I thought I had been tempted to read ahead when I read When the Day Comes but this was even worse! This book was just a brilliant as the first. Maggie had three lives. Three every different and very complicated lives at times. I absolutely loved the historical notes and author notes at the end of the book. I feel the book the author writes is their own, nothing needs to be explained but I did appreciate her added details and inspirations.
I reveled in the historical figures that Maggie encountered and that were mentioned. When Maggie was meeting Clara Barton, I loved her thoughts: I suddenly felt like a time crossing stalker.
Interactions with Abraham and Mary Lincoln were neat. And I of course love her parents in 1941. I won’t say which time period was my preference but the whole book is page turningly wonderful.
This quote also struck. I can’t say who said it but it was powerful: None of us choose the lives we’ve been born into. It’s how you decide to deal with it that matters.
I received an ebook from Netgalley from the publisher. All views and opinions expressed are my own.

Time traveling books have always fascinated me. Added history and romance makes this book a winner!
Margaret (Maggie and Meg) lives in 1861, 1941 and 2001. She lives the same day in each year. Her 1941 family also has the *mark*. They are the only family that know what she is experiencing. On Margaret's 21st birthday, she has to choose which era she wants to continue in.
The author has chosen 3 years that mark great days in American history. I have not read book #1 but I plan on finding it to read.

I have reviewed this on libraything and goodreads.

I cannot say enough good things about this series. The author’s creativity is amazing, and so is her ability to layer a cohesive character across three timelines. Yes, THREE. Being born to time crossing parents and marked twice as a time crosser herself, Maggie must live three paths. This means that she basically lives the same day three times – one in 1861, one in 1941 and one in 2001. She is medically inclined in each time period, and I really enjoyed the layers this added to the plot.

In book one, the only similarity between Libby’s two paths was Libby herself. But with In This Moment, Maggie consistently faces the dilemma in 1861 and 1941 of what to do with the medical knowledge she has from being a med student in 2001. Is she changing history if she uses it? If so, she could forfeit a path before her 21st birthday (when she must choose a path to remain in for good), before she’s ready to do so. But how can she stand by and watch people die when she has the knowledge to help them? I loved how Meyer explores these issues raised by Maggie’s time crossing, from how it affects Maggie to how it affects her loved ones, too. In When the Day Comes there was a lot of emphasis on God’s sovereignty as it related to the time crossing, and while that is explored here as well the author also delves into the concept of free will. The perfect follow-up to the themes in book one.

I thought Libby had an agonizing choice to make in choosing which path to live in When the Day Comes, but it dims in comparison to Maggie’s. I honestly was not at all sure how things were going to play out and, unlike in When the Day Comes, I didn’t know how I wanted it to end, either. Until I did. But I was going right up to the wire along with Maggie and holding my breath on her behalf. There are some stunning twists in this book, things I didn’t see coming, and I’m just still marveling at the author’s ability to so masterfully craft this time crossing reality and create such compelling characters.

Bottom Line: In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer is another masterpiece of fiction. The plot, the characters, the time crossing ‘rules’, the history, the faith themes – all of it holds you captive from beginning to end, hardly daring to breathe as you follow Maggie through her three paths. Romance abounds in each path, making my KissingBooks heart happy, and while it doesn’t overshadow the story it is a large part of her dilemma for which life to choose. I loved the character growth that Meyer takes Maggie through, both emotionally and spiritually, and I wanted to give another standing ovation in the last couple of chapters. The theme of sacrificial love has been strong in both books, and given the ending of this one I cannot wait to see where the author takes it in book three.

Immersive and thought provoking, this riveting tale of a woman living in three separate timelines is a captivatingly compelling read, that had me gripping the pages until the very end.

A stunning follow up to When the Day Comes, it can easily be read as a standalone. I loved this book so much, that I kind of read it more slowly than usual because I just didn't want it to be over too soon, as it eventually was. Maggie is a hardworking young woman determined to make the most of her time in each era that she has been given, using her gifts to help others. I liked her respect for her gift, as well as her devotion to her family in each era, as well as the friends and family that knowing her secret support her every step of the way.

I loved how the author brought each of the time periods to life, each compelling in their own way I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. I also liked how this book explores questions of trusting God with the future, as well as our free will, and using our gifts. The author did an amazing job handling the romances in each timeline, each man was intriguing in a different way, and spoiler--I love how it turned out!

Overall, easily one of my favorite reads this year, I don't think I can do this amazing book justice as I loved it so much cover to cover, I wouldn't change a thing and I can't wait to read the next book in the series, next year cannot come soon enough! Compelling storytelling, weaving together 3 distinctive time periods into a compelling novel of faith, love, and courage, HIGHLY recommend!

5 ⭐️s.
In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer, the second book in the Timeless Series, is another time traveling adventure filled with history, faith and family.
The daughter of parents marked as time travelers, Maggie, bears both of her parents marks allowing her the unique ability to live in three separate and crucial timelines of American history, 1861, 1941, and 2001. However, on her 21st birthday she must decide which time she wants to stay in permanently.
Maggie is a self-proclaimed “healer” and works in the medical field during all three timelines. However, she bears the near impossible task of not implementing any of her future medical or historical knowledge into her past timelines. The reader gets a front row seat to the struggles she faces in keeping each of her lives separate while also realizing that all three weave together and define her in some way.
The historical elements of each timeline drew me in immediately and revealed the importance of these events in American history . One small moment could have changed the entire trajectory, and that is the line that Maggie fears crossing. Her caution ties her hands when it comes to creating lasting relationships and making the most important decision of which time is actually the one she will live in the rest of her life.
Wonderful read. Fast paced in parts while still holding to sentimentality and a slower pace in the exact right places.
Thank you NetGalley and Bethany House for an advanced e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

#BookRevew: IN THIS MOMENT by Gabrielle Meyer

Do you read speculative fiction? It’s not my usual read, but I just love this series. I thought Libby’s life was complex with a dual timeline in When The Day Comes. But Ms. Meyer had to make it more complex for Maggie with three. The covers in this series are just as good as the inside of the book too.

In This Moment is out of this world with the time crossing, however, there were so many relatable circumstances. I can’t imagine living Maggie’s three paths. She had a purpose in each one of them with a loving family which made it more difficult for her to decide. Every path was engaging and intriguing. The pace was really good. It kept me guessing. Twists and turns made me wonder which path Maggie would choose.

I highlighted so many lines in this book. I cried with Maggie. I felt her fear and anxiety. But I also felt her need to heal and to love. The romance was sweet. I love the lesson on hope and grace, and in trusting God’s will in our lives. It was so touching and enlightening. The historical facts woven within this masterpiece was amazing. I wanted all the details between the last chapter and the epilogue. I didn’t want it to end yet. I will be counting the days until the next book comes out. Historical fiction readers will surely enjoy this book!

This is a book that you will not want to put down till you read the last page and then you will still want more. "In This Moment" is one of the most the interesting and original stories I have ever read. This story makes you feel you are right there along with a lot of emotions. The story is so well written and woven together using some actual people along with some actual events. I think you will try to figure out how Maggie/Margaret will make her choice, before it is revealed. All things concerned, was it the choice you would have made?

Oh. My. Word. I feel like I've run the gamut of emotions while reading this. Joy, Sadness, Anger, and even Fear!
It was all well-crafted and the ending made total sense. I truly enjoyed this book and it deserves every one of the 5 Stars I gave it!
Maggie was an easy to like character with such a huge burden. You could almost feel the weight of the upcoming decision. I was so worried about her losing a path because of her knowledge and desire to help others through healing. The historical times and situations she experienced were all interestingly written and I loved the glimpses of famous characters.
This book reminds us that God is always with us no matter where we are or what path we are walking. We are never alone, because He is always there.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. The review is my personal thoughts and opinions.

I enjoyed this book even more than the first one! This time-crossing novel is set in three very pivotal time periods in history. 1861 has the first Battle of Bull Run, 1941 has Pearl Harbor, and 2001 has 9/11. Alongside the history is friendship, loyalty, love, betrayal, loss, sadness, and new beginnings.

I cannot imagine what it would be like to live three totally different lives in three different time periods, and then have to choose only one. This book had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. It was hard to put down and had me in tears during some moments. The ending makes you definitely want to know what will happen in book three. I would highly recommend this book. If you haven’t already read book one, make sure you grab it and read it first!

I was provided a copy of the book from the author/publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Absolutely loved this book! Gabrielle Meyer’s writing is amazing and I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to read her books! I went into this story knowing it was a time slip novel, but that was all. I was blown away by the compelling story and how well she captured the different time periods, as well as the heartfelt romance. I could not put it down. The premise grabbed my Dr. Who loving heart, and even though I hadn’t read the first book in the series, I quickly caught on to what was happening.

Maggie is a time crosser who goes to bed in one time period and wakes up in one of three time periods, 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each time period is at a crucial moment in history. In 1861, she finds herself in the middle of the Civil War. In 1941, the U.S. is on the brink of WWII. Lastly, in 2001, she’s a medical student living in Washington, D.C.

In each era, there is an intriguing gentleman who catches her eye, In 1861, it’s a handsome British man whose allegiances are a mystery. In 1941, it’s a prickly doctor who challenges her at every turn. And, in 2001, it’s a handsome Senator. By January 1st, Maggie must choose which time period she’ll live the rest of her life in. As she grapples with her choice, she’s put in situations where her medical knowledge has the chance to alter history. Does she save someone who might otherwise die? Which of the desirable men is the best choice? Her dilemmas cause her to question everything and her decision will come down to the wire.

I loved this book so much! I don’t want to say too much more because the story is so deliciously satisfying, and it’s more fun going into it blind. I was still guessing which time period she’d choose up until the very end. It’s so well written that the time crossing aspect is completely believable. Each period in history was so well described that I felt like I was there. I loved the romance and was torn just like Maggie between the men. I also enjoyed the way faith was woven through the story.

It’s easily one of the best books I’ve read this year and I can’t wait to go back and read the first one in the series. Highly recommend to historical fiction and romance fans as well as fans of time travel. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily given.

For someone who loves history, this time travel book is woven with major American events and many famous characters.
The author gives vivid detail to take you back in history.
The generation that lived through Pearl Harbor is quickly dying off. Those of us who lived through 9-11 will never forget the shock and fear.
History is there for us to learn from. I’m thankful God holds the future.

Maggie lives in three timelines, 1861, 1941, and 2001. When she reaches 21, she must decide which life to remain in. In 2001, Maggie is a hard working medical student. In 1941, Maggie is a nurse. Maggie and her sister join the navy, and are sent to a hospital ship in Pearl Harbor. In 1861, Maggie is the daughter of a northern senator at the beginning of the Civil War. She loves each life that she leads and struggles to make a decision.

I really enjoyed this book. Each timeline was well flushed out and detailed. Maggie was a fascinating character. She was well developed and easy to love. I think I've found a new favorite author, I can't wait to read more!

Gosh, I don’t even know how to review this book. I absolutely loved When the Day Comes, but whatever is beyond love is how I feel about In This Moment. This will easily be in my top five for the year and my new favorite time travel romance.

Maggie’s story is so complex as she has three different lives/timelines in 1861, 1941, 2001. They were easy to follow and I was super invested in all three. I kept being pulled in every different direction just like Maggie. She had such good reasons to stay in each timeline, but I absolutely loved her end choice!

This is truly one of those books that you have to experience by yourself. Please don’t be deterred by the love triangle. I promise the romance is so swoony and satisfying. And the epilogue - GASP. All I know is that I hope this series continues because I am so invested! I promise you won’t regret reading this beautiful book!

There is literally no good way to start a review for this book. Like every other reviewer, I am struggling to even come up with adequate words to describe my experience with In This Moment in such a way that would convince someone else to read it. Simply put - it is amazing!

Unless I'm mistaken, there's been very few time travel stories written within the Christian fiction genre. (Maybe they are actually out there, and I'm just unaware.) I feel like Gabrielle has hit an untapped market of readers by merging time travel and faith together into her Timeless series. The combination of these two elements has provided me with some of the most page-turning reading time I've experienced in years, and I'm on board for all of it and more. Those who love Outlander but long for it to be told through a Christian lens are the perfect audience for these stories.

I'm not going to reveal an iota about the plot - you can get all that info from the book blurb. If I say more than that, I risk spoiling an incredible reading experience for a new reader, and with this series, I dare not breathe an extra word! I will suggest that you read this series in order as this second story builds upon the first.

So how does this review end? It ends with me telling you to find your way to Amazon, Google Books, Barnes & Noble, Christianbook.com, or any other bookseller to get your hands on these two books immediately! Once you've read them (I promise, you'll be able to get nothing done until you do!), tell all your friends about them, too...just with no spoilers. ;) Without a doubt, you'll see why everything in the Timeless series earns a much-deserved 5 stars.

This book was amazing! Where to even begin? When the Day Comes was one of my top favorite books I read last year and I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of In This Moment ever since. It was everything I hoped for and more. It is definitely going to be one of my favorite books of 2023!

This book had everything— history, intrigue, suspense, romance, drama, and most importantly to me, faith. It was a journey, and never once did I get bored. I fell in love with each of the characters and time periods… which made Maggie’s decision seem an impossible one to make. That being said, I am so happy with the life—and the person— she chose. I won’t spoil anything but he was absolutely wonderful and I fell in love with his character in the very beginning.

The characters came alive for me, especially Maggie. It was so special reading about Libby and Henry’s daughter. She was such a wonderful main character! I loved watching her journey in each of the lives she lived. I especially enjoyed reading her journey as she worked in the medical field. I admired her courage, her resilience, and her desire to seek God’s will for her life.
Again, the hero was amazing! It’s hard not to fangirl about him so I will simply leave it as this… I fell in love with his character. He was selfless, sweet, and the perfect hero for Maggie.

It was so interesting reading about the three lives she lived. I loved that she got to live in three time periods because there was never any time to get bored. I really enjoyed the history woven into the storyline. There was always something exciting happening or a character that would capture my interest. Since there were lovable characters in each of the time periods, it truly made Maggie saying goodbye to two of them that much harder. I was always on the edge of my seat, uncertain of which one she would pick. I didn’t want this book to end— yet I desperately wanted to know— which life and which person would she choose?

Not only did this book have plenty of suspense, an incredibly intriguing storyline, and wonderful characters, it also had faith… which I really loved. It brought so much hope to this book! These characters’ faith in God really inspired me. It was integrated into the story so well. Definitely a highlight of the book for me!

In conclusion, I loved this book and I am so excited for the future books in this series! If you’re looking for a fascinating time-travel read that has wonderful characters, intriguing history, inspiring faith, and great writing, I highly recommend this one!

🩺Pub Day Review! 📿

#qotd : What was your favorite read from April?

Super big thank you to @bethanyhousefiction for my copy of the book! It was my first as an official Bethany Reviewer. I can't wait for the next!

Synopsis: "Maggie inherited a gift from her time-crossing parents that allows her to live three separate lives in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night, she goes to sleep in one time period and wakes up in another. Until she turns twenty-one, when she will have to forfeit two of those lives--and everyone she knows in them--forever.
In 1861, Maggie is the daughter of a senator at the outbreak of the Civil War, navigating a capital full of Southern spies and wounded soldiers. In 1941, she is a navy nurse, grappling with her knowledge of the future when she joins a hospital ship going to Pearl Harbor. And in 2001, she's a brilliant young medical student, fulfilling her dream of becoming a surgeon.
While Maggie has sworn off romance until she makes her final choice, an intriguing man tugs at her heart in each era, only complicating the impossible decision she must make, which looms ever closer. With so much on the line, how can Maggie choose just one life to keep and the rest to lose?"

🩺 The concept of this book really intrigued me when I was deciding what books to choose for this quarter. It did not disappoint. The three different timelines were easy to follow, and each story was told so well. I had no idea which path she would choose or what I would have done in her situation.
While this did mention it was the 2nd in the series, I had no problem following along, as though it could be a standalone as well. I definitely want to go back and read the first one now, though.
A sweet, historical romance I highly suggest you check out!

In a Nutshell: A worthy second book in the Timeless series. The focus is slightly more on romance this time around, which is why it didn’t work as the first book well for me. But it’s still an imaginative work. Better if read in order, though this can be tried as a standalone.

Story Synopsis:
Thanks to her time-crossing parents. Maggie is born with the special ability of living three lives simultaneously – in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night, when she goes to sleep in one period, she wakes up in the next one, without losing any time in the earlier life.
In 1861, the country lies at the brink of the Civil War and Maggie is forced to assist her senator dad at hosting parties rather than help the wounded soldiers.
In 1941, she is a naval nurse, struggling with her knowledge of what’s going to happen in Pearl Harbor at the end of the year.
In 2001, she is an overachieving medical student, trying to fulfil her dream of becoming a surgeon at least in one timeline.
Maggie knows that once she turns twenty-one, she will have to choose one of these lives, forfeiting the other two forever. But with beloved ones, plenty of medical challenges, and a romantic interest in each life, how on earth is Maggie to choose?
The story comes to us in the first person perspective of Maggie.

I had been blown away by ‘When the Day Comes’, the first book of this series, when I read it in May last year and spent the whole year waiting for this sequel. While it didn’t work as well as the first one for me, I still enjoyed it tremendously.

Bookish Yays:
😍 Yet again, the author’s imagination won me over. Three physical bodies, one unified mind? A girl who can live simultaneous lives in three distinct times? And we the readers can read this without any difficulty in accepting the complicated concept because there seem to be no loopholes in logic? And nothing feels exaggerated in the time-slip aspects? What impressive creativity and writing!
😍 Imagine writing three historical timelines with perfect attention to detail in each. All the three years of Maggie’s time-crossing life come alive in terms of their atmosphere and character detailing. Brava, author! Loved the historical research and accuracy.
😍 Luckily for me, this time around, I was far better equipped with the historical knowledge needed to grasp the plot better, because the American Civil War, WWII & Pearl Harbor, and 9/11 are all events I know pretty well about. So the historical content was easier for me to comprehend. (This of course won’t be an issue to US readers.)
😍 Maggie is quite intent on being a healer, and this manifests well in all three timelines, despite the vast difference in their medical knowhow. Her struggles on using the knowledge from the modern timelines in the historical ones come out well. Through Maggie’s medical interests, the book also highlights how the role of women changed in the field of medicine over the years.
😍 The book covers multiple genres, though it is a historical fiction at heart. The timeslip elements bring in a sort of magical realism to the flow, and there’s also romance. Mixed genre books are always more fun to read.
😍 The book is also marked as ‘Christian Fiction’, and this shows in the regular faith-based thoughts that Maggie has when she asks for divine guidance in helping her choose the right timeline, and also when she tries to understand why God isn’t giving her what she most wants. Though the faith elements were greater in intensity this time, I appreciate how they were genuinely interwoven into the plot as a moral compass for Maggie rather than being too preachy or simply throwing in biblical verses in the plot.
(That said, I feel I should point out that there are many romantic kissing scenes between unmarried couples in this book, which some Christian readers don’t prefer in this genre. I was okay with these; they were not vulgar at least to my eyes.)
😍 Despite the length of the book, it is quite fast-paced and contains very little rambling. I didn’t feel like I was reading a 410+ page book at all.
😍 There were some interesting secondary characters in the story, though they don’t get much page space because of the extensiveness of Maggie’s three lives. It was nice to see Libby and her family getting some focus. Of the three love interests, two are written well.
😍 The ending is amazing. I love how the author manages to tie everything together neatly despite there being so many complicated subparts in each tale.
(Also, I did NOT see that ending coming! Is it indicating a possible continuation to the series? I sure hope so!)
😍 Don’t miss the author’s note at the end, detailing the factual elements of the plot and where she took liberty with the facts. I adore authors making such efforts to present to us a clear picture of the accuracy of the historical content.

Bookish Nays:
😕 Unlike in the first book, the stories across the timelines seemed quite similar. Maggie’s social and financial status is the same in all three, as is her interest in medicine. All three years have characters somehow connected to politics and other topics of national interest. All three have a man entering Maggie’s life on the same day, with her spending a great deal of the book wondering whom she likes best. In other words, though the historical situation was vastly different, the basic plot across the three years felt the same. This was the biggest reason why this sequel didn’t work for me as much as the first one did, because the first had not only two distinct time periods (with no overlap of themes) but also distinct financial situations. (Libby being wealthy in one and poor in the other.)
😕 Again, unlike the first book, romance gets the central focus this time, with Maggie’s interest in medicine coming a close second. I would have preferred it the other way around, though readers who enjoy romance stories will enjoy the love triangle. (Or should it be called “love quadrilateral” because there are three guys and one girl?)
😕 Unlike Libby in the first book, Maggie has a confident go-getter personality. But she still didn’t endear me as much as Libby did, partly because of how confused she was over the three guys, and partly because her track didn’t have multiple layers. It was just love and medicine. The themes were better explored in the first book.
😕 I didn’t understand why Maggie’s parents in the 2001 timeline, who are modern in every other way, were so insistent on seeing her in a relationship. She was just twenty! This angle made sense in the other two timelines, but not for 2001.
😕 The writing gets a bit repetitive at times because of Maggie’s first person thoughts delving on the same issues again and again.
(Three of my points of criticism come from comparison. So I guess I would have enjoyed this sequel better had I not sought to replicate the high I had after reading Timeless #1.)

All in all, I did enjoy this book a lot, but I guess the first one was so exceptional that this sequel, while brilliant, felt a little bit short. Nevertheless, it is still a fine example of creative writing and historical research working in a harmonious blend. If there is indeed a third book, I am definitely on board!
Though this book can be read as a standalone, it will be far better if you read the series in order, as the details of time-crossing are better explained in the first book.

3.75 stars.

My thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for the DRC of “In This Moment”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Christian fantasy at its best. Maggie is a time crosser, living in 1861, 1941, and 2001, witnessing some of the most significant events in America: the Civil War, World War II, and 9/11. By her 21st birthday, she must decide which path she wants to stay in. Best to read her parents’ story, When the Day Comes, first. Fun to imagine what a time crossing life would be like.

You can’t play God, Maggie. All God wanted from her was to take a step of faith.

Maggie was a time-crosser. She experienced life in three different times - 1861, 1941 and 2001 - at least this is when we meet her. Imagine all the incredible history she has been living through! Now that she is almost 21, she will have to decide which period she wants to stay in for the rest of her life. What a dilemma!

Wishing that God would tell her what to do, her parents remind her that she does not need to make this harder than it needs to be. She will have to decide who she feels she cannot live without. Her passion to fix all that is hurting finally brings her to the point of realizing that she has to let go and trust God. But is she prepared to do that?

This early copy of Timeless - 2 was received through Bethany House Publishers, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
