Another solid entry in the DS Karen Hart series. Karen's come a long way since the first books and has a relationship now to balance with her job. When a friend asks her to look into a young woman's disappearance, Karen has to find a way to pursue her investigation without compromising her professional responsibilities. A good story with enough twists to keep you turning pages.

A slightly slow start which then escalates into an action packed saga. Young women are having their drinks spiked and the perpetrator is no closer to being caught when another young woman, Phoebe, disappears. She seemingly has everything to live for with a big business deal in progress and the purchase of a house almost signed and sealed. We delve into her business dealings and some of the local underworld and the story takes on a few twists and turns. I loved the premise and the stealthy pace and different threads of the story.
The characters were well developed and I liked the insights into the personal lives and own demons of the Police working the case as well as the main characters. The sinister aspect of the criminal underworld and feeling of being under threat were also well handled and written. Also the themes of cut throat business deals and greed were well explored.
I would definitely recommend this book.

Many thanks to both Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Find Her Alive!

3.5 Stars, rounded up

Expected publication: February 7th, 2023

Karen Hart has a new relationship and seems to be successfully coping with the grief of her past. When a member of her counseling group begs Karen to look into a missing friend, Karen promises to do so. Might Phoebe’s disappearance be related to a recent spate of women having their drinks spiked at various bars in town? Or, since Phoebe was about to become a millionaire thanks to a medical scanner she and her partner invented, did professional jealousy place her life at risk?

The beginning of Find Her Alive felt a bit bogged down in unnecessary details to me. However! Once I got past that issue, I remembered why I love this series. The twists and turns kept me on my toes. Rick’s struggle to look after his mom at home (due to her Alzheimer's) so touched my heart. And, Sophie is a hoot! Who WOULDN'T love the girl who loves paperwork?? I also loved Mike's dog, Sandy, and I'd love for her to have a bigger role in the next book.

I recommend this book and the series!

This is book 7 in the Detective Karen Hart series. It was a good mystery that left me guessing as to what happened to the main character. I would recommend.

Detective Karen Hart receives a call from an acquaintance from her counseling group asking for help. Her friend, Phoebe, appears to be missing. Police have investigated but don’t think anything warrants further review so she is asking for Karen’s help.

Upon investigating, Karen worries that foul play may be involved. Phoebe had been out to an establishment that her team has been investigating. Someone has been drugging women and accosting them. Did this happen to Phoebe?

Phoebe is in the middle of a big business deal and her investor, Quentin Chapman, is suspected of illegal activities. Could she be in danger from him? Will Karen be able to get to the truth and find Phoebe alive?

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the seventh book in the Detective Karen Hart series by author D.S Butler. This book is the latest offering in an established series but works perfectly as a standalone although I would recommend reading them all. Once again another excellent crime novel.

Life is starting to look a lot better for Detective Karen Hart, she is now in a new relationship which is helping her deal with her past grief. While attending one of her counselling sessions she is approached by one of the group to help locate Phoebe Woodrow, a missing friend. Phoebe went out for the evening to enjoy herself and never returned.

There has been a large amount of cases where women have had their drinks spiked and Karen wonders if this could be a similar case. Karen soon discovers that Phoebe works in medical research and has a worrying affinity with a local gangster Quentin Chapman who was about to make her a fortune. The questions are building up, where is Phoebe, is she alive, who has taken her and why.

A very enjoyable read and the series continues at an high standard remaining fresh.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Amazon Publishing UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

As the 7th book in a great series, we are all now familiar with the characters, their histories and relationships, so it’s nice to see how they’ve changed and evolved. The plot, as usual, was addictive. A friend from Karen’s counseling group thinks that her friend may be missing, but she might be wrong. As Karen starts looking into it, she realizes that there could be something there and, as the case moves on, the team finds some baddies. But are they involved in the disappearance? Is the woman even missing? The plot is as addictive as usual and the ending just great.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Amazon Publishing UK!

Find Her Alive by D.S. Butler is book #7 in the Detective Karen Hart series. There's lots of action in this book. The police are trying to catch the person putting Rohypnol in ladies' drinks and then taking his victim home and molesting them. Also Detective Karen Hart gets a call from a friend she is in counseling with who thinks her friend Phoebe Woodrow has gone missing. There are various twists and turns as the two investigations cross each other. I enjoyed all the action and suspense. The twists and turns kept me turning the pages until the end. This is a good addition to the series.

A woman named Erica—whom DS Karen Hart met at her counseling group has asked her to help locate her friend Phoebe Woodrow, who called Erica on a Friday morning asking her to look after her cat overnight because she’s going out and wouldn’t be back until late.

But Phoebe didn’t show up the next day to collect her cat. Erica has tried to call but can’t get hold of her and this has her worried.

According to the officer who filed the report, Phoebe’s family says her grandmother had seen Phoebe earlier and that she’s fine. But DS Karen’s not convinced.

Lately there’s been a spate of crimes involving spiking women’s drinks at bars and then assaulting them afterwards. Operation Starling has been set up to investigate these crimes.

As DS Karen digs deeper into the case, she wonders if Phoebe’s disappearance might be related to the crimes her colleagues are currently looking into.

Further investigations reveals Phoebe’s and her business partner Cary Swann’s work in medical research involved a shady alliance with Quentin Chapman, an investor who’s a known local gangster. But the business deal was about to rake in a fortune for the founders.

Did Phoebe know too much? Or was it professional jealousy that put her life at risk?

Well written detective story. I like the relationship between DS Karen and her team. The ending was good and I will certainly read the next one in the series. Highly recommend.

Thank you to D.S. Butler, NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for the arc of this book.

In Find Her Alive, Detective Karen Hart is asked by a friend to help find a woman who is missing. It soon becomes apparent that this missing woman may be a victim in another case they are investigating, where women are having their drinks spiked at local bars and being attacked. This was a quick read and good mystery. Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this Arc.

Detective Karen Hart has been asked by someone in her counselling group to help find a friend, Phoebe, who has gone missing.
She discovers that there is a man spiking drinks and women are assaulted. The hunt is on for this man when video footage shows Phoebe staggering in a pub, and talking to a man outside when she exits.

Phoebe and her partner in business, Cary, stand to make a huge fortune with the sale of their invention to Quentin Chapman, who has a shady past, and who may be responsible for Phoebe's disappearance.
Karen is on the clock trying to find Phoebe before it is too late.

This is the first time I have read a book by D S Butler, and I am going to do my best to find the rest in this series, as it is actually very good.
The book had a good flow, and eased between police business and personal relationships and personal life seamlessly, building up a very good picture of a great Police team.
I definitely can recommend this book to readers who want a novel that will hold their attention.

Really enjoyed this novel by D.S. Butler. the continuation of the series starring D.S. Karen Hart investigating a missing woman and women being drugged in a bar. The reader is kept in suspense until the last pages.

Someone is drugging women at local bars, taking them home, and attacking them. When a friend of Detective Karen Hart shares with her a concern about the disappearance of a young woman, she wonders if it's related to the drugging cases. When Karen finds out that the missing woman was at a bar and appeared drugged, the hunt is on to find her and to catch the perp. It's a complicated process, and Karen clashes with other detectives and superiors in her urgent quest to solve the cases. In the midst of the drama, she is also comforting a friend who is mourning and adapting to her new relationship. It's a good mystery with a surprise ending.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

The boom starts when a friend of detective Karen Hart’s friend, contacts her about a potential missing persons case. This seems to be related to operation starling, an investigation into women’s drinks being drugged and then them being assaulted. What is the tie to a dodgy businessman and why are his goons following Karen about?

This was a great instalment to the series and I devoured the book. Lots of personal relationships with Rick’s struggle to look after his mum at home and Karen’s worry about the potential for Mike to suffer because if they job.

It was well written and the suspense built nicely. It was just the right length and the conclusion was just at the right time without things dragging out.

Highly recommend.
