I’m sorry to the author but this a hard no, I did not like the main character and reading 100+ chapters that felt like run on sentences and a childish girl talk about smoking pot day in and day out is a bore. I marked this a DNF as I couldn’t stand to read another page of this it was so boring and I would not label this a mystery or a thriller.

Such a refreshingly original story line with great characters and a ton of suspense! I was flying through the pages to find out what was going on. Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. The main character, Petal, was somewhat of an unreliable narrator. The book within a book style of writing was interesting and a different take on an already done story. It kept me guessing until the end. Well done!

Petal Woznewski lives a quiet, introverted life in New York. She has an okay job, and a “friend with benefits” relationship with a guy she tries to stay distanced from emotionally. One day her boy friend shows her a book he picked up in a waiting room, dedicated to her by name. It says, “I know what you did, Petal Woznewski. And now everyone else will, too.”
Petal knows that it has to be referencing something that happened thirty years ago, in Madison, Wisconsin, where Petal lived at the time. She and two of her friends went into the woods, but only two came out. Petal has to find answers to thoughts and feelings she has kept buried.
I really liked the description of this book, and really got invested in Petal’s story. It started out as gripping from the first chapter. I couldn’t stop reading, wanting to read about clues to Petal’s experiences. This is a great debut novel. I received an advanced reader’s copy for an honest review. Five stars.

This book follows a woman who discovers that a book was written about a murder that involved her and two of her friends in high school. The two friends have aliases as names but the author used Petal’s real name. The author also used a fake name so no one would know who wrote it.. We follow along with Petal to try and figure out who wrote the book and why.

I will say this book was a fun read but it was a bit predictable. I was really hoping the author was going to be someone so shocking and that my jaw would hit the floor but I kind of guessed who wrote the book and why pretty earlier on in the story. This book was fast pace and I think anyone who likes murder mysteries would love this.

My only complaints is that it was predictable and that I wish it had more details and more backstory. Other than that it was a good read.

I just finished reading this book and wow i don’t know what to say really.

At the begging i wasn’t liking this book that much but i kept reading because i love thrillers and mysteries and i thought it would be better, but it didn’t happen.

I was bored the whole time and I didn’t like the writing. Obviously it’s my opinion and I know they are people who thought the opposite, which is completely acceptable.

The characters were meh, i liked the main character but i didn’t love her.

I think this wasn’t the book for me but it can be for someone else! please read it if you’re interested :)

This story was very original and well done. A seemingly anonymous women in NYC is thrust into a social media nightmare after her very uncommon name is found in a supposedly fictional novel about a teenager's "accidental" death in a Wisconsin suburb. We are swept along with Petal as she tries to figure out who is the mysterious author of this book. Everyone is a suspect as old secrets are revealed and friends may actually be enemies. I was not able to determine the culprit right until the reveal at the end. This is one of those books I stayed up late to finish and I hope to read more from this author.

At first, I couldn't get into this book.
The main character finds her life story in a book.
More precisely, the story of a certain death that occurred when she was 14 years old. At the end of this book was a sentence written directly for her.
What happened 30 years ago?
I don't know why, but I haven't really enjoyed the novel.
We didn't like each other.
Halfway through the book, I wanted to put it down.
The second part of "I know what you did" was a bit better.
More was happening, and the action gained momentum.
I had my type of whom the author of the book be.
The author surprised me on this one.

Really weird twist 2/3 and gave it an extra kick – don’t worry I’m not spoiling here. Fun and original debut Indie thriller from Crooked Lane, which is now becoming one of my favorite publishers I discovered through Netgalley, about a girl from the city heading home to investigate some high school murder weirdness. Take my word and pick it up!

Petal Wosnewski is a bit of a loner. Most of her time is spent trying to forget her past growing up in Wisconsin and exist in the present in New York City. She is knocked off course by the sudden thunderous arrival of the new bestselling novel which not only bears striking similarities to her traumatic adolescence back in Madison, but also has a protagonist who shares her exact name. This sets Petal/Petta off on a madcap adventure from NYC to Wisconsin to try and find out who is digging up Petal's darkest secret. Could it be the person she swore to take that secret to the grave with...or someone more unexpected?
As a debut I was really thrilled by this work! Osborne's narrative style was engaging and I loved the atmosphere she created throughout. I appreciated that she was able to keep a tight cast of characters for the whole time, mainly focusing on Petal overall. My only criticism of Petal as a character is that I wish we perhaps could have received a bit more about her parents history. The fact that we felt the same kind of ambiguous desperation at the loss of Petal's parents though from NOT knowing these details do further entrench us in Petal's thoughts, which I appreciate. I loved the structure of the chapters being around 2/3 the main narrative, 1/3 excerpts from the book-within-the-book.
Overall I would heartily recommend this to my friends who love the thriller genre, and look forward to reading more from Caycee!

I loved the plot of this book and was immediately intrigued. However, I thought it got weighed down with details, inner dialogue and I did not like the main character at all. It was just an ok thriller for me...interesting but not page turning.

What would you do if someday out of the blue, you came across a book that accused you of a murder, an forgettable tragic trauma of your childhood, and to the horrors used your real name in the book?

first of all the plot of the book was amazing *chef's kiss. Honestly when I first saw the synopsis of the book my mind was blown. To me the premise was such an unique setting, I really had very very high hopes from this one. This one has high potential that could have been explored but nevertheless this was an amazing read.

Talking about the characters, I did not like the main character, I understand also wanted to main character to be an introvert but she was more for rude selfish person to me. characters love interest was so lovable. from the very start, I loved his character.

overall this was a medium paced thriller, with a very unique setting, writing style was pretty easy to understand, a few of the characters were lovable.
I liked reading this book, but I can yes this wasn't one of my favourite but I am still looking forward to read more titles by the same author.

The characters were real and believable; the plot was intriguing; the level of suspense moved the book along quite well. The protagonist was an independent woman living in New York City. She had high ideas about that level of autonomy and worked at maintaining them. When she accidentally discovers a book with her unusual name as one of the characters, she reluctantly sets out on a mission to determine the source.

Wow.
I did not intend to finish this in one sitting-- which I did. I wasn't even in a thriller type of mood (or so I thought) but was too lazy to go grab a book off of the bookshelf, and grabbed my kindle instead.
This is the very rare instance my bout of laziness paid off because THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD.

I am surprised by it but I shouldn't be. When we start out with Petal, I thought 'another my life is crap and so I am crap' character, joy. But I actually loved Petal and her voice, and it only took the first chapter to convince me of that.

The voice and tone of the entire book was phenomenal, the story was intriguing and I truly didn't guess the ending/suspect/conclusion, which is pretty rare. After you've read so many thriller/mystery novels, you start to catch on. So this was a treat.

Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC. This book was ok. It was a little hard to get through in all honesty. The overall story was interesting but it just didn’t fully deliver for me. I just felt like there was a lot of inner dialogue and descriptions the story did not need.

Here is Petal minding her business in her small NYC apt. She lived a private life but all that will change after a new thriller book comes out mentioning her name as a suspect to her friend’s death. Was a fun read but a bit predictable (only because I read a ton of thrillers). Not the fastest pace read as I hoped, but not a slow one either.
The cover was mysterious and gave me creepy vibes for sure. I enjoyed it, thank you Netgalley for an ARC copy.

This boom threw me for a loop but in a good way! If you love thrillers that have you guessing until the end then this book is for you!

Petta is a totally relatable character and you truly get a feel for how the events in her childhood and teen years impacted her as an adult. When a bestselling book has her name all over it including a cryptic dedication... she has to revisit the past. That is where the twists and curves begin.

Now, I normally am not a fan of how the book keeps going from the actual book in one chapter to the fictional book in another but it keeps you on your toes! Definitely the bet thriller of 2023!

This book was...okay. The story itself was compelling, and I liked everyone we encountered form the past, but I just can't deal with our main character here. I don't need to know that she packed her pipe. I don't need to know what junk food she bought. I don't need to know she had Dorito dust on her fingers. She did not have any traits beyond her fashion (multiple mentions of her Docs) and how much junk food she eats. That took up far too much of the book and took me out of the story, hard. The ending was fine, the idea of someone blackmailing someone through a book was interesting if unbelievable. It just...wasn't for me.
