My thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for letting me read and review ‘Find Her Alive’ by D. S. Butler.

DS Karen Hart is part of a team investigating cases of drink-drugging at some of the city bars. When a friend asks her to check on a missing woman, Karen finds out the woman may be one of the women who had the drink spiked. The missing woman is also a partner in a company planning to sell a diagnostic scanner, where an investor has possible criminal connections. At the same time, DS Hart and other members of the team have their own personal issues to deal with, causing additional tensions.

DS Hart is an interesting character, who gets in her fair share of dangerous situations, but always ends up solving the case. As usual, police procedurals are drawn out in order to provide a complete story, but, at times, I just wish they would move along a little quicker. In this book the cast of characters are varied and colorful, and this provides an interesting read.

I did not realize this book was in a series so I was lost in some areas. I may need to read more of this series. But, it was a little slow for me and didn’t grab my attention.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Amazon Publishing UK for an advance copy of Find Her Alive, the seventh novel to feature DS Karen Hart of Lincolnshire Police.

When a friend from her counselling group asks for Karen’s help in locating a missing friend, Phoebe Woodrow, she is happy to help, but she needs official permission that isn’t forthcoming until Karen identifies her as a potential victim of drink spiking. Then Phoebe is of interest to the task force investigating the drink spiking, but that’s not Phoebe’s only problem. Her company is being financed by shady local businessman, Quentin Chapman, and he is taking an unhealthy interest in Karen.

I thoroughly enjoyed Find Her Alive, which is an engrossing read with plenty of twists and turns. It is told mainly from Karen’s point of view so the reader knows what she knows and can guess alongside her. I got a bit of it, but not nearly enough to claim a solve, or to spoil my enjoyment of a well told story that I read in one sitting.

Finding Phoebe or what happened to her does not turn out to be as easy a task as some think it will be as she appears to have vanished off the face of the earth. Karen tries to retrace her steps and build a profile, but Phoebe appears to have been a bit of a chameleon, different things to different people, and she’s keeping secrets. Every piece of information is hard won and it’s fascinating the way the author weaves her plot together, keeping the reader’s attention with small reveals and more questions. The twist at the end was a bit of a shocker, so well done to the author for keeping it concealed.

I like Karen Hart. She’s smart, dedicated and supportive of her team or in other words a real person with a traumatic past and enough strength to still embrace life. I like in this novel that she’s still slightly damaged and worries about danger to her loved ones from the people she encounters through her work. Will it make her resign? She’s thinking about it, but she’s also doing her best to face up to these potential threats.

Find Her Alive is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

My first DS Karen Hart book in the series, but I enjoyed it. The world-building was good but I felt like everything was moving so fast, like I was on a rollercoaster ride, rushing to the end. DS Hart is a very direct person which I enjoyed reading about. The twist at the end I didn't expect (maybe I to start reading more crime novels ha). Overall solid book, 4/5

Not a bad book but I found the plot here sometimes a little over complicated. I have to say that this probabily does give a true image of police work, where an individual has several irons in the fire at any given time. I liked most of the main detectives and the insight into their personal lives felt realistic. The conflict with some collegues needed a little more explanation for me.
There is some suspense , but a lot of the book is about following hunches and talking to the small group of witnesses and/or suspects repeatedly. I did more or less guess the outcome .
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-ARC of this novel. This was my first D.S. Butler novel and I was excited after reading the summary. I'm giving it 3 stars as it was an enjoyable read but it never wowed me. I kept waiting for the plot to pick up the pace and it never did. Unfortunately, some of it felt repetitive and there was never a pivotal, exciting point in the plot.

I did enjoy this one overall but it took me longer to get through it due to the pace.

Detective Karen Hart is looking into the disappearance of a woman named Phoebe at the same time her team is investigating crimes involving spiking women’s drinks. Phoebe’s friend Erica was pet-sitting for her and was surprised when she never returned to pick up her cat. As any pet lover knows, that’s a clear indication that something must be wrong. Is her disappearance related to the other crimes or is it completely separate? Phoebe is about to come into a large amount of money through her company, so there is a motive for her business partner, at the very least. Not only that, but one of their company’s investors has criminal connections, so there is no shortage of suspects for Karen and her team. Can they solve these crimes before more women get hurt or disappear?

This series has one of the sadder backstories of the main character, Karen. Her husband and daughter were killed to warn her off investigating a past case and she’s never fully recovered. She’s a tragic figure who puts every ounce of her being into bringing justice to others. It lends a touch of reality to this series of books because targeted loved ones are a very real fear for law enforcement. I’m glad her character is trying to maintain a relationship again because you can tell she and her current partner, Mike, are a perfect match. But you’ll have to read this book to see where they are headed!

I like Karen's cases usually but found this one a bit slow and didn't really get going, there was no gripping moments or excitement, it was just a whole story that appeared to be looking for a missing woman and finding someone who was spiking drinks. A bit disappointed

This book was 7th in a series, and what an amazing book. Each main character had a little side story going on which made everything click and it made you feel attached to them.
I feel sad that this is the last book in this series.
It had gripped my attention right from the first page and I had no idea of the twists and unexpected turns of this book.

The author has such a good writing style that you are on the edge of your seat and just willing to find out what really happened.

This was my first book I’ve read in the Karen Hart series and I will definitely be checking out the rest.

I loved Karen Hart’s tough as nails exterior. I felt the book took a little bit to really get going, but once it did, I was very invested!

Book Title: Find Her Alive
Author: D.S. Butler
Series: Detective Karen Hart #7
Publisher: Amazon Publishing UK
Genre: Mystery/Thriller
Pub Date: February 7, 2023
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐+ Stars

I have only read a few D.S. Butler novels but I am a fan! I read others in the Detective Karen Hart series and have been looking forward to the next one.

Things are going well for Karen, she met Mike on a case a while back and although they didn’t hit it off at first their relations grew. Now this relationship is providing some balance to her life and helping her deal with her grief of her husband Josh and five year old daughter Tilly being targeted because of her job.

Erica Bright a member of her counseling group approached Karen to look into finding her missing friend Phoebe Woodrow. Erica is watching Phoebe’s cat and she hasn’t picked her up yet. Erica reported her missing to the police but the family said she is not missing that she her grandmother saw her. Karen agrees to check into the case but has to be careful as the police say there isn’t case.
Karen is concerned and needs to find out if Phoebe’s disappearance be related to women having their drinks spiked at various bars in town; or, since Phoebe was about to become a millionaire thanks to a medical scanner she and her partner invented, Perhaps jealousy is playing a role?

There are a lot of characters in this story and Karen seems to take a lot of risks. She loves her job but is also constantly fearful that anyone close to her will be a target because of her.
We keep pulling for her and hope that she can resolve this fear and continue to have a good relationship with Mike as well as being able to keep her job. ~ Stay tune!

The book called “Meditations” is mentioned near the end of the story and a great healing quote is mentioned ~
”The best revenge is to not be like your enemy.”

I am looking forward to the next in this series.
Thank you Ms. Butler for another great mystery/crime story

Want to thank NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for February 7, 2023

I always look forward to D S Butler’s DS Sophie Hart series. The characters draw the reader in from the start of the book, and carry you throughout. The premise follows f this installment is a “ripped from the headlines” mystery involving medical equipment. Additionally, the team is chasing a man who is drugging women and attacking them. All of this happens as Sophie and her team deal with real life events and the emotions that accompany them. As always, with this series, the only problem was I finished it too soon and now I must wait, somewhat impatiently, for what happens next!

I simply love this series and I have grown to really enjoy following Karen Hart's personal development as well as her cases being solved. Really good character surrounded by an interesting team which adds much to the enjoyment of each book of the series. I am particularly pleased that the author has finally given her main character a relationship :). I like it when my main characters find love along the way....
This is once again a solid police procedural exploring the hideous crimes of drinks being spiked and sexual assaults taking place. Karen Hart as ever will resolve it with the support of her fantastic team.
I look forward to the narration of the book as well which has been excellent too...

Thanks, NetGalley for this e-ARC. It was nice to watch Karem get her life back together. This book comes again with a wonderful plot. The suspense was on point. The investigations were done correctly.
The only thing I didn't like was the ending. It didn't satisfy me as much as I wanted.
