This is a netgalley arc i recieved that I'm obviously late again on reviewing but alas.
Power was out again which lead me to get through this. It was very charming. supernatural elements, friendship, life, all discussed in a little 222 page book. This was entertaining to say the least. adored june<3

This is a great book, one of those books that makes you happy as you were attracted by the blurb and the story matched your expectations.
Great plotting and character development, excellent storytelling.
I want to read other books by this author.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

Thank you, Supposed Crimes, Acquitted Books, for allowing me to read What Everyone Deserves early.

Historical fiction with a fantasy twist? Yes please!

I really enjoyed this book for the most part, I am giving it a solid 4 stars. It's a quick read (finished reading it in a day!!!) with likable characters and a good blend of actual history. Even though there is some slow burn romance in it, for me it was mostly a book about friendship and acceptance; self-awareness and growing as an individual. In my eyes it also provides a new POV on tolerance and discrimination, seeing as it is gay historical fiction where vampires, witches and blue fertility demons roam the streets of New York in the 1950s. Speaking of the setting, I loved the worldbuilding, the magical realism where supernatural/fantasy elements just seamlessly blended in with the human world.
As for the characters, I adore June and cared for him deeply during the story - half the time wanting to give him a hug and the other half to water his plants and cuddle with Gordon as he makes me breakfast. On the other hand, I struggled to like James Kelly's character and found it difficult to relate to him at times. The ending contains a very hopeful note, however I also felt it was rushed. Their relationship needs more time to develop but overall, it was a great read!
I would like to thank the author for gifting me an ecopy of this wonderful LGBT read! I would definitely check out any future Dan Ackerman works.
