Leans heavily on the established tabletop RPG/video game lore. Enjoyed the little Easter egg references to the established lore. Overall it is an engaging heist story. There is an element of intrigue that enters into the second act which I wish has been more fully fleshed out, as the development of that plot line seems kind of rushed toward the end. There were hints about it in the first act when I looked back, but I would have liked to see that plot line take a more central part in the overall story.

I have a confession to make: I have never played this game or know really anything of the franchise itself. I was just so curious--I needed to know what a novel set in this world could look like and honestly I had a pretty good time. The characters aren't greatly fleshed out and a lot of my understanding of the world came from Google and reddit, but I did have fun with this. The plot is a bit chaotic but the heist crew is interesting to read about, but it's nothing amazing. I found myself asking if this would have been picked up/published if it wasn't attached to Cyberpunk and, honestly? I don't think it would. It needs a lot of work, especially in the characters, but it's a fun idea. I could see this doing really well if the fans receive it well, but as someone with close to no knowledge of the world outside of the name "Cyberpunk" this was just an okay book.

I have two words for you: fan. Service.
I won't bother with a brief introduction to the novel. So we might as well get to the review.
This is one of those novels that benefit from being part of a major franchise. That's the reason I downloaded it, to be honest. The added value of having "Cyberpunk 2077" in the title makes the reader lose perspective about the story itself.
The characters are paper-thin, cliched versions of characters we've read a thousand times before. The struggling mother of an autistic kid who makes ends meet by working as a striper and also as some sort of corporate spy in her free time. Because, as a stripper, she wouldn't have the needed skills to pull off a dubious heist. The skilled-albeit alcoholic-surgeon who needs new gear to perform better at his job. The teenage hacker who needs money to go to the university and get out of his annoying mother's house. The guy in a dead-end job who's up to his chin in debt. The corporate woman who needs excitement in her life. And last but not least: the idiot with delusions of grandeur who will get them all in trouble more than once. Let's not forget the bad guys: corporate goons, mafia goons, constantly blending amongst themselves in both intention and personality.
As far as the story goes, it's interesting but by no means great. Take the brand away, and you're left with a futuristic caper lost in a pail of similarly written stories.
If you're a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, by all means, go for it. If you're not...well, there's no point, is there?
Thank you for the advanced copy!

Arc Copy...only slightly familiar with the world of Cyberpunk 2077, so I was expecting a decent high stakes cyberpunk narrative flair with twists and intrigue abound. I'm happy to say I got it yet curious what absolute fans of the series would think?

So I don't read a lot of sci-fi but I watched the cyberpunk series on Netflix so I thought I'd give this book a try and let me say it is badass from start to finish. It's everything the series was and more, new characters, same world same crazy antics lots of action and big guns and Crazy heists, kind of makes you want to play the video game five star book from me just kick ass

I thank Netgalley and Orbit with allowing me to read this ARC.
I loved Cyberpunk and playing around in Night City. It was one of my favorite games in a long time. I was excited to see that there were books and comics based in Night City even if a little skeptical in how the game could translate to book.
This book is not for a casual reader. There are language, background, and world building that if you hadn't played the game or watched the anime you would be somewhat lost. There is no explanation given for the gangs or locations or language used so can be confusing. The story goes from 0 to 100 from the get go much like the game itself.
The multi-POV was a little much for me. They changed rapidly and sometimes it could be hard to tell who were reading about at first. Each character though was unique and their personalities shown through the writing. The plot has twists and turns that felt right out the game itself. Reading this novel was just like playing the game all over again.
I give this a 4 out of 5 stars. It was fast paced and a fun read. I recommend this for anyone who loved the game or the anime. I will definitely be buying a copy of this when it comes out.

Thank you Net Galley and Orbit Books for this opportunity to read rate and review this arc which is available Aug 8,2023!
This is a case of you need to know the video game before reading this book. Was it good? Yeah. Was it worth the three weeks it took to read it and asking my husband who is a gamer wtf is even going on? No.

If you enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077 or Edgerunners, then read this book! You should also read this if you're looking for an amazing SciFi/cyberpunk novel with heists and action!
I loved playing Cyberpunk 2077 and I loved reading this book. It was such a wild ride from start to finish. Definitely the best videogame book I've ever read and one of the best books I've read period, I loved it.
The multi-POV in the story is handled extremely well, each character was unique and had their own problems and personalities, it almost never was a question of who the story was focusing on. So much happening at once but it was perfect for the type of story and the world it takes place in.
I did not anticipate the twists that happened, the ending was out of left field, honestly. The novel hit a point where everything seemed to spiral (as everything seems to in Cyberpunk and Night City) and I loved it, it kept me wrapped up and I couldn't step away.
I was a little skeptical because I wasn't sure how the game would translate into a novel. Cyberpunk takes place in a world that can only be described as overwhelming. I will admit that you need to have some knowledge about the world this book takes place in, whether it be from the anime or the game. There wasn't a lot of background information for the world but I was okay with that since I've played the game and understand the different communities in Night City and the gangs within them. Unfortunately I believe someone with 0 knowledge of the game or lore will get confused by a few things. The novel is, of course, written in the world of the game and references places, gangs, and a few important people you come across while playing. This is perfect for those who have played the game and enjoyed it.
Overall, I can't praise it enough. I loved the book and will definitely be buying a physical copy. Thank you so much to Orbit for allowing me to read this. It was, and is, one of my most anticipated releases since I found out about it.
