Although I thought this book started off a bit slow (but not too slow) once I got going I found it a most enthralling read. Mostly it was the story of Adele, her life working as the assistant to Coco Chanel but more so about her own life from the orphanage to getting her job with Chanel and then onto the war, dealing with the Nazi's, with not knowing who to trust and about her friendship/relationship with Dr Dixon.

This is a fascinating story and I found Adele to be a person/character you could relate to, you could understand the choices she had to make, the feelings of honesty and loyalty. This is her story.

But having said that there is a small dual-timeline which intersperse with Chloe and her journey to find out more about her grandmother, who she adores, and how her life was during wartime and her life as Coco Chanel's assistant as her grandmother has never shared her stories of this time with her.

This is a great book and so well written. The further I read the more I wanted to read and in the end I just couldn't put it down until I finished it. I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend.

Wow what a story I had no idea about Coco Chanel I found it fascinating and hard to put down, it was certainly an eye opener.
The Dressmaker’s Secret is a story about deception, love, survival and endurance during the hardest times in Paris through WW2. I thought the dual timeline worked well together including the romance on both. I absolutely loved the ending.
This is my second book by Lorna Cook, she is becoming one of my favourite authors. Can’t wait to read more of her books.

The Dressmaker’s Secret by Lorna Cook is an intriguing story with a dual timeframe - Adele is in war torn and Nazi occupied Paris during WW2 and Chloe, Adele’s granddaughter, divorced and seeking a fresh start by moving to Paris in 2018 but also to find out more about her grandmother who worked for Coco Chanel with suggestions of her being a collaborator with the Nazis.

I found the historical perspective interesting and enlightening as the story of Chanel is based on what actually took place with a lot of complex questions about whether she was just a survivor or an active collaborator. The story was easy to follow and kept me interested.

All the characters are believable and really bought the story alive. Loved the Paris location. Loved the interpersonal relationships between the characters.

An enjoyable read that I would recommend.

I could not put this book down!

It has everything in it that you would want in gripping book from tears to laughter, hope and passion to sadness and horror. The non-fiction parts of this book only adds to the storyline and creatures a powerful vision of the daily life during a horrific time in history.

The ending was amazing and I could not help but smile.

A wonderful read ... Thank you Lorna Cook!!
