✨BOOK REVIEW✨
‘In This Moment’ by Gabrielle Meyer 📚
"In moments like this, I had to turn my prayers heavenward, hoping God was listening, as I asked Him to guide my steps when I wasn't sure which was to go." - Margaret Clark
Margaret is a time-crosser; a unique gift given by God, the Author of life. She bears a sunburst birthmark over her heart, inherited from her mother, which sends her into the future, and a birthmark on the back of her neck, inherited from her father, which sends her into the past. She lives three lives in 1861, 1941 and 2001. She is one person, one conscious mind, set in identical bodies. Her conscious mind travels back and forth, accumulating experiences from each path to create one unique person.
At 20 years old, she is nearing her 21st birthday when she will be required to choose which path to continue in for the rest of her life; she cannot continue on all three paths. Whichever life she chooses, she forfeits the other timelines where her body dies.
Set during these three monumental and devastating periods of history, the events woven throughout are fascinating, and Gabrielle brings these periods to life in a fresh and exciting way. It was such a joy to explore these pivotal periods of the past, no longer simply dates and facts from a textbook, but gut-wrenching, hope-filled and inspiring milestone moments of change.
"In This Moment" is historical fiction at its absolute best! It is a fast-paced, time-travelling, split-time novel that doesn't fit easily in a genre box, but for the best reasons. It is singular in story-telling and plot while also taking a hope-filled approach to themes such as womanhood, equality, healing and God's sovereignty.
I absolutely loved it! - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have been waiting for book 2 in this series since finishing book 1 and it didn’t disappoint. I thought it might be hard to keep three time-traveling timelines straight but it wasn’t. Maggie’s story was so well done. She was an inspiring character, an aspiring doctor, who travels through 3 difficult times in American history - all so different yet similar.

We see Margaret in 1861 at the outbreak of the Civil War; Maggie in 1941, the US on the verge of WWII and the attack on Pearl Harbor; and finally, Meg in 2001 in the months before 9/11. When she falls asleep in 1861, she wakes up in 1941, then in 2001, before returning to 1861. This kept me reading as I had to know what happened next. Each time period holds its challenges and a potential romance, and on her 21st birthday, she must choose one time period to stay in forever, sacrificing everything and everyone she knows in the other two.

I read In This Moment in a little over 24 hours (I stayed up way too late!) because I had to know how it would all play out and which timeline she would choose. I now can’t wait for book 3.

Another intriguing, history-filled time-crossing story from Gabrielle Meyer! I’ve been excited for In This Moment since reading the epilogue of When the Day Comes, and now I’m in the same situation waiting for book three. I was kept guessing throughout the story about the decisions Maggie would make, and although some of my hunches were correct, I was definitely surprised at many points. If you enjoy historical fiction with unique twists, this is the series for you. 4.5/5 stars

You’ll want to pick this up! A time travel romance novel that Historical fiction and contemporary readers will love to read. A fascinating > and provocative book with three amazing storylines masterfully written.

Maggie inherited a gift from her time-crossing parents that allows her to live three separate lives in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night she goes to sleep in one time period and wakes up in another. Until that is, she turns twenty-one, when she will have to forfeit two of those lives--and everyone she knows in them--forever. In 1861, Maggie is the daughter of an influential senator, In 1941, she is a Navy nurse, in 2001, she's a medical student> And an intriguing man tugs at her heart in each era. She's drawn to each man in different ways, only complicating the impossible decision she must make. With so much on the line, how can Maggie choose just one life to keep and the rest to lose?

I cannot say enough good things about this book! A truly brilliant, formidable novel, The writing is incredible and the plot are just one to die for, I highly recommend reading both books in the series, because they are exciting, romantic, and emotional. I hope there is a third book!

Gabrielle Meyer has another hit with _In This Moment_!

Historical- and contemporary-fiction fans alike will enjoy this timeslip novel, which ups the ante from book 1 in the series (When the Day Comes) and slips between three very (and yet not so very) different years: 1861, 1945, and 2001. 2001 proved even more interesting than I expected; it brought back a lot of memories. I also caught myself forgetting that the MC wouldn't actually know about 9/11--since she knew, had studied, and could look up things about 1861 and 1945, even if she couldn't share them with anyone else. That proved a really interesting and bittersweet dynamic--me feeling much like she must have when she went to her historical times!

The whole timeslip process as presented in this series is so fascinating. I really enjoyed having another book in the series to flesh it out a bit more (and I think there may be a third as well)--woo hoo! It's definitely outside my norm, in a good way, challenging me mentally and as a reader--to "get" (as best one can!) how it works, and broaden my horizons.

I was truly caught up in each storyline, and wondered, a la Kathleen Kelly reading _Pride and Prejudice_, whether the MC would get together with the man I hoped she would (which might have changed a few times over the course of the read). Hah!

Fascinating and satisfying on all the levels. I do hope my desire for a third book is realized; we shall see!

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

After reading the first book in this series I knew immediately I had to read the second. The premise is so new and fresh. I love how this book took us to three time periods all in the midst of wars on US home soil. The twists and turns keep me flipping page after page. I loved this one even more than the first. I really hope there is a book three!

I loved the first book in the series, and I was excited to read this next installment. Meyer has crafted a unique sequel, where the heroine time travels through three key points in American history: the Civil War (1861), WWII (1941), and 9/11 (2011). It's clear that the story is well researched. There's a bit of a romance angle, as Maggie has a love interest in each time period, and it's interesting to see how that plays into her decision of which time to choose to stay in. (And I'm not sure I would've chosen the same one she did.) It is helpful to read the prior book, as the time-traveling gene isn't spelled out in this book as much as it was in the first one. I like the medical theme that was woven through all three time periods. This book had more of a romance angle that I would've preferred, as it seemed to be the key deciding factor for Maggie, and it was more of a main point that in the first book in the series. I really enjoyed the twist at the end that paves the way for a another book. The pace was a bit slower, and it took me a bit longer to engage with than the first book, but I do look forward to upcoming installments, if the author chooses to do so!

In This Moment was a great read, keeping me engaged the whole time. It was difficult to put down due to the "what is going to happen in life #". Even with the chapter changes, I never forgot or felt like I was hanging on to the previous chapter.
The MC had a lot of hard choices throughout the book and I think that the author handled addressing them perfectly.
I hope that ending means that there is going to be a third book.

I thought for sure since the first book was so unique and incredible there was no way the second could also live up to that. I was way wrong!

Three time periods that are fascinating on their own, then you add in the element of one person timecrossing and you can’t look away! These time periods came to life in this book. I enjoyed the real people in history being fictionalized and come to life. I know it’s not exact, but it made history seem more real.

Maggie is such a fantastic main character and following her was fantastic. Her personality is full of love and selflessness. All the side characters were full of life and contributed so much to the story.

This series is one of my absolute favorites! The ending… ugh… there WILL be a next book right?!?!?

Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for the advanced copy of this book. These opinions are my own.

"Suffering is not the worst thing in this world. We all suffer. Letting your grief hold you back from living is the true travesty."

The premise of the first book was fascinating and innovative but Gabrielle Meyer takes it up a notch in this sequel. Maggie lives not just two lives but three during three different time periods. In 1861, she is Margaret, the daughter of a Senator. In 1941, she is Maggie, a Naval nurse, granddaughter of a Congressman, and daughter of two time-crossers. In 2001, she is Meg, a medical student and daughter of the President's social secretary. Each time period has a war looming and the political activity and environment at our capitol during these time periods is fascinating. I loved seeing the changes in Washington DC and The White House through Maggie's eyes. It's truly amazing how the author writes so clearly and reveals each subplot so coherently that there is no confusion as the reader moves through the time periods with Maggie every chapter. The first person narrative is fresh, honest, raw, and true to a twenty year old struggling with the biggest decision of her life. And those plot twists! There are quite a few so be prepared for some jaw drops and going back several pages to make sure you read the words correctly. The faith lesson of learning to let go and leaving God in control is a good reminder for all of us.

What a fun journey this has been! Will there be a third book in the series? I sure hope so.

I received the book from Bethany House via Interviews & Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

In This Moment by Gabrielle Meyer in the second book in the Timeless series. Maggie lives three separate lives at the same time. What? No really she does and that is what makes this story so fascinating. She wakes up each day in either 1861, 1941 and 2001. She is the same person with all her knowledge but in a different time. But by January 1 she must decide which life she wants to stay in permanently. How will she choose?

The author seamlessly weaves together the time periods with Maggie at the center. It was fascinating to think about trying to live in three different time periods with knowledge of the future and first hand experience of the past. The author deftly brings the reader through each time period sharing wonderful characters, historical details, and great heroes. The stories in each time period were so well developed that I was very torn as to which one Maggie should choose. I was so invested in this story!

This will be one of my favorite books of 2023. In This Moment literally held me captive and I stayed up way too late to finish. I was intrigued from the beginning and the ending was beautiful. I loved Maggie's relationship with God. I highly recommend In this Moment by Gabrielle Meyer. You need this book!

Margaret Wakefield inherited her time travel gene from her parents. She can only visit 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each day she wakes up in one of those years. She leads a separate life in each, including different families and different love interests. The one common thread is her love for medicine. She works alongside Clara Barton, and other figures from each time period. The most important caveat is she cannot change the course of history by her knowledge of the future. On her 21st birthday, she must choose the one time period she will remain in.
The author has successfully woven all three time periods with the historical events of each era.
This is the second in a series, and I thoroughly enjoyed both books. It’s refreshing to read a book that is suitable for young adults to senior adults.

I loved the first book in the Timeless series so I was curious to find out if this novel would be as amazing, and it exceeded my expectations. Each of the three timelines held my attention throughout the entire book, they moved seamlessly, they were all intriguing, each of the supporting characters were interesting and the storylines were masterfully written.

I loved Maggie in 1861 where she is the daughter of an influential senator, Maggie the Navy Nurse in 1941 and the medical student, Maggie in 2001. All of those were trying times in history and I loved how she navigated through each time period, I certainly didn’t envy her lives or the choice she would have to make by her when she turns 21. I was both surprised and happy with the choice she ultimately made.
Overall, I thought this was a fascinating novel with well-crafted characters and three amazing storylines. I strongly recommend reading both books in the series because they are terrific.

I received a copy from the publisher though Netgalley. Opinions are my own

In This Moment
by Gabrielle Meyer
Publisher: Bethany House
Series: Book 2 in the Timeless series
Rated: 2
Obtain: Borrow
Back of the Book: “Maggie inherited a gift from her time-crossing parents that allows her to live three separate lives in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night, she goes to sleep in one time period and wakes up in another. Until she turns twenty-one, when she will have to forfeit two of those lives--and everyone she knows in them--forever.
In 1861, Maggie is the daughter of a senator at the outbreak of the Civil War, navigating a capital full of Southern spies and wounded soldiers. In 1941, she is a navy nurse, grappling with her knowledge of the future when she joins a hospital ship going to Pearl Harbor. And in 2001, she's a brilliant young medical student, fulfilling her dream of becoming a surgeon.
While Maggie has sworn off romance until she makes her final choice, an intriguing man tugs at her heart in each era, only complicating the impossible decision she must make, which looms ever closer. With so much on the line, how can Maggie choose just one life to keep and the rest to lose?”

Impressions: This book left me with mixed feelings. I didn’t care for the mixture of faith and time crossing. It just didn’t jive with me. I spent most of the book feeling at odds with the faith based comments in regards to time crossing because it is literally not how God created things. I couldn’t stretch my imagination on this one. That being said each story line was interesting and easy to read. Maggie is unable to share her future knowledge with those of the past but it is near impossible to not as she is a doctor in 2001. I think this made the premise of her time crossing difficult to believe. You can’t fake who you are for a lifetime. I didn’t feel she would be able to live in 3 different times and be authentic in any of them without the honesty of her situation. Maggie struggles with this concept and ends up sharing her secret with a few people in different timelines. Their response is oddly calm however. I could not get over the details of this story.

LOVED THIS SO MUCH.

This book took me on a JOURNEY y’all. And I loved every moment. I read the first book as an audiobook so I wasn’t quite sure how it would translate to me reading in print, but don’t worry, Meyer’s crafts beautiful stories no matter the media.

I loved seeing how Maggie worked through deciding which place would be best for her to stay. Each time period is in a critical war era and clearly so much research has been done to bring the historical aspects to life. The transitioning chapters kept the pacing going and had me on pins and needles wondering what would happen next.

The romance starts off as a bit of a love square, but never fear, I loved the way each time period and love interest was handled. Even when I became undecided between the two I really appreciated how everything worked out in the end. It felt true to each of the characters.

I loved this book so much. I just have to say it again. The faith journey also hit me in the soul. I liked that it didn’t feel preachy or forced, but rather more real and impactful.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT BOOK.

Overall audience notes:

Christian Historical Romance
Language: none
Romance: kisses
Violence: mild-high
Trigger/Content Warnings: war themes (Civil War, Pearl Harbor and 9/11), loss of life, chronic illness (celiac disease)

In this fascinating juxtaposition of historical settings, Meyer weaves a compelling tale of a woman who leads three lives. Her motivations for which path she will eventually choose were explored in depth and the suspense of which choice was right for her was deftly handled. I thoroghly enjoyed this story with it's rich historical details! I can say that while I could not tell the end from the beginning, I loved the memorable journey and was delighted by the conclusion!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

I have been made speechless by In This Moment. Which comes as absolutely no shock to me as I was utterly obsessed with When the Day Comes. I loved how the basic time crossing concept was similar to the first book (which yes you'll want to read if you haven't! It was one of my favorite reads last year) but there were some major differences as Maggie had three paths she was living (1861, 1941, and 2001) because she bore the mark of both of her parents who were both time crossers. This series is just turning into something I didn't know I needed but I can't get enough of.

When Maggie spoke of how war was looming in her 1861 and 1941 paths but thankfully not in her 2001 path, I think I made an audible noise of some kind. Having very vivid memories of 9/11, it was very ironic to have that future insight, just like Maggie had insight to some events of the Civil War and World War II that she had to live with in those paths, knowing she could not knowingly change the future. As the time ticked away to that date, it felt more and more tense as a reader with knowledge the character didn't have. I won't say more because I don't want to spoil anything but certain moments made me close the book to take some breaths.

Full confession guys, I totally read parts of the end of the book to see which path she chose and yet somehow this book was written in such an incredible way that I found myself holding my breath every time Maggie questioned which path to choose! Like I knew the ending and I was still so sucked into it. Imagine how sucked in normal people who don't read spoilers would be! Another confession, I personally found the chemistry between Maggie and one particular gentleman (won't say who!) to be the only choice in my personal opinion. The others were more meh. But she definitely had valid reasons for wanting to stay in each of her paths and the push and pull was so intriguing.

I cannot recommend these books enough!! Seriously. And the epilogue setting up yet another unique twist for what I assume could be book 3?? Um yes please!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.

Much like the first book, this one had me thinking long after I read the last page. Part of that has to do with the time-crossing and all the questions I have (many of which were explained in this book), but also this book had a lot of deep things that I needed to mull over.

The title of this book is "In This Moment" and that is the main takeaway for me. To cope with her many paths, Maggie had to learn how to let things go from the two paths she wasn't in and live just in the moment. It was inspiring and encouraging to me. I am not great at just living in the moment so Maggie's lessons were helpful.

Maggie was most relatable with her anger and her honest conversations with God. Over and over she struggles with her burdens, the weight of the decision that looms before her, and her frustration that God doesn't seem to be offering her any help with making it.

Anger, grief, and loss are present all through the book. There are deep truths and the things Maggie thinks about and the advice she gets all helped me process and look at things in a new way.

The reason this is four stars instead of five is rather ridiculous but it did matter to me. I struggled with the time periods chosen. They are challenging for me. I had to skim Pearl Harbor. Plus, I'm not into medicine at all and that was Maggie's biggest motivator so it made her harder to relate to. I also was kind of sad that there wasn't much of Libby and Henry in this one because Maggie doesn't spend much time with her families.

A few random things that I wanted to note:
- It was interesting how all the paths revolved around politics and the White House in some way.
- Just like the first book, there are heartbreaking goodbyes. I hate the goodbyes.
- In both books, I somehow feel like the marked parents are the "real" parents and I find myself always rooting for the child to get to stay with their marked family.
- The "rules" seemed more relaxed for Maggie than for Libby. Or at least, Maggie takes more liberties. Still, I'm kind of glad because it means she has someone who can be there for her in each path.

This book is heart-felt, thought-provoking, and deeply inspiring. I highlighted a bunch of parts because they spoke to me so much. While book one is my favorite, this was a great sequel and part of me hopes there is going to be a third book!

Anyone who thoroughly enjoyed When the Day Comes by this author last year is in for a treat! The author has chosen triple lives for Maggie to navigate, in particular, 2001, 1941 and 1861. She cleverly uses details that have historical significance for each of these time frames. It is notable that each path has wartime or a potential threat of war, which just adds another layer of tension to the novel. I admit to NOT being a time travel fan, but this one is different since the person travels to a different time and wakes up in another time period each time they sleep. The clincher is that when they reach a certain age, they MUST choose which time period to remain in for the rest of their life. Whew! That’s a tough choice for anyone. This one didn’t grab my interest quite as quickly as the first book in the Timeless series, but I became quite invested about halfway through.
I have read and thoroughly enjoyed When the Day Comes by the author which is still my favorite. Both novels in the Timeless series are completely stand-alone. Ms. Meyer has a wonderful backlist which I intend to peruse.
I received an e-copy of this book from Net Galley and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Maggie wakes up every morning in one of three different time periods. She lives a separate life in 1861, 1941 and 2001. In each life, she has a family she loves but by her twenty-first birthday, she will have to choose which life to stay in.

I love a good time travel story and this one was just wonderful. This story consumed me for a day. I rarely finish a book in a day but I could not put it down. I love the concept of waking up every morning in a different time. I was so torn with which path I would have chosen if I were in Maggie’s shoes. In each time, Maggie has reasons to want to stay. Whether it be because of family, her career, or possibly falling in love, her decision is not an easy one. Maggie has to trust the Lord as she navigates each life.

This story was captivating with several heart wrenching moments, especially a huge plot twist in the middle that I didn’t see coming! My only advice is when you begin this book, make sure you have the entire day available to read!! Because you are not going to want to put this book down!

Thanks for Netgalley and Bethany House for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
