the beginning of January, while everything is still settling from the holidays. A likeable, everyone's favorite guy winds up dead. And suddenly everything looks way different than it did the day before.

The way the story ended wasn't exactly my favorite, although it wasn't bad either. But other than that, I got exactly what I expected - a fun mystery, engaging plot, believable narration, and all in all - a thriller that was a delight to listen to as an audiobook.
