A updated Little Women with the twist of my sister's best friend trope and forced proximity. This one just fell flat - I didn't like either of the main characters. They were awkward - from their personalities to their relationship.

This story just felt flat and lacking. Didn’t love the characters and the romance felt unbelievable.

not my favorite, at all. I feel like the pacing was off, the plot was lacking, the romance wasn’t up to my expectations, and it didn’t give me enough to be an enjoyable Little Women retelling from my point of view. this was very forgettable to me (which is exactly why I forgot to finally give my feedback for this book until now).

I loved the idea of this book however I liked Blame it on the Brontes better. This one was cute and pretty well thought out. While it did have the miscommunication trope which is my least favorite it was done a bit differently. Amy thought that "after all this time" there had actually been some romance between her sister Jo and her childhood bestfriend turned boyfriend Theo. She thought this because her sister wrote a story for the New Yorker which she said was based on a true story and Amy understandably felt betrayed and jealous. I'm also not a fan of the "we're trying for a baby" trope. It is really weird to me that this something people share with each other and I don't like it in my books either. Athena and Thorn could have just been wildly in love and enjoying spicy all the time without adding the baby part. I will not be reviewing this on social media because I don't have very many posistive things to say about it and don't want to crush the author.

I loved this book. I have enjoyed this beautiful love story and how these characters finally got their happily ever after. I hope this author gives us more from this world.

a lot of this book felt...well, lifeless to me. I appreciate a good slow burn, but this wasn’t it. Having the MCs date other people is always hit or miss for me. It was slow and I didnt really enjoy it.

After reading Blame It on the Brontes, I knew I’d read anything Annie Sereno wrote so jumped on the chance to read the next book in her classic literature-inspired series. While this didn’t come with the page-burning heat that Athena and Thorne’s second-chance romance generated, this more gentle friends-to-lovers romance between Amy and Theo is still a great read, especially with the secrets they both keep from each other. Hoping there is another book in the series coming soon!

Very interesting read! The book pulled me in from the start and I wanted to see how it ended. Try it and see if this book is for you!

So, I'm a huge fan of "Little Women," and I totally ship Amy and Laurie. But man, this book just didn't do it for me. The pacing was all over the place—like, it took forever to actually get to the story, and even when it did, it didn't really go anywhere. And then bam! The big reveal, which I saw coming a mile away, hits you 90% into the book and gets wrapped up way too quickly.

Honestly, the whole thing felt kinda lifeless. I just couldn't get into Amy and Theo; there was zero chemistry. Their first on-page kiss left me feeling nothing, and don't even get me started on their so-called "sex scene" – it was just bad. I couldn't buy into their relationship, so everything felt pretty dull.

Plus, they read way younger than they're supposed to be. I kept forgetting they're in their mid-30s (Amy is 34) because they act so much younger. It would've made more sense if they were in their mid or even late 20s.

No. Sorry, but no.

I’ve never actually read Little Women, and the barrier to entry always feels a little high, so I figured this might be a good place to start. I wish there were more interactions between Amy and Jo because I really thought that the sister dynamic would play more of an influential role in the novel. Theo was fine, but somewhat forgettable. It took me over a week to finally finish the book, and despite not having thought about it for days, I didn’t care enough to go back and review what had already happened.
.
The couple I really loved was Athena and Thorne, so hearing that there is a novel that details their story means I won’t give up on this author just yet, but going to work through more of my TBR before I tackle it. It’s always nice to step out of my comfort zone, even if it doesn’t always work.

In this modern retelling of Little Women, Amy has been in a string of disastrous relationships. In a series of events that neither expected, Amy ends up living in the same house as her sister Jo's best friend, Theo. Theo and Amy had once before almost ended up together, but they stopped before they made a mistake. Now they're in a will-they-won't-they situation while working through their estrangement with Jo. It's a new and interesting perspective on Little Women.

Thank you so much to Forever and Netgalley for letting me read an eARC of Leave It to the March Sisters! This book came out back in late May and I definitely read it back then, but I’m finally getting around to reviewing it now!
Leave It to the March Sisters 4/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads: This modern take on Little Women features “Bronte brooding and rom-com banter”—a classic romance with a contemporary twist (Jenny Holiday, USA Today bestselling author).
When it comes to disastrous relationships, English professor Amy Marsden has pretty much seen everything . From Banana Brad (who had a thing for fruit costumes) to her latest disappointment, Derek (undiscovered artist with a penchant for tighty-whities and their perky pizza delivery driver), it’s been an endless adventure of oddballs, jerks, and some terrible lapses in judgment. Which is exactly how Amy has ended up living in a house with the guy she’s been half in love with since she was a kid....
Theo Sinclair has been her sister Jo’s best friend—and a commitment phobe—for as long as Amy can remember. And aside from one hot and heavy make-out session, she’s managed to ignore her feelings for Theo and successfully avoid adding another entry in her What-was-I-thinking list. Yet now that they’re living under the same roof, Amy and Theo are sharing everything from Cheetos and smoothies to their family drama, past trauma, and an attraction that Amy begins to think might not be one-sided. Could Theo really have feelings for her—or is Amy just setting herself up for another disaster?
I was never a big Little Women fan, so I don’t have that background to impact my feelings on this book, which is definitely a benefit, because it was a clean slate for me (minus, you know, me already being a fan of the setting and side characters because of Blame it on the Brontes which is set in the same place with the same characters). Amy and Theo were interesting characters to me, in that they had a lot of history with each other and I couldn’t really tell if I actually liked them or not. I thought that Amy’s relationship with Jo was rough, but it was admirable that they were both still trying- I mean if I had grown up how they had, I’m sure relationships would be hard for me to. There was just so much unresolved trauma between the three of them that impacted every single relationship that they had in their lives that made reading the book a little sad, but I also couldn’t stop reading the book. All of the parts that dealt with Amy not painting anymore because of what happened last time she painted portraits were sad for sure. I definitely enjoyed seeing Athena and Thorne again though and they were highlights for me. Overall, I think Leave It to the March Sisters was a good read, but be prepared for it to not be a light, fun read.

A modern take on Little Women, this just felt lacking and and did not live up to my expectations. I found the book to be too self aware and if you’re going to take on a classic such as Little Women it has to be done with care.

What I liked about this book was the connection it had to Little Women and to the classics in general. I am a huge Little Woman fan and I was so looking forward to reading this story. It's not a retelling, but it is a loving tribute to the classic. However, it fell slightly short and seemed much too long with sections that dragged on. I do recommend this story though, especially to those who love Jo, Amy, Meg, and Beth.

Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Leave it to the March Sisters is a very self-aware, modern take on Little Women. When English Professor Amy is unexpectedly dumped, she has to find a new place to live. She finds an apartment where she would have the second floor to herself with just a shared kitchen and immediately signs on for a year lease. However, after a few days she realizes the landlord is no other than Theo Sinclair, her childhood best friend and love of her life. They have not been in contact due to their own fight, and its even more exacerbated by the mysterious falling out between Theo and Amy's sister, Jo.

This slow-burn friends, to enemies, to lovers was very cute! I found the secrets and miscommunication frustrating and slightly over done at times, but I still really enjoyed!

Overall I would give this 3.5 stars.

I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.

Little Women is my favourite book from my childhood, and so I was intrigued to read this romantic take on the Louisa May Alcott classic. I really enjoyed Amy’s character, and that says something about the writing as she is my least favourite March sister from the original book. Becoming roommates brings their relationship to a different level, and despite Theo’s penchant for a lack of commitment, these two childhood neighbours end up as much more than simply neighbours, roommates or friends.

I've never read Little Women and now I definitely won't lol The writing seemed to be all over the place for me and the plot was weird. I think things were thrown into the book that didn't need to be, making it slow.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC

I expected more from this book, but I couldn't care less about the protagonists, they didn't cause any kind of sympathy from me. Boring
