I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This book features sixteen different scientists that work in the field of climate science. As a group, they are diverse, including men and women, people from various backgrounds, and with varying levels of ability. Each scientist tells about how and why they were drawn to their field. They also include advice for others who may face adversity.
I found the different scientists and their projects interesting. This book is a good starting point.

This book is sooo good! I wish I could get a free copy to put in my classroom. I loved how the writers all looked different and had an interesting story related to science. Breaking the Mold is like no other book I've read before. As a science teacher, I plan to use some of the things I read and allow my students to explore various topics that the book focused on! Great job Dana Alison Levy!

Breaking the Mold by Dana Alison Levy centers the stories, work, and life experiences of scientists in the field who often go unheard of or who are marginalized due to the intersections of their identities. These are scientists who do not fit the mold of the traditional stereotype of what many young people might envision when they imagine a scientist- typically an able-bodied, White man.

I love that this collection exists in the world and that children from all walks of life will be able to see their faces and experiences reflected in the biographies of some of the most trailblazing scientists contributing to the field today. Each section focuses on one particular scientist, their work in the field, the contributions to their unique specialities in the field, the barriers they overcame and still must overcome in order to do the work that they do, definitions of terms and most frequently asked questions as well as advice for young people which is my favorite section.

This is a great book for the budding young scientist in your life and one that I can see myself gifting many times over to family, friends, and students. Thank you to the author, contributors, and publisher for the e-arc copy!

A collection of short biographies educating the reader on different people helping the Earth in many different ways.
This book is jam packed with important people students need to be learning about. Climate change is unavoidable today, posing numerous threats to younger generations. Educating children on the many different ways we can work together and help the planet is important. The vibrant colors make the book stand out, literally, from the others on a shelf. This alone will have kids grabbing the book up, but they’ll stay till the last page reading about the diverse characters living within the pages.
