I really enjoyed this one. Is was quite a quick and easy read and initially felt a bit slow to start and like it was being dragged out a but, after all, if you suspected something then surely you would mention it?! But once I started to get into it then I was hooked. It had more twists and turns than I initially expected and wasn't so cut and dry as it 1st appeared. You'll be pleasantly surprised by this one

I thought this book was great! The characters were beautifully written and there were some really emotional parts of the story where I couldn't help but empathise with the main character. Too often in these books, we only see a relationship once discord has set in, but it packs a much bigger punch when the author lets you see how the relationship was in happier times as was the case here. I honestly think I will be haunted by a particular part of this story for a long time. It wasn't all heavy though, some of the descriptions of the side characters had me laughing out loud!

I did guess the ending quite early on in the book, but there was a lot else going on so there were other surprises to be had. My only other gripe was I'm sure it was mentioned that Maggie and Len ran a business but this was never brought up again, who was running it whilst all of the events unfolded? Maggie never even referenced working or financial concerns.

Overall, I thought this book was great and would absolutely recommend it.

Maggie and Len are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with friends and family, and the body of a young woman is dragged out of a nearby river.
Maggie finds a scarf in the attic that looks like the scarf of the dead woman, and immediately suspects that Len is involved in the young woman's death.
Everything she believed about her loving husband seems to be a lie. And one lie is piled on yet another.

Detective Dan Riley has to untangle these lies and get to the truth.

Oh, I enjoyed this book thoroughly! The characters were well described, and I could feel the tension building up. There was a touch of sadness and tragedy in the main character's life, and misplaced distrust. The book kept me on the edge of my seat, although I had my suspicions of the murderer, but could not work out the 'why' of the murder.

This is the first book I have read by Anna-Lou Weatherly, and it won't be my last.

“The Lie in Our Marriage” is a mystery by Anna-Lou Weatherley. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I’m seriously contemplating reading more. Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. This book is told from two POV - Maggie (married to Len and mother to two adult children) and Dan (a detective/policeman). I liked how the author gave the characters (both main and supporting) enough depth or characteristics to keep them apart from others in the book - and I’ll admit to loving how one character was portrayed for the over-the-topness displayed. There’s a lot of red herrings, a bit of road wanderings (I wouldn’t call them twists), and I was surprised that the author “went there” regarding one character (though I also liked the eventual step-by-step breakdown). I greatly enjoyed the police/detective team and how they were portrayed - it’s always refreshing to read about literal good police who care about finding or uncovering the truth - and also have good banter.

Murder, mystery, lies and secrets and they all come together in this one book that will have you trying to figure out who's telling the truth and who isn't. And every time you think you have a clue on what's going on , bam ,out of nowhere comes a twist that throws you for a loop.

This story kept me guessing with so many red herrings. Eventually, I discerned the ending but not easily. This talented author has written a cannot put down novel. The characters come alive on the pages. Secrets…family and friends…children who are mysterious…a husband who didn’t quite seem to be what he appeared to be…this book was sent to me by Netgalley electronically for review. This is a mystery that is not easy to figure out .

Maggie and Len are celebrating their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. What starts out as a happy celebration turns into an evening filled with mystery for Maggie. The body of a young woman is pulled from a river nearby. Maggie finds a woman's keepsake in her home that doesn't belong to her or her daughter and she begins to wonder if she does have the happy marriage she is celebrating.

As the story goes along the mystery deepens and secrets are uncovered. The author weaves some clever twists with a suspenseful ending that kept me turning the pages until the last word. Definitely a new go-to author for me and I look forward to delving into her backlist.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for this gifted review copy.
