Princess Fuzzypants here: How could a kitty not love a book about a secret agent kitty whose two partners are adorable dogs. There are assorted other animals in the very imaginative world of duplicity and tricks. The villain, half bat half fox, could twirl a moustache with the best of them. There is a spider for a hench woman. It would fit in with the world of James Bond set at the end of an English garden. There is a ton of potential in the concept but I felt there could have been a bit more depth to the characters. As it is, it is a quick romp where the FoxBat is going to take over the world by hypnotizing all the birds. He is thwarted by our daring trio but escapes to plot another day.

Perhaps the future stories will give us more backstory about the super heroes. I think it could be fun to find out who they are and how they got together. Four purrs and one paw up.

This early chapter book tells an interesting story about some super spies. It is the length of an average early chapter book but is not separated into chapters. There are quite a few words on a page, but they are well spaced and not intimidating. There is a bit of bold text that I wasn't sure what purpose it served, but other than that it is all one font. There are simple black and white illustrations throughout which may help some readers to follow the story. I think that some readers will be very into this series and could see them enjoying this and other books to come. The book is aimed for 5-7 year olds, I would put it more in the 7/8/9 year old range, but younger readers could enjoy it with an adult reading. It would definitely be too daunting for an average 5 or 6 year old to read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to check this one out.

This isa cute children’s story that is accompanied by simple drawings to enhance the book.

The Sportons of Houndscastle had unique pets. By day, they are ordinary pets, but are great detectives by night. Paddy, the cat, is the leader, while the older dog Jim, procured gadgets. The final dog, Casper, still a pup, is in training.

The trio works for Whisker and Feather, a secret agency comprised of animal and bird agents. They have been summoned because agent Gold Feather, a wise owl, has been taken. The culprit, Professor Fox-Bat, has been taking many birds to hypnotize to do his bidding. The government enlists Whisker and Feather to rescue the birds. However, Paddy is captured! What will Jim and Casper do?
