A phenomenal debut book. I loved so much about this: the characters are complex, the switch in point of view keeps things interesting and compelling. Also, these were a lot of surprises which kept me guessing until the very end. Often times in thrillers or mysteries, I get a hunch of who the killer is before the end. However, All the Dark Places unfolds in a way that I had no idea until the end. I loved it.

This was a great book.

I had just finished another great mystery/thriller book when I dove into this. This was perfect to keep my mystery mood going.

The characters were great and the two different perspectives really helped get us into the minds of both leads as well as helped us keep up to date on both storylines that obvious intersect.

I devoured this title! Pacing throughout the story was great and there were multiple layers of trying to figure out what happened! The narration and editing was perfect. A good mix of characters, plenty to endear yourself too and others that were unlikable but that’s props to the author writing them that way!

Thank you Kensington Books, Kensington for arc and RB Media, Recorded Books for alc.

I love to read and listen together. It gave me special vibes. I liked the start od mystery death but the end let me a little meh. Anyway I was intersted in this characters, always when drawing is mentioned I want to draw. Maybe visualising will be use next time. I hoped to be more secret and less obvios but difficult to listen at all, loved how the narration was done as well

What a wild adventure this novel takes you on. Dual perspectives with a large cast of questionable characters that will keep you guessing until the end. Several tragedies intertwine and kept me on the edge of my seat. I truly enjoyed this book!

All The Dark Places by Terri Parlato

This is a debut dark thriller story by Mrs. Parlato. Molly Bradley's life is about to turn upside down. She and her husband have a party at her house to celebrate Jay Bradley's 40th birthday. They invited three couples that are close friends to them for the celebration. Everyone is enjoying themselves the alcohol is flowing. Late into the night everyone is getting ready to go home. Molly who is ready to go to bed watches her guest leave. Jay informs her he will be in his office to do some work but will be to bed before to long. Molly goes to bed the guests leave and her husband goes to his office. Molly wakes up in the morning and notices her husband isn't there but she is not alarmed he sometimes gets up before her. She gets up to start her day and she notices that her husbands office door is open which is out of place for her. She goes out there and finds her husband dead.

The police come and things do not look good for Molly she had to much alcohol and did not hear any noises the night before. We also learn that Molly has her own past with something horrible happening to her as a child. The story was easy to follow along and the pacing was good. We also have a detective name Rita Myers who has seen her fair share of gruesome murders is on the case.

The book was well written and I was engaged from start to finish. Mrs. Parlato knocked this one out of the park for being her debut book. I was hooked from the start. I liked how she brought the story together in the end and how it all played out. It made for some good story telling. If you are a fan of dark thrillers this book will be for you.

Narrated by Stephanie Cozart and Christina Moore which helped the reader follow along with the dual narration of the story. The point of view from Molly herself and the point of view from Detective Rita Myers. This was a five star read for me. In the end the murderer is revealed it is not that easy to figure out who murdered Molly's husband and who is terrorizing her. This is what made the story really good in my opinion. I cannot wait to see what Mrs. Parlato writes next I am hear for it and cannot wait for it.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance reader audio copy of this book. I loved Wilmington’s Flicker, so was excited to listen to her new novel. She brings back the crazy, messed up family relationships I love. I can’t wait for her to write more! 5 stars

This was my first book by Terri Parlato and it was a solid 3.5 stars read for me.
We get to know Molly who finds her husband Jay murdered at their own home. There are plenty of suspects since all their close friends were gathered to celebrate the fortieth birthday of Jay the night before.
Enter Detective Rita Myers whom I really loved. She is brutally honest and human.
The story takes turns all over and in the middle I have to confess that I got a little bit lost. But towards the end it speeds up again.
I particularly enjoyed the narration done by Stephanie Cozart and Christina Moore

Thanks #NetGalley #Recorded Books for this audiobook

Quick Summary: Dark, creepy, and captivating

My Review: All the Dark Places by Terri Parlato was a thriller that I was completely taken in by. Even though the story was simple and linear, in a sense, it was a psychological nail-biter. It was easy to follow. It had numerous characters who were familiar and yet not. Unexpected twists and plot angles kept me guessing until the big reveal. The depravity and inner workings of the antagonist were creepy. I loved the ever-developing strength of the main character.

My Final Say: This story was disturbing in the way that matters for a mystery/thriller. Readers who enjoy dark twists will find this book on point.

I listened to this book the past two days while working and so I think that gave me a disadvantage of fully being invested in the plot. I think had I read the book it would have been more suspenseful for me. Regardless, I think this is a great debut book for this author and a really good crime/suspense novel.

I liked the back and forth between the characters - seeing both Molly & Rita’s perspectives as we moved through the case and each new development came to light.

I also liked how we were presented with shreds of mystery into Molly’s past - to try and figure out as well as figure out what happened to Jay. I found my self perking my ears up when new clues and evidences were introduced and went along with piecing all the puzzle pieces together.

I did find the eventual twist kind of random and parts of it slightly predictable. But none the less it was a shocking ending. All in all this book had great characters and a good pace (at least from an audio perspective) and am interested to see what else may come from this author!

A slow burn psychological thriller.. a group of friends.... could the killer be one of them? Who is it?? And why? A slow build up that ends with a bang! Once this book picked up, I had to keep listening. When they had the big reveal I was totally floored! I definitely didn't guess it! Alternating narrators between the lead character Molly and the lead detective. At first I didn't care for Molly but towards the books end I totally appreciated Molly's perseverance and will to live. Molly had to find out why her husband had been killed and who had killed him. Her childhood was mixed in to the whole ordeal. Very enjoyable read! I give this book a 4 star rating. Thank you to the author/publisher for the ARc.

All the Dark Places is an example of how to make a great mystery novel through an even better investigation. The story is told from two perspectives, Molly and Rita. Molly is a tragic story. She has a dark past that gets fully explored during the course of the book. The story begins with her husband Jay getting murdered. Tragedy just seems to follow Molly. Rita is the main detective investigating Jay’s murder. Rita is a veteran cop and was really such a likable character.

I enjoyed every part of this book. My favorite part had to be learning more about Molly’s past and how that affects her present. No one is supposed to know about Molly’s past, but somehow it got out. Part of the investigation was finding out how people knew about Molly's past.

Once everything came together I really liked where the story went. This was not one that I figured out completely but I did get part of it correct, that counts for something right? This book is for any mystery fan or anyone who likes a good investigation. I can't recommend this one enough.

Short chapters with alternating points of view helped this one move along at a decent pace. The plot was intricate enough to keep me interested and had a few good twists along the way. Some of the characters were well-developed, but others could have used a little more depth to justify their behaviors. The narrators of the audio version did a good job portraying the main characters, but did not do well voicing any of the male characters. All in all, I enjoyed the story, but may have liked it better had I read it instead of listened to it.

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked both the narrators of this book! They had very distinct voices so it was easy to tell which character was talking. The story had lots of twists and turns which I appreciated and I was even questioning if Molly was an unreliable narrator through most of it. I love when I have no idea what’s coming next and I felt like this one kept me guessing until the very end! I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes mysteries and thrillers with lots of integral characters with complex backstories.

Decently entertaining debut thriller!

This isn't a perfect book, but it kept my interest throughout my listening experience with the audiobook. I will definitely see where Parlato goes with her writing in the future because I do see some talent here.

This story focuses on Molly, who has just celebrated her husband Jay's 40th birthday the night before with two other couples who are their best friends. She wakes up the morning after and discovers Jay murdered in his back yard office. Who could have done this and why? The other POV of the book is from Rita, a 60-year-old police detective who is assigned to the case. As the police begin to investigate, some disturbing clues come to light and there are many secrets being concealed.

This story kept my interest, but I struggled with the focus. There are quite a few extraneous things thrown in (lots of random conversations with Rita and her neighbor), but they don't help us to know the characters more. I feel like better development of the characters might have allowed me as a reader to have various suspects as we went along and kept me guessing about who murdered Jay and what their motive was. As it was, the extra elements just served to make the story looser and not as taut as it could have been. The book has shades of a police procedural, but we spend more time with Molly than with the police and I'm not really sure the police actually figured anything out.

There was one instance where they were asking all of the suspects if they would give a DNA sample. It was a huge thing they asked everyone and a couple of paragraphs are dedicated to each of their reactions. However, it is stated as a police aside that they have NOTHING to compare any DNA to, so there is no point in actually collecting the DNA at all, nor does it ever come into play within the narrative after the people are questioned. It was just a waste of words honestly, with zero point.

Clunky parts aside, this is a solid story that kept me entertained and I look forward to another book from this author in the future.

Molly throws a party for her husband Jay’s birthday with just a circle of close friends. The next morning, Molly wakes to find Jay dead in their house. Which one of their friends did it?

The story is told from alternating perspectives - Molly and the policewoman in charge of the case. And as the case unfurls you learn secrets about every member of their friend group including Molly 😳

This is a solid domestic thriller - an easy read that kept me entertained. But I don’t think I will be able to remember the plot long after I finish. Tbh, when I got to the big reveal, I couldn’t even remember the person they were talking about. You can tell this is a debut novel a bit in the writing but I think this author is for sure promising.

If you like Shari Lapena and Mary Kubica, maybe check this one out.

This is a case of when the blurb is better then the book. I couldn't wait to read this book, it sounded so good. However, the pace was to slow for me and it lacked tension and suspense. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was great.

Molly Bradley retires for the night as her husband is showing the last of their party guests out. She sleeps contentedly the way you do after a fun, cheery evening with friends. Then she wakes up to find her husband dead on the floor, his throat slashed.

I loved the premise of the book and the beginning was extremely well written. The contrast between the warm, champagne-filled evening in a nice home in the Boston suburbs and the harsh cold of a Boston morning made infinitely worse by a gruesome murder was impressively sketched for maximum effect. I couldn't wait to jump in to figure out who the killer was.

Unfortunately, to me, it seemed to go from fast paced to dead stop almost immediately. The characters weren't especially interesting, and the writing was less compelling. I liked the detective's character, and the alternating perspectives provided some depth, but none of it was especially relatable or real. I anticipated that the party guest's own secrets would spill., but none of it felt particularly unique or shocking.

I really wanted to like this one it just felt a little flat. I would probably read another story with the detective as the main character, maybe a different case or setting would leap of the page a little more.

Story is told from the POV of Molly Bradley and Detective Rita Myers.

Story starts with Molly celebrating her husband Jay's fortieth birthday with a group of close friends. The next morning she finds him murdered in his home office.
Dr. Jay Bradley is a psychologist, considered a nice guy and the perfect husband. So who would want to kill him?
Authorities’ suspect the killer was from the Bradley’s circle of friends, perhaps a disgruntled client, or even someone Dr, Bradley interviewed for his book on Abnormal Psychology and the Criminal mind,

Molly is a quiet person and gives us hints of traumatic event that happened when she was a child. She was nicknamed ‘The Girl in the Cellar’ by the media only immediate family and he husband know about it. In fact, Molly met Jay when she went to him as a patient.
After Jay’s death Molly starts receiving threatening phone calls from someone who knows her past.
Molly decides she needs some protection and goes to the animal shelter for a dog that will serve as a ‘support dog’. Readers who like dogs will love Sadie and will cheering for her to help Molly.

About a third into the story has the addition of a missing woman whose necklace turns up in Dr. Bradley’s things. Hmmm
There are many characters and multiple issues which kept me guessing!
This seemed to be a bit too much- hard to believe only 358 pages.
I kept at it and loved the ending!
I liked Rita.
I have a low tolerance for profanity and it always more difficult for me via audiobook ~ cannot – unhear it! ~ Whereas, in a book I can skip.
I do ‘get’ that nasty people talk nasty!

Want to thank NetGalley and RB Media for granted me this early eGalley.
