<3 This audiobook was only a little over 2 hours but it was amazing! Mr. Pinkney transitioned while he was working on his memoir. His wife and son who narrated this audio, created this with what he was able to accomplish. It was a little sad but was so personal and inspiring. The synergy of conspiring events brought forth through the universe to bring the world a Black child with learning disabilities to utilize his artistic gifts that are now in so many books and in museums--the art he once sold for a nickel during his paper route...all of this left me warm and fuzzy at the conclusion. Its a great memoir for the entire family.

“Just Jerry” is a children’s autobiography of Jerry Pinkney. Mr. Pinkney, who passed away in 2021, was a prolific illustrator of many children’s books as well as an artist. He tells his story of challenges he’s faced in becoming an artist due to dyslexia and racism. This is a great book for youth interested in art, illustrating, and learning about overcoming obstacles to follow artistic passions. Thank you to Net Galley for providing this title.

Fascinating read about the illustrator's life. Very interesting how he had dyslexia but wasn't diagnosed until later. He used pictures and illustrations to communicate his ideas - and he did it so well!
