I mean, what else can I say about this book other than it is another excellent addition to the Rebel Girls series. This is the first one I’ve read that has been more focused. To be honest, the majority of the girls in this book were new to me, which made it a much more interesting read and meant that I learned a lot too!

The book is targeted at ages 8-11 but really they are for everyone. I’d certainly recommend reading Animal Allies to much younger children to get them excited about animals and open their eyes to the many careers out there that involve working work animal. They stories also provide great talking points and the illustrations are beautiful.

This book highlights the work of women who are working to protect animals around the world. Each "animal ally" is featured in a two-page spread consisting of a short profile one one page and an illustrated portrait - twenty-five illustrators from around the world contributed to this book - on the other. The women, who represent a range of ages, nationalities (though many are in the US), and professions, were all drawn to animals as children and, in different ways, found opportunities to turn that connection into something bigger.

I think this book would be great for a classroom library or for an animal-loving older elementary student.

This was an interesting read that showcases women who care about animals. I thought the illustrations did a wonderful job of highlighting the animal love that each of the women had. There was a nice balance of showing how a person made their animal love their career and hobby, so people reading this can take inspiration or not.

My daughter and I love reading the Rebel Girls series, but this one was especially fun since it was animal-themed. We enjoy reading these books, with their educational and inspirational stories and vibrant and fun coloring pages. My daughter has seen Bindi Irwin on YouTube, so she was excited to read more about her, as well as discover the other girls.

Haven't read a Rebel Girls book I didn't admire and learn from!
The Rebel Girls books are a great encouragement for the girls who will grow to be the movers, shakers, and fixers of the world they will inherit. The women in this installment are not all well known except in their home countries (or well publicized women like Bindi Irwin and Jane Goodall) and are from countries all around the world, like Australia, Madagascar, Thailand, India, Kenya, and Iraqi Kurdistan. This excellent book is designed to make all think outside the box and act in belief in their opportunity to study and become activists for the animal world before it is destroyed any further.
The illustrations continue to be delightful, imaginative, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Rebel Girls via NetGalley. Thank you!

This book is a good starting point for any animal-mad kids to learn about some people who have made waves to help our planet and the animals on it. I found that the info on each person was too short for me, although I did find it nice that some had additional info via a QR code. I do feel that some of it was too simplistic for the target age range. The illustrations were very nice and the range of people featured was good, including some I hadn't heard of.

We are big Rebel Girls fans in this house and as animal lovers, we were so excited to read this edition. My kids (2+6) enjoy picking a few pages a night and diving into different worlds and experiences. We all learn a lot!
I always appreciate the conversations these books open up and look forward to continuing to reach for them on our shelves as my kids grow.
Thank you Rebel Girls for the digital copy through NetGalley!

I LOVE this. As a conservation biologist myself (thrilled to see red pandas on the cover!!) it makes me so happy that something like this exists for young people today. This is a wonderful collection of stories and examples of how women are working with wildlife (even as an adult in the field I love reading about other inspiring women!) and how we can help make an impact even now. The illustrations are beautiful and I'm looking forward to getting a hard copy for my personal library.

This is the first book in the Rebel Girls installment that I"ve read and now I can't wait to read more!

What a gorgeous book. Interesting and inspiring, each story was a great read. Lovely illustrations that enhanced the tale. Some of women I knew but many I didn’t. A great read that I have passed to my daughter.

Thank you #netgalley for this arc in return for an honest review.

Rebel Girls Animal Allies is the next instalment in the much loved Rebel Girls series. My 4 year old absolutely loved this particular set of inspiring stories because she is a huge animal lover. As always, the illustrations are beautiful and we will need a hard copy to add to our collection!

Thank you to Rebel Girls for this ARC!

This is the first Rebel Girls book I have read, but it is definitely something I will revisit.

I love that the book focuses on the stories of both well known animal advocates and new faces. It shows young girls that they can do things that matter. The book is well written in short shory format with beautiful illustrations to go along with each one. I also love the ideas on how you can start making an impact now.

Would make a great addition to any middle school library!

Kiddo (8) and I really enjoyed this one! There are many inspiring stories about girls and women who are helping and caring for animals. There are also ideas about ways for you to help animals.

Kiddo is very very into cute animals at the moment (The number of stuffed animals he sleeps with just keeps growing) and though he protested reading anything over Christmas break, he was happy to curl up with me and listen to the stories once I cajoled him into listening to "just one." In fact, every time I stopped for a minute to rest my voice he immediately flipped to the next page himself.

We enjoyed the beautiful illustrations that go with each one page story (there were many exclamations of "It's so cute!" about the various animals pictured) and the quotes from each featured girl and woman.

The reading level is a bit higher than kiddo's (3rd grade) just because of how dense the text is on the page. It makes a great read-aloud for kids age 6-9 however, and a slightly older kid could read it on their own. I found it was also helpful to read aloud because of some science words and names of animals kiddo was unfamiliar with that I could explain when he asked as we went along.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for providing an early copy for review.

This is the third book from the Rebel Girls series that we have read. I thought it would be a perfect fit for my 10 year old daughter who wants to be a vet and it certainly was! We read two bios every night before bed. The illustrations were beautifully done. My daughter loved to read the selected quote on each page. I loved the diversity in background for all of the woman picked for this book. There were all kinds of nationalities and all kinds of animal Allies. There were marine biologists, conservationists, vets, animal artists, etc. I also loved that most of the stories told how they did something when they were young so my daughter saw that even kids her own age could make huge impacts on the world. I have yet to be let down by this series of books and this one has been one of our favorites.

I only discovered this series recently and am thoroughly enjoying it. Weirdly enough, although I expected it to be the woman involved with horses that would grab my attention, I found myself repeatedly flashing back to the very first entry on Amanda Vincent and Heather Koldewey. Well, actually it was sorta horse related. Seahorses. I've seen them in various aquariums and always smile watching them seemingly languidly drifting through the water, occasionally wrapping their tails around a clump of seaweed or whatever to suck in food. They look so peaceful, not to mention that it's the males who give birth. Both trapped by fishing nets and hunted for medicinal reasons, they have been the focus of Vincent and Koldewey.

It was fascinating to read about the routes these remarkable women took to find their passion and make a difference. I recall being saddened as a child viewing monkeys and bears jailed in small cages at an area zoo. I was too young to take action, at least too young to realize I might be able to make a difference in their lives, but people like Bella Lacke didn't let age stop her. She wrote a letter to someone who could help. As a child, Jane Goodall's beloved stuffed chimp, Jubilee, surely hinted at her future. Autistic and sent to a special school, Temple Grandin discovered her connection to horses. Birute Caldikas was inspired by the first book she recalls checking out of the library, "Curious George".

Twenty-five animal allies are showcased. They provide inspiration and, who knows, maybe the sense of "If they can do it, so can I" that just might lead us to the next generation of astounding Rebel Girls. If, as an adult reader, you find the stories somewhat limited in content, I'll also note that an icon is provided for scanning to take you to fuller stories online. I didn't check them all out but the ones I did make a point of visiting were worth the effort.

Bottom line, although new to this book series, I'm liking it more and more as I become better acquainted. It's a plus, too, that not only are those showcased from around the world and of different races and backgrounds but 25 different artists from around the world were used to illustrate the different stories. Thank you so much #NetGalley and #RebelGirls for allowing me to visit and get to know these remarkable women. The message I got was that we can make a difference.

I remain, as always, a sucker for the Rebel Girls franchise.

This edition follows the same trusted recipe that started with the very first Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: short descriptions of influential women, accompanied by a one-of-a-kind portrait of the subject.

Rebel Girls Animal Allies is a collection that features women who have made wildlife their life’s work. The editors have made a great effort to represent women across races and cultures: mostly in the USA, some in Canada and the UK, and a couple of women from elsewhere. As with my previous reviews, I do feel that more countries can and should be represented in these collections.

This edition struck me as being more direct about the intersections of feminism and race, rather than painting a generalised picture of a sisterhood of women that “doesn’t see colour”. While this openness may well have been part of the ethos of previous collections, Animal Allies is really the first of the series that has managed to capture it.

Three cheers for the Rebel Girls!

Rebel Girls Animal Allies is an excellent addition to the Rebel Girls titles. It introduces many new to most readers women who are involved in animal rights and activism. This would be a welcome addition to any collection.

I LOVE the Rebel Girl books! This current book is about some amazing women who have done so much for animals. Some I have heard of but many I haven’t. One Sami Bayly does amazing paintings and books on animals! I will definitely be purchasing some for gifts!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read, review and learn from this amazing book!

I love love loved this installment in the Rebel Girls series! Any kind of animal advocacy and conservation is a dear subject to me and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about so many girls in the wildlife space that I did not know about. As with other installments in the series the interactive aspect, art and activities included were perfect for the tone of the book and series itself.
