First Kiss by Mocha Von Bee is the first book in the Kit and Tully series. It follows Tully around his new town where he gets a job in a video shop before quickly making new friends with three of the local teenagers. Their friendship gets increasingly strong, particularly with Kit as they listen to their favourite band live. After spending lots of time over the summer together, Tully manages to persuade Kit's parents to let her go to a concert where she makes Tully do something he likely would not have previously done and where they share their first kiss.

This book marks a great start to this romance series and I found it a very gripping book, I very much look forward to reading the second book in the series. It is also good to see a new romance book which is set in the 1990s in Ireland. This for a modern-day teenage audience is a real eye-opener on what life was like without mobile phones and this is one theme I picked up throughout the book. This book teaches there are positives to having mobile phones such as being able to let your parents know where you are and contact your friends but also negatives as it stops you from being able to spend time with your friends in person. This book shows what friendships were like before the modern day of technology which is really good to present to a modern-day young adult audience.

I cannot say there was anything about this book which I did not like. I very much look forward to continuing to follow Kit and Tully's adventures and I only hope their relationship will get deeper.

Altogether, I rate this book 4 stars as this is a good book for teenagers set in a time before technology but still a time full of fun, excitement and adventures. The romance elements of this book are nicely balanced out by following a group of teenage friends on a number of exciting adventures and I would definitely recommend this book. I would like to thank Net Galley and Indie Ink for providing me with an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book in return for an honest book review.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I this book is super short (I finished it in one day) and it's a cute story. I loved the video store nostalgia and how the characters interacted with each other. When Tully meets Kit it's love at first sight, but she's into someone else. As the story unfolds you can't help but fall for these characters and their story. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a short romance. I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this ARC completely blind and requested it on the cover alone.

Um. The cover misled me. I read this and still have no real idea what the heck it's even about. LOL. Basically this is the gist I got from reading this: Tully works in a video store and is new in town. Aonghus is like a Celtic god of some sort. Kit is the love interest and Tully is instantly enamored with her from page one.

Basically... nothing happened in this book. And even though it was short, I felt as though my time was slightly wasted. Sigh.

Dang cute covers tricked me again.

2/5 stars! This was a cute, quick read. My issue was that it felt like two different stories were trying to be told concurrently and rather than ever coming together, it acted as a distraction. The character Tully was pretty unlikeable, although I can't tell if this was intentional by the author or not. I intend on reading the next book to see if this improves.

I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

I was quite excited to read First Kiss as the cover looked super cute and I thought it would be a fun, quick read. Well, it was quick. Not so much fun.

Tully is a bit of a douchebag, to put it nicely. I don’t care that he helped Spike after he was attacked, he isn’t a likeable character. The thing that really got me was him saying Kit “doesn’t strike him as an academic” and thinking she doesn’t know how lucky she is when he finds out she’s being forced into studying law by her parents.

He’s also very rude and a bit misogynistic. He thinks Kit’s mom looks more like her granny and is older-looking than her husband despite them being the same age. This really bugged me. I get he’s a teenager and he’s supposed to have flaws but he’s like 19 so there’s not much of an excuse really. There’s a difference between flaws and common decency.

The writing style is very juvenile. There was a lot of “this happened, then this happened” going on. But then there are other moments where the writing was pretty decent. I’m assuming this is a debut so the author hasn’t quite found their voice yet, so honestly no hate. It’s mostly personal opinion and preference, a lot of people will enjoy this style of writing. It’s very easy to read.

There is so much repetition of information that just isn’t needed. I understood that the band has no money the first time you told me, it doesn’t need to be repeated multiple times in one chapter. This is probably mentioned about eight times in First Kiss and the book isn’t very long so it gets taxing after a while.

The synopsis made this sound way more exciting than it was. Which is incredibly savage to say, but entirely true. I thought it was going to take a fantasy-style turn with the mentioning of a Celtic god, but no. It’s only talked about in reference and never actually makes an appearance.

I hate to give such a negative review, but First Kiss really was not for me. Potentially this isn’t targeted at me and is meant for a younger audience. I don’t know. The best part about this book was the nostalgia of the video rental store, but unfortunately, that was it for me.

I couldn’t truly connect with this story!

Tully is a good guy trying to get used to the new town and his new job! He meets Kit and he’s instantly attracted to her but he’s aware he doesn’t have a chance because she is half in love with a musician staying in town!

Honestly the romance part of the sort was ok but the added Celtic folklore was kind of complicated! I feel like it wasn’t introduced properly! I would have liked it if it would have been introduced in the prologue as an old story!

"First Kiss (Kit and Tully, #1" is a mysterious, fun, and interesting read by Mocha VonBee. I really liked the 1990s small town Irish setting. Getting to know the characters was so much fun! The author has done great work creating characters that feel three dimensional and like real people all within a story that is under 200 pages. It was interesting to see how the characters interact with each other and their families and to see the difficulties and challenges they are all dealing with. Tully's video store workplace was fun to read about! It was very nice to see how much Tully cares about his mother and how he is such a hardworking and kind person. Although Kit seems at times to be aloof and a bit frosty towards Tully we get to know her better throughout the book and see that she is a likeable character. It was great to see the close friendship between Kit, Felice, and Spike and to see Tully becoming a part of their friend group. I liked the speed of the plot and the author's writing style. This is a story about friendship, love, conflict, music, and Celtic mythology. I highly recommend reading this book! I have signed up for the author's newsletter and am enjoying reading "First Summer" which is Kit's version of the story. I am really looking forward to the upcoming books in this series. Thank you very much to the author Mocha VonBee, the publisher Indie Ink, and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy to read and review honestly.

This story played out in my head like a sweet indie flick as I was reading it. It’s written from the perspective of Tully, whom is an introverted and likeable character. He is new to town and meets some eclectic personalities, including a love interest, Kit, but it looks like she might keep him in the friend-zone. I was expecting a story that was geared toward young people and found that it’s likely to be enjoyed by all ages.

Cute, spicy, intriguing and a great time! Great book to spend your time with and interesting plot. The cover is also stunning!

When Tully meets Kit, he instantly falls in love with her. However it isn't love at first sight for her as she is head over heels in love with Mac. I love when a story makes me fall in love with the characters and their story. This one did not disappoint.

I loved the plot and the premise of the book, it did not disappoint at all. I cannot wait to read what happens next. I will recommend this story to others.

3.5

Tully is new to the area and gets a job at the local video store. It's here that he meets Kit, then Spike, and finally Felice; all of whom are already great friends. Tully begins to hang out with them and they introduce him to their new favorite band, Black Death. Circumstances arise and Tully goes along for the ride.

I felt the book read a bit more like a middle-grade novel rather than a YA novel. I didn't really feel like there was much conflict in the book, but I think that's probably due to this book setting up the foundation for the next book. It ended with a series of potential prediction questions to help you think about what might happen next, and the only way to find out it to tune into the next book. It was a quick and easy read, minimal conflict, a new friend group, music, Irish folklore, and a sense of trying to figure out what comes next.

I received this book as a free ARC on NetGalley for an honest opinion. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Mocha VonBee for providing me with this opportunity to read this book.

Kindly given a digital copy from Netgalley for an honest review

This was a sweet short story about two kids in Ireland and their love of music. Tully has just moved to a small town in Ireland and is balancing working to support his family with finding new friends leading him to filling in for a member of an up-and-coming band.

I think for the next book I would really like to see more of Kit’s story and really develop their relationship.

First Kiss is the first book in the new Kit and Tully trilogy which will later become a nine book series starring the other characters in the other trilogy's. From Tully's point of view, set in Ireland in the 90's he's just moved to a new town and has found a job in the local video store. Through his job and kindness he meets and befriends Kit, Spike and Felice. Tully falls for Kit at first sight, however oblivious to this Kit has her eyes set on Mac the lead singer of a local band who just had a hit song. During this Kit and Tully have a run-in with a once a sleeping Celtic god. When he awakes they must choose love or music?

This was a really short, quick read and I liked reading a YA romance through a male perspective, it's unique and also the Celtic lore is something I've never really heard of before. It's nice seeing links to their actual location, local lore, and having a supernatural/mystical element. The only downside is I feel like the first three books (I assume) could just be made into one, First Kiss was a bit slow and seemed like it was a build-up to something without much actually occurring in the book. Apart from this it was a nice easy read and I really felt for Tully and his struggles and I am rooting for him and Kit - I just wish there was more to it.

I grabbed this one for the cute cover! I saw it was short and was probably going to be a light read. And I enjoyed it! The story is from Tully's POV and he's a pretty laid back guy. He's new to town and interested in making money at his new job and maybe finding some new friends. Imagine his surprise when a girl around his age stumbles in to the video store on his first shift and catches his eye.

It was cute. I loved the lore of the mound and the video store nostalgia was glorious! I even looked up the videos they were renting because I didn't recognize them and enjoyed some classic movie trailer!! It's cute, I liked both Kit and Tully, Spike (and the band although I could leave Mac!) and I look forward to reading more of their story.

As a side note, as soon as I was done with my kindle version, I went and signed up for the author's newsletter and got a free 1.5 book!! So if you read this one, don't miss the novella before book 2!

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

This book is so throwback to my teens! And that helped me sink into the story. I loved it being from the males perspective! I can't wait to read what happens next.

The only fact that has caught my eye is that this book sets in the 1990s. I wasn't a 90s kid but I always curious how it feels to live in an old or ancient era. So I'm so glad to have the opportunity to read this book, thanks to the author and netgalley for this free copy.
This book was easy to get along, it didn't take me forever to understand the storyline. I believe that in 1990s the world was calm without this modern technology and I'm so glad I got this feeling while diving into this book 🙈. Only.. the main character is a guy which I feel he's just too naive, but it didn't change my mind about liking this book. There will be the sequel to this one and I'm just so excited to meet Tully and Kit in the next book!

Tully is new in Drimshanra and starts working at More Video 4U where he meets Kit. He's intrigued by Kit and gets closer to her after he helps Kit's friend Spike. Tully starts spending more time with Kit, Spike and Felice. As this happens he starts to associate with up and coming band Black Death and eventually becomes their guitarist. The Celtic god mystery is interesting along with his potentially budding romance with Kit.

Cute read about a boy that moves to a new city, tries to find a job, make friends and follow a dream he has. He falls for a girl that just doesn’t see him yet, follow his story on where his relationship with kit happens

Love or Music. Irish Folk-tale. Teens in 90s!.

What a way to start the series. The teens in 90s small-town vibe is so strong. Without revealing much, the characters are so interesting to get to know better. The Aonghus myth/folktale surrounding the town and the story is intriguing as we only see the glimpse of it. Totally give me the goosebumps and chills vibe when I read it. Excited to see the story from Kit's perspective and how the rest of the stories would unfold.
