This is a beautiful cookbook full of so much knowledge and expertise! I spent a lot of time reading through this and collecting all of Anna’s expertise on everything from pastry baking to kitchen tools.

All the recipes in this book have a great breakdown of steps with extra little tips sprinkled in to help with handling and preparing the ingredients. I found these ranged from easy (cookies & bars) to more advanced (candies). Everything is so easy to follow, I really enjoyed baking from this book!

My family loved the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and I currently have the chocolate peanut butter & dulce de leche lava cakes ready to enjoy with friends later today 😍

This cookbook is great for all levels of bakers - highly recommended!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are

I found Baking Wisdom a little intimidating to be honest. The first half had a lot of techniques and explanations about tools and ingredients. As a beginner this was useful, but a little scary.

The recipes however are a mix of recipes for all levels and I was even able to made yummy pudding.

Now instead of intimidating the first half are goal

One thing that immediately caught my eye was the beautiful pictures accompanying every recipe. From buttery croissants to decadent tarts, the vibrant photos had my mouth watering and my heart longing to try each recipe.

But it wasn't just the pictures that made this book stand out. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, making even the most complicated recipes seem approachable. I appreciated that the author included helpful tips and tricks, as well as variations on some of the recipes for those who like to experiment in the kitchen.

I decided to put one of the recipes to the test, and I was delighted with the results. The scone recipe was straightforward and yielded perfectly golden, flaky scones with just the right amount of sweetness.

Overall, I highly recommend "Baking Wisdom” to anyone looking for a comprehensive and visually stunning baking cookbook. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, you're sure to find something to love in these pages.

I received a free book and the views and opinions are my own. I enjoyed the tips and recipes so much I purchased a hard cover book. I want to make a lot of the recipes and will be able to use the tips to help me be a better baker. I made the cinnamon knots and all I can say is oh my! Tasty. Cannot wait for my book so I can mark all the recipes I want to make. The next on my list is the seafood chowder pie. This is a great book for both beginners and experienced bakers.

I’ll be honest; I rarely read the first few pages of a cookbook. They always say the same thing. But I read this book cover to cover and it wasn’t the same as every other cookbook at all. I particularly liked the “In a Pinch” chart that offered substitutes for common ingredients in case you run out. The Baking How-To section was another favourite; anything you could ever want to know from caramelizing sugar to tempering chocolate to fixing overwhipped cream (!) all in one well laid out place. This is a book I’ll be referencing again and again and we haven’t even gotten to the recipes yet.

And oh boy, the recipes! I wanted to make everything in the book immediately, but I limited myself to three (for now…): the praline noisette to use in a cake; the sea salt caramel candies; and the chewy brownie cookies (something I could eat every. single. day. So good.).

Each of the three recipes I tried turned out perfectly. The recipes were clear and easy to follow, included all the necessary information, and were perfectly balanced.

The book (and each recipes) is well laid out and easy to read, there are notes about what you can do ahead of time, suggestions for ingredient substitutions if you don't have something, and every recipe has pictures so you know exactly what it should look like (and whether you want to try making it) at a glance.

Overall, this is a book I’ll be coming back to again and again.

I found the recipes in this Baking book of Wisdom fantastic! They are crystal clear, with excellent photos for the finished product. I really like that Olson rated the difficulty of each recipe. Although I may not use all recipes, I do like that some European faves are captured in the book, along with a brief 'history'; one recipe I had forgotten since a child! I think this is an excellent book if you are a baking aficionado or foodie who loves to bake. Well done!

I have watched Anna Olson on TV since I discovered her show a few years back and I was pleasantly surprised to find out she had a new book out. The book did not disappoint! It is the perfect baking book from beginners and experienced bakers. It has something for everyone. I particularly loved her alfajores recipe as it is close to my heart but you can find recipes from all over the world. She also explains step by step how baking works, the chemistry behind it, gives you tips and tricks. Anything you want to know about baking you will find it in this book. I promise once you buy this book you will not need any other baking book in your kitchen!

I was so excited to get the opportunity to checkout @chefannaolson new baking cookbook because:

1. This girl never met a dessert she didn't like 🤤

2. Anna's recipes are ALWAYS winners

and this book has not changed either of those facts 🙌🏻

The recipes are easy to understand, wonderfully laid out and accompanied by beautiful food photography. Most importantly, everything is delicious! I've made three of the recipes so far and they were all great, with these peanut butter banana cookies being my fave so far! I was also happy to see lots of unique recipes in here, as I'm a girl with a lot of cookbooks so there are often repeats for me.

Definitely a must have for anyone who likes a little treat to go with their daily read 🍪📚 no pro baker skills required!

Thanks so much to @penguinrandomca and @netgalley for the advanced copy!

I was very pleased to get the message that my request to look at this book was granted. The description provided is entirely adequate and tells you everything you need to know about the book. What you get however is the PDF, which is impressive, but a bit awkward to negotiate, so that you end up moving around each page a you try to read sections of the text. It certainly whets my appetite and I would indeed like to add this volume to my collection. I frankly doubt that i would actually make many of these confections since I already have issues with my waist line - and type 2 diabetes. Sugar, it seems, it not something that can readily be substituted.

What I actually bake most often these days is bread, known - very inaccurately - as "sourdough". None of these recipes use that technique - although one does refer to a "starter" it also calls for instant dried yeast. The popularity of sourdough rocketed when commercial yeasts became unavailable at the start of the pandemic. I am pretty sure that bread raised this way can be adapted to pizzas and other baking - but that is missing here.

Not only that but without the ease of use offered by a printed book I doubt that if someone doesn't make me a present of it I will probably find some other way. It is well written, beautifully presented and well worth the asking price. And, as long as you have a routine that burns off surplus calories, I am sure you will enjoy using it!

I have been following Anna Olsen for quite a while, watched all of the Sugar episodes (and reruns, and reruns of reruns), same with Bake with Anna Olsen, and Fresh with Anna Olsen, plus many other baking shows where she's a judge, and many, many more baking shows. I'm a fan of the craft, and I can say it all started with her. I'm not a big baker, but I do love baking, and watching all of these shows, I did learn a lot of things. The first part of this book is a great compendium of all of these things, a great reference to go back to when you don't remember, or to get your baking journey started! The second part compiles recipes all more mouthwatering than the next, from the basics to the staples, all of them including interesting notes and tips. And the pictures are absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait to get baking!
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Anna Olson has always been my go-to when it comes to baking, and this book did not disappoint.

Using "Complete Guide" is 100% accurate as this book holds all the details needed to help you out while baking in the kitchen.

The first part of the book provides both new and seasoned bakers with answers to all questions they may have in the kitchen. Including 'how-to's', necessary baking tools, and even the best baking ingredients.

The next part of the book provides recipes that have been triple tested by Anna. And ends with a thorough glossary and index, and recipes have also been cross-referenced so you can find exactly what you need quickly.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for providing me with this ARC.

What a gorgeous, inspirational, information-loaded book! The photos are gorgeous, the descriptions clear, and there are so many tricks and bits of information for those who want to know those things. I loved the part where it explained how to create fattier butter at home (for making croissants in Canada) and all the little special bits like that. I've always loved her shows, so it was really nice to see that her friendly, kind personality came through in the book. So many yummy things to try. MMMMM

Five delicious and informative stars…

Where has this book been all my life? I’ve always loved baking – much more than cooking I’m afraid - and this book answered so many questions I didn’t even know I had on the subject. If you’ve watched the author’s baking shows you will recognize the warmth and easy style she has while she shares so many practical tidbits. There are recipes of course – so many I want to dive in and try – yet what sets this apart is the all-rounded information provided that, together, can make a dessert. Or, in their absence, break it…

What type of flour should you use? How should you store it? Measurement conversions and what you might not know about substitutions and their consequences. If you are struggling with gluten, or the replacement of it, you are covered. Do you need every gadget created for the kitchen? Turns out you don’t – instead providing an ‘essentials’ tool kit and some very specific items you need and when you will want them. What happens when you mistake – is there any going back? In fact, there is and I’ve marked these pages. I know I will be looking for them in the future. The list goes on and on and I am thrilled with the practicality of it. So many nuances that even the most detailed recipe doesn’t explain, it feels like having Anna right there, guiding me along…

And don’t worry, there are plenty of recipes to try with pictures just tempting me to try them all right now! I read this book in digital format but I know this will be one I buy in print. I will want this at my fingertips each time I haul the baking pans out. I would highly recommend for the beginner – or seasoned – baker. For anyone hauling those baking pans out!

If you wanted something that really teaches you the ins and outs of the baking world, all the little tips and tricks from a well known pro, you might just want to check this book out next.

Along with detailed writing about what you should and shouldn’t do, it has a ton of lovely and delicious looking recipes to try out on your loved ones. They’re easy to follow, well planned out, and I can’t wait to try out all the ones I’ve saved. A few I picked out were; roasted white chocolate and pumpkin pie, hot cross muffins, and creamsicle cake, along with many more. A welcome addition to my cook books, and long, long list of recipes to try out.

Anna Olsen's Baking Wisdom is far more than another cookbook. In today's world, we need to fix mistakes instead of having to buy the ingredients again and start from scratch. Anna teaches us how to fix the most common mistakes in baking. There's even a troubleshoot section to help figure out the mistake first.

Then there are some delicious recipes to try out. If you have a sweet tooth, this is for you.
