This book contains 100 terms pertaining to architecture arranged with illustrations. As someone who has a deep love of architecture I really learned a lot and felt inspired to seek out in the real world many of the terms mentioned in the book, like riyad and the designs of Kengo Kuma. Highly recommend for any budding architect or architecture lover.

A great little book and a great introduction into the world of Architecture. I feel this field isn't covered enough as a career option and I'm thrilled to see a book available for young lityle minds!

From Lego to 3D printers, Dame Zaha Hadid, Kengo Kuma, from Pyramid to Micro Home. This book consist of so many ideas in "100 things to know", more than 100, if I may add. In "Disassembly" part, they talk about buildings' scraps that create unrecyclable waste, so the architects now thinks about how to create buildings that can be recycled and repurposed. A very interesting book to read, with purposeful illustrations.

What a great reference and idea book. A perfect companion for teaching about building and structure design.

This is an interesting offering for younger readers interested in the subject, however, I wish the entries had been presented in some sort of order - perhaps chronological, or even alphabetical. The first few pages go from villages to skyscrapers to LEGO!???!

On the plus side, Leanne Daphne's illustrations are a delight, and I like that concepts are included as well as architects, movements, and famous buildings.

Despite its flaws, this book would make a good addition to any school or public library for the information it contains.

Fascinating reading for elementary/middle grades! The text is very engaging and readable--this will definitely hold kids' attention and inspire their curiosity about architecture. The illustrations are full of detail and include lots of recognizable buildings and concepts (including Minecraft!) that young readers will connect with. This would be an awesome addition to school and classroom libraries!

A young academically-minded, young reader will be enthused and easily engrossed in this wonderful compilation of things that spell 'architecture,' I believe. Various aspects such as the history of buildings; world-famous architects, symmetry; light; Lego; pyramids and environmentally congruent edifices that blend into their surrounds with finesse, can be learned about.

There is so much more, that can be discovered within the pages of this educational children's book. Each entry is short and to the point and accompanied by lovely pictures to illustarte. Each aspect is well contained so a reader can stop and start to consider without feeling rushed. It's something like Lego pieces themselves. The interested reader can take his or her time to build one bit of knowledge one piece at a time, constructing and grasping in their minds, the individual subject matter that will fit together with the next and the next, pieces. I believe this would be a great gift for any child who yearns for scientific input.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto for the ARC of this!

A good introduction to architectural concepts, my kids had no trouble following along. I really liked the illustrations. The individual pages/descriptions were a reasonable amount of text to read aloud.

Perfect introduction for children who are curious and interested in buildings. 100 Things to Know About Architecture by Louise O’Brien and Leanne Daphne wrote the book for young minds.
Actually, this book makes how things are made accessible for young minds. I even loved it and enjoyed reading it. Each page has excellent illustrations by Dàlia Adillon of each iconic structure discussed. That makes it perfect for kids, they will read about an iconic design and be able to visually see what they have just read about. 100 Things to Know About Architecture also includes the architects that have built some of those iconic structures. A well-written book keeps its audience, children, at the forefront with its descriptions and information. This is that book.

Not only are you getting descriptions of structures and information on the architects who envisioned them. There is more because your children will learn about architectural styles. In fact, this is how in-depth this book goes, a perfect summation for any child that has an interest in architecture or is a curious being.

In addition, be prepared to pull out some Legos or even a 3D programming app after your child has read this book.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me access to this ahead of publication.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this not only for its accessibility but also for its variety of themes, styles, and connections. I'm also extremely happy about all the architectural styles of different countries and cultures are explored, and very impressed by the author's note where she talks about all the sustainable ways the indigenous peoples can teach us and how those can form a city landscape.
The glossary and index are also great additions to this and I'm overall very excited for this book to circulate and make it's way to our classrooms too!

I reqlly enjoyed reading this book all about architecture. I thought it sounded interesting and I didn't realise how accessible it would be. There are different terms linked to architecture such as space, sketch, city, ecosystem, microhome as well as different buildings such as Sydney Opera House and architects such as Sir David Adjaye. Each term has its own page with a beautiful illustration of the building or an example to support the definition as well as paragraph to explain it. It was really interesting and I learned a lot but also it made me want to research some things even further.

This book absolutely blew me away. 100 Things to Know About Architecture covers a wide range of the world of architecture with everything from building types, types of designs to famous buildings and architects. A wonderful guide for budding architects recommended for ages 5-8 but as a parent I also learned some very interesting facts and really enjoyed the book. I loved the illustrations and thought the explanations on each page were well thought out and interesting. My only note would be that I would have loved to see the book done in categories like types of buildings, landmarks, architects as I found it jumped around a little but each page was like a surprise.

100 Things to Know About Architecture will certainly be added to our family library to enjoy for many years! :)

The wonderful illustrations make this book a pleasure to flip through, and also make the information even more interesting and engaging. I agree that it would make a great gift for young curious minds.

This book has everything you want to know about architecture! I learned a lot from this book and I’m a Grandmother. I was very interested in the story of Legos and happy to see it included. A lot of children's love of architecture starts with Legos. This book is very detailed and incudes a great glossary and index in the back. This book is for anyone to read just to learn. I was impressed by the all the different types of structures from around the world.

This book was beautifully illustrated and full of great information to motivate curious minds interested in learning more. The issue I had though was the organization of the book. It's literally one hundred items strung together with now particularly good was to find out more about a certain subject or go back and find something after the fact without looking through all 100 pages again.

As a child, my dream was (and still is!) to become an architect. I fell in love with this art long ago but unfortunately didn't have these many ressources back then to discover more about it. So finding this beautifully illustrated book gave me so much pleasure! I didn't know most of the info in this book so I had a great time reading it!

This book is fantastic! As the title suggests, the book is mage up of 100 pages of information and beautiful illustrations of concepts related to architecture. Beyond just designing buildings, this book looks into concepts like structures, famous architects, famous structures, 3D printing and structures in nature, to name a few. It would be the perfect addition to my unit on structures in Grade 3 science and would also make a great gift for children interested in learning about the history and the science behind the structures around us. There are a few lines of text per page with enough information to get a reader interested, provoking interest but not overloading them on any particular subject, there are 100 after all! The book ends with information about eco friendly structures, a glossary, index and list of structures featured in the book. I would definitely recommend this book for children in the age 8-11 range, but it could definitely be of interest to older or younger readers. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this awesome book!

I truly enjoyed reading through this picture book about architecture. It is filled with terms, shapes, styles, structures, movements, designers, pioneering architects, famous buildings. It also includes mentions of toys like Legos and games like Minecraft for helping to understand architecture. The illustrations are in color and I was thrilled to recognize many buildings and places of have visited in my travels. But this book is supposed to be for children 5-8 years old. I found many concepts to be more advanced than grade K-3 readers will be able to read and understand for themselves. And while it is clever to have 100 word descriptions on each page, that is a lot for younger aged readers. I also thought the layout was problematic. Instead of grouping into categories like historical structures, shapes or architects, the order is random. It is a book of terms and each term has no relation to what comes before or after it in the book. The architecture lover in me enjoyed this book and found it informative. But it isn’t something I would purchase for an elementary school library for younger readers. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, Happy Yak for the temporary ARC. (3.5 stars)

I'm a bit torn by this book. I like the concept and adore the illustrations, but the content was a bizarre. The book covered a random assortment of architectural movements (like Art Deco, brutalism, etc.), architects (Zaha Hadid, Frank Ghery, etc.), types of structures (arenas, bridges, huts, etc.), individual buildings (Guggenheim, Angkor Wat, Bubble Palace, etc.), and general concepts (humanity, team, positive, etc.). There was absolutely zero organization or any sense of flow which I found both distracting and frustrating. Like I said, I really like the illustrations and liked that most were of a specific real-world example of whatever the page was focused on. I was pleased to find several things that I have seen among the illustrations.
